Abstract
The invention is a Roaming Solution network system (100), the system including a Roaming Server (116), a National Location Register (112), and an 800 number Remote Switching Unit (130). The system is integrated with a standard SS7 type telecommunications network and further coupled to an account based billing and call control platform that allows registered wireless credit limited subscribers to place and receive calls when roaming outside of their Home Provider's network. The invention verifies that the wireless subscriber's account balance is sufficient to place or receive the call, translates the account balance into talk minutes, and monitors the call for talk duration. The Roaming Solution network system is further operable such that if the wireless subscriber exceeds the available account balance, the system tears down the call in the first negative minute and immediately decrements the wireless subscriber's account. If the call is disconnected prior to the account balance being depleted, the invention immediately decrements the wireless subscriber's account and releases the trunks. This Roaming Solution network system is designed to mitigate a Home Provider's exposure to credit risk when providing roaming services to credit limited subscribers.
Claims (20)
1. A network Roaming Solution with registered call processing and account based billing and call control for credit limited wireless roaming subscribers comprising:
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving mobile switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as the serving switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center, the national location register further operably adapted to intercept messages from the home mobile switch and from the serving mobile switch and further adapted to process the messages for output to a roaming server operably adapted for real-time call control, call monitoring, and account based billing.
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving mobile switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as the serving switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center, the national location register further operably adapted to intercept messages from the home mobile switch and from the serving mobile switch and further adapted to process the messages for output to a roaming server operably adapted for real-time call control, call monitoring, and account based billing.
2. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 1, where the national location register is adapted to receive the registration notification message from the serving mobile switch and modify the registration notification message and further adapted to modify a registration notification return message identifying the NLR as the serving switch with respect to the home switch and as the home switch with respect to the serving switch.
3. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 1, where the national location register is adapted to set a termination restriction code to restrict termination at the serving mobile switch.
4. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 1, where the national location register is adapted to assign a 1-800 number unique to a roaming call for routing call originations through a call origination RSU.
5. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 1, where the national location register is adapted to request a TLDN from the serving mobile switch and enable call termination to the serving mobile switch.
6. A network Roaming Solution system with registered call processing and account based billing and call control for credit limited wireless roaming subscribers comprising:
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving mobile switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as a serving mobile switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center; and a roaming server communicably linked to the national location register, and the roaming server adapted to be communicably linked to a billing system remote switching unit of an account based billing system of the home mobile switch, for real-time call monitoring, call control, and account based billing of calls directed to the home switch for delivery to the roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch.
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving mobile switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as a serving mobile switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center; and a roaming server communicably linked to the national location register, and the roaming server adapted to be communicably linked to a billing system remote switching unit of an account based billing system of the home mobile switch, for real-time call monitoring, call control, and account based billing of calls directed to the home switch for delivery to the roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch.
7. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 6, where the national location register is adapted to request a TLDN from the serving mobile switch and enable call terminations to the serving mobile switch.
8. A network Roaming Solution system with registered call processing and account based billing and call control for credit limited wireless roaming subscribers comprising:
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving mobile switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as a serving mobile switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center;
a roaming server communicably linked to the national location register, and the roaming server adapted to be communicably linked to a billing system remote switching unit of an account based billing system of the home switch, for real time call monitoring, call control, and account based billing of calls originated by the wireless roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch; and a call origination RSU communicably linked to the roaming server and the call origination RSU operably adapted to be communicably linked to a Market Server of the account based billing system of the home switch and the call origination RSU
further operably adapted to be communicably linked to the serving mobile switch for processing wireless roaming subscriber call originations through the call origination RSU.
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving mobile switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as a serving mobile switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center;
a roaming server communicably linked to the national location register, and the roaming server adapted to be communicably linked to a billing system remote switching unit of an account based billing system of the home switch, for real time call monitoring, call control, and account based billing of calls originated by the wireless roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch; and a call origination RSU communicably linked to the roaming server and the call origination RSU operably adapted to be communicably linked to a Market Server of the account based billing system of the home switch and the call origination RSU
further operably adapted to be communicably linked to the serving mobile switch for processing wireless roaming subscriber call originations through the call origination RSU.
9. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 8, where the national location register is adapted to assign a 1-800 number unique to a roaming call for routing call originations through a call origination RSU.
10. A network Roaming Solution system with registered call processing and account based billing and call control for credit limited wireless roaming subscribers comprising:
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as a serving mobile switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center;
a roaming server communicably linked to the national location register, and the roaming server adapted to be communicably linked to a billing system remote switching unit of an account based billing system of the home mobile switch, for real time call monitoring, call control, and account based billing of calls originated by the wireless roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch and of calls directed to the home mobile switch for delivery to the roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch;
a call origination RSU communicably linked to the roaming server and the call origination RSU operably adapted to be communicably linked to a market server of the account based billing system of the home mobile switch and the call origination RSU further operably adapted to be communicably linked to the serving mobile switch for processing wireless roaming subscriber call originations through the call origination RSU.
a national location register insertable in a communication link between a home mobile switching center and a serving switching center, the national location register operable to communicate as a serving mobile switching center with the home mobile switching center and as a home mobile switching center with the serving mobile switching center;
a roaming server communicably linked to the national location register, and the roaming server adapted to be communicably linked to a billing system remote switching unit of an account based billing system of the home mobile switch, for real time call monitoring, call control, and account based billing of calls originated by the wireless roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch and of calls directed to the home mobile switch for delivery to the roaming subscriber at the serving mobile switch;
a call origination RSU communicably linked to the roaming server and the call origination RSU operably adapted to be communicably linked to a market server of the account based billing system of the home mobile switch and the call origination RSU further operably adapted to be communicably linked to the serving mobile switch for processing wireless roaming subscriber call originations through the call origination RSU.
11. The network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 10, where the Roaming Server is adapted to update and store location information for the roaming subscriber and further adapted to forward the location information to the Market Server.
12. A method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solutionfor registered account based wireless roaming subscribers comprising the steps of:
inserting a national location register in a communication link between a home mobile switch and a serving mobile switch where the national location register is operably adapted to communicate as a serving mobile switch with the home mobile switch and as a home mobile switch with the serving mobile switch;
intercepting messages from the home mobile switch and the serving switch with the national location register; and processing the messages with the national location register and communicating with the national location register to a roaming server for real-time call control, call monitoring and account based billing.
inserting a national location register in a communication link between a home mobile switch and a serving mobile switch where the national location register is operably adapted to communicate as a serving mobile switch with the home mobile switch and as a home mobile switch with the serving mobile switch;
intercepting messages from the home mobile switch and the serving switch with the national location register; and processing the messages with the national location register and communicating with the national location register to a roaming server for real-time call control, call monitoring and account based billing.
13. The method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 12 further comprising the step of modifying a registration notification message with the national location register and the step of modifying a registration notification return message identifying the NLR as the serving switch with respect to the home switch and as the home switch with respect to the serving switch.
14. The method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 12 further comprising the step of assigning a 1-800 number to a roaming call origination with the Roaming Server and sending the 1-800 number to the serving mobile switch for directing the roaming call origination to a call origination RSU.
15. The method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 12 further comprising the step of requesting a TLDN with the NLR from the serving mobile switch and enabling call termination with the serving mobile switch.
16. A method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution for registered account based wireless roaming subscribers comprising the steps of:
routing a call originated by a registered wireless account based roaming subscriber with a serving mobile switch to a call originating RSU according to a DNIS
received by the serving mobile switch during registration of the roaming subscriber;
prompting the roaming subscriber for the roaming subscriber's MIN and dialed digits with the call originating RSU and through the serving mobile switch;
querying a market server for call validation with the call originating RSU;
routing the call to its destination according to the dialed digits; and monitoring and controlling the call with the call originating RSU for account based billing.
routing a call originated by a registered wireless account based roaming subscriber with a serving mobile switch to a call originating RSU according to a DNIS
received by the serving mobile switch during registration of the roaming subscriber;
prompting the roaming subscriber for the roaming subscriber's MIN and dialed digits with the call originating RSU and through the serving mobile switch;
querying a market server for call validation with the call originating RSU;
routing the call to its destination according to the dialed digits; and monitoring and controlling the call with the call originating RSU for account based billing.
17. The method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 16 further comprising the step of assigning a 1-800 number to the call originated by the subscriber with the Roaming Server and sending the 1-800 number to the serving mobile switch for directing the call to a call origination RSU.
18. A method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution for registered account based wireless roaming subscribers comprising the steps of:
receiving a call from a registered wireless account based roaming subscriber at a serving mobile switch;
sending an origination request message to a national location register inserted in the communication link between the serving mobile switch and the roaming subscriber's home mobile switch;
forwarding the origination request message to a roaming server;
communicating with the roaming server a 1-800 number for a call origination RSU to the national location register;
communicating with the national location register the 1-800 number to the serving mobile switch;
routing the call through the serving mobile switch to the call origination RSU;
connecting the call through the RSU;
monitoring and controlling the call with the RSU which is operably adapted to communicate with the roaming server and the market server of an account based billing system.
receiving a call from a registered wireless account based roaming subscriber at a serving mobile switch;
sending an origination request message to a national location register inserted in the communication link between the serving mobile switch and the roaming subscriber's home mobile switch;
forwarding the origination request message to a roaming server;
communicating with the roaming server a 1-800 number for a call origination RSU to the national location register;
communicating with the national location register the 1-800 number to the serving mobile switch;
routing the call through the serving mobile switch to the call origination RSU;
connecting the call through the RSU;
monitoring and controlling the call with the RSU which is operably adapted to communicate with the roaming server and the market server of an account based billing system.
19. The method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution as recited in claim 18 further comprising the step of requesting a TLDN with the NLR from the serving mobile switch.and enabling call termination with the serving mobile switch.
20. A method of processing calls in a network Roaming Solution for registered account based wireless roaming subscribers comprising the steps of:
receiving a call directed to a registered wireless account based roaming subscriber at a home mobile switch;
requesting with a billing system RSU of an account based billing system a TLDN
from a roaming server;
communicating the request for a TLDN to a national location register which is communicably inserted in a communication link between the home mobile switch and a serving mobile switch;
requesting with the national location register the TLDN from the serving mobile switch;
communicating the TLDN back through the national location register and the roaming server to the billing system RSU;
completing the call with the RSU through the home mobile switch and through the serving mobile switch; and monitoring and controlling the call with the RSU which is operably adapted to communicate with the roaming server and a market server of the account based billing system for real-time account based billing.
receiving a call directed to a registered wireless account based roaming subscriber at a home mobile switch;
requesting with a billing system RSU of an account based billing system a TLDN
from a roaming server;
communicating the request for a TLDN to a national location register which is communicably inserted in a communication link between the home mobile switch and a serving mobile switch;
requesting with the national location register the TLDN from the serving mobile switch;
communicating the TLDN back through the national location register and the roaming server to the billing system RSU;
completing the call with the RSU through the home mobile switch and through the serving mobile switch; and monitoring and controlling the call with the RSU which is operably adapted to communicate with the roaming server and a market server of the account based billing system for real-time account based billing.
