Abstract

A coin sorter of sorting mixed coins by de-nomination includes a rotatable disc (13), a drive motor (14) for rotating the disc, and a stationary sorting head (12) having a lower surface gener-ally parallel to the upper surface of the rotatable disc and spaced slightly therefrom. The lower sur-face of the sorting head forms a plurality of exit channels (40-45) for guiding coins of different de-nominations to different discharge stations around the periphery of the disc. A plurality of coin sensor/discriminators (S/D1,S/D2) are mounted in the stationary sorting head over the rotatable disc for discriminating between valid and invalid coins guided by said stationary sorting head. At least one coin sensor/discriminator is mounted in each of the plurality of exit channels.
