What is the evidence that continuous/real-time feedback on your writing (as touted by folks who believe in AI feedback as a benefit) is actually helpful in improving as a writer? Continuous feedback on my writing is a sure way to f-up my writing. Thinking takes time.

The question I ask myself every time I'm exposed to a new piece of ed tech is whether or not this tool helps students "do school" or if it helps students "learn." The overwhelming majority, like 99%, are all about doing school.

I read a lot of very good short story collections, but this one, coming in a little over a month, is a cut above for me. Just a masterpiece both in terms of the individual stories and the additional pleasures of these specific stories collected together. bookshop.org/a/1793/…

I am by no means pro cell phones in class, but the idea that banning cell phones in class is going to lead to massive gains in student learning overestates how much learning happens in those 60 to 90 minutes vs. the rest of the day. It's a much deeper problem than phones.
