Abstract

发明背景
I.发明领域
本发明涉及电信领域,尤其涉及一种在无线通信系统的小区或扇区之间进行切换通信的改进的方法和系统。
II.相关技术领域的描述
无线蜂窝通信已成为人们相互之间进行通信的常用系统。按照电信工业协会和电子工业协会(TIA/EIA)颁布的IS-95B工业标准的传统无线蜂窝通信系统给出了一种该类型的进行无线蜂窝通信的方法。按照IS-95B标准,移动站(如无线蜂窝移动电话)与其他的移动站、传统电话或其他的通信装置之间在包括至少一个蜂窝基站的通信链路上进行通信。移动站向蜂窝基站发射无线电信号。蜂窝基站与有线网建立起接续,而有线网可以包括传统的电话电路(如通常所知的公共交换电话网(PSTN))。
移动站一次只需要通过一个基站建立通信,从而与处于通信链路另一端的装置进行通信(即,进行呼叫)。但是,当移动站移动时,移动站和基站将失去在无线电链路上进行通信的能力。例如,如果移动站移动到基站范围以外的地方,或者在移动站和基站之间有障碍,那么移动站和基站之间的通信就会中断。这时候,就需要放置一些基站,使每一个基站的覆盖区之间有重叠。这一重叠确保了移动站可以与系统所要覆盖的每一个地理点中的至少一个基站接触。这一点很重要,因为如果移动站在较长的时间里失去与所有的基站的联系,呼叫就会“掉线”。一旦出现呼叫掉线,呼叫就必须通过移动站再次拨号进行呼叫来重新建立。
由于基站覆盖区之间的重叠,可以进行一种称之为“软切换”的过程。软切换是一种移动站从第一基站和第二基站接收相同的信号的过程。一旦第二基站变得有效,移动站最好就进入软切换(即,来自第二基站的信号将由移动站接收)。软切换确保了当移动站移动到第一基站覆盖区以外的地方并且进入第二基站覆盖区内时,呼叫不会掉线。
图1中示出了进行软切换的传统的方法。图1中给出了移动站101、第一基站103、第二基站105和移动交换中心(MSC)107。另外,下面给出了每一个装置之间进行通信的时序。例如,从移动站101向下终止在垂直线109上的箭头代表移动站101所接收的信号。垂直线109上没有箭头(即,起点处)而终止的箭头代表从移动站101发射的信号。靠近图上面的箭头代表比在靠近图下面的箭头所代表的信号前所发射的信号。有时,一个箭头上面的另一箭头可以代表连续发射的信号,因此可以是与下面的箭头所代表的信号同时发射的。例如,箭头111所代表的话务信号可以与箭头113所代表的强度测量消息(PSMM)同时发射。
如图1所示,开始时在移动站101和基站103之间发射话务信号111。接着,从移动站101发送到基站103的话务信号由基站103发送到MSC 107上。同样,在MSC 107处发出的话务信号被发送到基站103。该话务信号随后从基站103发送到移动站101。当移动站检测到来自第二基站105的导频信号具有充足的功率时,移动站101向第一基站103发送一个PSMM,表示所有当前正在接收的信号电平高于一预定阈值的所有导频信号的导频强度。在图1所示的情况下,PSMM指示移动站101从第一基站103和第二基站105接收高于阈值的导频信号。该PSMM接着如箭头115所示的那样从第一基站103发送到MSC 107。MSC 107响应该PSMM的接收,请求第二基站105分配资源,在第二基站105和移动站101之间建立起通信链路,就如方框116所示的那样。另外,MSC 107产生切换方向消息(HDM)。在如箭头119所示的时延以后,如由箭头117所示的那样,HDM从MSC 107发送到第一基站103。接着,如箭头121所示的那样,HDM消息从第一基站103发送到移动站101。HDM指示移动站101,已有一请求对第二基站105作出,请求分配资源,以在第二基站105和移动站101之间建立起通信路径。

在大多数情况下这一过程进行得很好。但是,有时,从第二基站105发送的导频信号是在从第一基站103接收的信号不再能由移动站101接收之前很短的时间里接收的。如果PSMM 115的接收和从第一基站103的HDM的发送之间的时延使得移动站101和第一基站103之间的通信链路在该HDM可以由移动站101从基站103接收之前变差,那么呼叫就会掉线。
发明概述
本发明的方法和装置使得即使在工作基站和移动站之间的通信链路在移动站已经接收到切换方向消息之前变差时也能完成软切换。移动站保留了一份它与之进行通信的基站表,称之为“工作组”。另外,移动站还保留了另一份靠近工作组中的基站的基站表。这一列表称为“相邻组”。移动站中的存储器包括使移动站能够解调从相邻组中的那些基站发送而来的信息。按照本发明的方法和装置,移动站将一基站放入工作组内,将该基站包括在导频强度测量消息(PSMM)内。或者,移动站在检测到从基站发送的信号是以大于某一阈值的信号强度接收的时候,就将该基站放入工作组内。
移动站将监视在工作组中的所有基站进行的发送。当从移动站发送的PSMM被基站接收到的时候,基站将把PSMM发送到移动交换中心(MSC)。接着,MSC请求PSMM中所指出的每一个基站向移动站分配资源,并发送切换方向消息(HDM)。因此,即便移动站通过该基站接收话务信号所进行的通信在基站已成功将HDM发送到移动站之前出现问题,移动站仍将从由移动站发送的PSMM中所指出的每一个其他基站接收HDM。由于这些基站中的每一个是被包括在移动站的工作组中的,所以移动站会监视来自每一个这样的基站的通信,并且因此接收HDM。

图2是按照本发明的一种实施例的移动站200的图。如图2所示,移动站200有一个前端201、信号处理器203、通用处理器205和存储器207。存储器中包括有一个存储了“工作组”的区域209,以及存储了“相邻组”的区域211。下面将描述移动站200中每一个元件的功能。
图3是按照本发明的装置的基站300的图。如图3所示,基站有一个前端301、信号处理器303、通用处理器305、存储器307和通信接口308。下面将描述基站300中每一个元件的功能。
图4是按照本发明一种实施例的移动交换中心(MSC)的图。如图3所示,基站有一个通信接口401、通用存储器403和存储器405。下面将描述MSC400中每一个元件的功能。
图5是通信系统的图,它包括移动站200、基站300和MSC400。应当理解,图5中移动站、基站和MSC的数量是经过选择的,这样做仅仅是为了便于描述本发明的方法和装置。但是,在采用本发明的方法和装置的系统中,实际元件数量要大于所给出元件数。然而,这些元件之间的关系仍如图5所示,
如图5所示,移动站200(如蜂窝电话)在基站300的系统内移动。每一个基站200与MSC 400通信。当建立起与移动站200的呼叫时,移动站与基站300进行通信。基站将“话务信号”中继到MSC 400。为了进行描述,话务信号是从移动站200发送到基站并且用于呼叫另一端的装置的信息的一部分。通常,MSC 400接着通过陆基系统(如公共交换电话网(PSTN))或通过互联网,将话务信号发送到处于呼叫另一端的装置。但是,需要注意的是,在本发明的另一种实施例的方法和装置中,MSC 400可以通过空中链路(如卫星上行链路、微波线路或其他这样的无线电线路)来发送话务信号。所以,应当理解,从MSC将话务信号传递到处于呼叫另一端的另一装置的方式是没有限制的。
在本发明方法和装置的一种实施例中,基站300被排列成将信息发送到三个扇区501、502、503。图5中,一个移动站200a在第一基站300a的扇区501a内,并且同时处于第二基站300b的扇区502b内。所以,移动站200a将同时从基站300a和基站300b接收导频信号。如果移动站200a一开始是在基站300a的扇区501a内,但充分远离从基站300b发送的导频信号不在预定阈值(称之为“有效导频阈值”)以上的那一个基站300b,那么,按照本发明的方法和装置,会出现下面的过程。
当基站300b所发送的导频信号首次在处于有效导频阈值以上的功率下由移动站200a接收到时,那么移动站200a会产生一个导频强度测量消息(PSMM)。参见图2,来自基站300a和基站300b的导频信号将由移动站200a中的前端201接收。最好在前端201中使信号数字化,并且将信号的数字表示形式与信号处理器203相耦合。信号处理器203将按传统的方式确定导频信号的强度。每一个导频信号的强度值接着与通用处理器205耦合,确定每一导频率信号是否在有效导频阈值以上。另外,还判断在有效导频阈值以上信号强度下接收每一个当前导频信号是否正处于存储器207中所存储的工作组209内。如果一导频信号是在处于有效导频阈值以上的信号电平下接收的,但不在工作组中,那么将由通用处理器205来产生PSMM。
PSMM将在基站和MSC 400之间的连接501上发送到MSC 400(见图5)。PSMM将识别目前在大于有效导频阈值的信号电平下接收的每一个导频信号。
另外,移动站200中的通用处理器205将移动站200所接收的每一个导频信号加到工作组209内。在本发明方法和装置的一种实施例中,通用处理器205将确定工作组中当前有多少导频信号。如果工作组中的导频信号数超过了所要求的数量,那么,通用处理器205将从来自移动站200的PSMM中已有的所有导频信号中选择所要求的导频信号数。对哪些导频信号要包括在工作组中的判断是通过在最强的信号电平下选择移动站200所接收的那些导频信号来作出的。
一旦导频信号是包括在工作组209内,移动站200将解调从与该导频信号相关的基站发出的话务信道。解调相邻组每一导频信号的话务信道所需的信息是与相邻组存储在一起的。要包括在工作组中的导频信号应当与工作导频信号(即工作组中的一个导频信号)中的一个相邻。所以,移动站200必须具有解调在比有效导频信号阈值更大的导频信号强度下接收的任何一个导频信号的话务信道所必须的信息。在本发明方法和装置的一种实施例中,存储在相邻组211中的信息是由与工作组中的导频信号相关的一个或多个基站提供的。
一旦移动站在将PSMM发送到基站300a以后,基站300a就将PSMM中继到MSC400。参见图3,基站300在反向话务信道上或在经时间多路复用、编码多路复用或与话务信道或导频信道有区别的控制信道上接收PSMM。PSMM是由基站通过前端301接收的。PSMM在前端301中数字化,并提供到信号处理器303进行解调。信号处理器303解调信号,并将信号的内容提供给通用处理器305,用于通过通信接口308传输到MSC 400。
参见图4,MSC 400通过MSC 400中的通信接口401,从基站接收PSMM的内容。随后,将PSMM的内容与通用处理器403耦合。MSC 400中的通用处理器403产生HDM。HDM是一种指出哪一个基站300将把前向话务信道传送到移动站200a的消息。由于MSC 400最好具有选择一个或多个基站进行话务信号发送的能力,所以,HDM能够告诉移动站200a,由工作组中的导频信号所识别的哪一个基站300将确实会发送话务信号。
HDM再耦合回到MSC 400中的通信接口401,以传送到PSMM中指出的每一个基站300。在每个基站300中通信接口308接收读HDM。HDM接着与每一基站300中的通用处理器305耦合。每一通用处理器305将HDM耦合到发送PSMM的移动站200a。即使基站300a在前向话务信道上所发送的信号不再强到能够由移动站200a来接收,移动站200a也至少从基站300b来接收HDM。
应当理解,尽管本发明的方法和装置是采用PSMM和HDM(这在业内人士是众所周知的)来描述的,但这里所描述的仅有功能是与所揭示的本发明的方法和装置相关。所以,如果行业标准PSMM或HDM还有其他的功能、格式或特征在本文中还没有被引用,那么就不能将这些功能、格式或特征看作是本发明的方法和装置的一部分。实际上,所有的消息格式都可以用来向基站300指出已在工作导频信号阈值以上的水平上接收到那些导频信号。同样,任何消息形式都可以用来向移动站200a指出哪些基站将会把话务信号发送到移动站200a。
图6是按照本发明的方法和装置在移动站200a、基站300a、基站300b和MSC 400之间的消息流的图。如图6所示,话务信道一开始是在移动站200a和基站300a之间建立起来的。当移动站200a检测到来自基站300并且处于工作导频信号阈值以上的导频信号时,移动站200a就把PSMM发送到基站300a。PSMM指出,移动站200a当前正在大于工作导频信号阈值的水平上,同时从基站300a和基站300b接收导频信号。在图6中这用PSMM后面括弧中的“X”和“Y”类似表示。PSMM由基站300a中继到MSC 400。MSC 400与基站300b进行通信,请求由基站300b进行资源分配,以支持往返于基站200a之间的话务信道。MSC400接着产生一条HDM,并将其发送到基站300a、300b,而该HDM表示基站300a、300b将建立起通向移动站的话务信道。移动站200a随后产生和发送一条切换完成消息HCM。HCM由基站300a接收并中继到MSC 400。HCM通知MSC 400,移动站已成功接收到了该HDM。
图7是表示按照本发明的方法和装置由移动站执行的过程的流程图。按照图7所示的方法,移动站200a判断是否有导频信号在高于有效导频阈值的水平上接收到(步骤701)。如果有导频信号在高于有效导频阈值的水平上接收到,则移动站200a就判断每一这样的导频信号是否是在工作组209中(步骤703)。如果至少有一个这样的导频信号不是处于工作组209中的,那么就产生PSMM,并发送到移动站已与之建立了话务信道的基站(即,与当前工作组中的导频信号相关的那些基站300)(步骤705)。
随后,移动站200a将每一个在有效导频阈值以上接收的导频信号放入工作组209中(步骤707)。在将所有这些导频信号放入了工作组内以后,移动站接着监视来自与工作组中的导频信号相关的每一接着的发送,以试图接收HDM(步骤709)。一旦接收到HDM以后,移动站200a产生并发送表示已完成切换的HCM(步骤711)。移动站200a接着在往返于HDM中所指出的每一个基站之间,在话务信道上开始时进行发射和接收。

确定测量到的信号功率大于一阈值的、未经话务信道和移动站通信的各个基站收发器;
由移动站根据所述确定向一工作组添加基站收发器的标识符;
通过经话务信道与移动站通信的至少一个基站收发器,从工作组传送标识符;以及
在所述移动站以及未经话务信道与所述移动站通信的至少一个所传送的基站收发器之间建立起一话务信道,
其中,一移动交换中心向强度测量消息中所指定的每一个基站发送切换方向消息,所述强度测量消息表示所有当前正在接收的信号电平高于一预定阈值的所有导频信号的导频强度。
