技术领域
本发明涉及诸如便携式数据终端(PDT)的远程设备的管理，并且更具体地涉及用于管理远程设备的界面。
背景技术
诸如便携式数据终端(PDT)、便携式数据助理(PDA)和其它用于自动识别与数据采集(AIDC)的设备的远程设备通常将远程位置的数据提供回到中心站(central office)。有时，这些设备具有监视设备运行和将设备状态信息提供给中心站的能力。在Caballo等人的美国专利公开号2008/0185432A1中对这类远程设备进行了描述，该专利公开通过引用被结合在此。
远程设备可以具有在远离中心站时改变其配置或者安装新的应用程序的能力。Berthiaume等人的美国专利公开号2009/0044003教导了这类方法并且通过引用被结合在此。
远程设备可以被远程设备管理(RDM)系统管理，该系统允许RDM用户管理远程设备，包括更新配置以及设备软件，并对多个设备可能共同的问题进行跟踪，并且在可行的情况下提供对这些问题的修正(fix)。
然而，一些RDM系统积累了大量的诊断和性能数据。在计算机显示器的图形用户界面上以清晰、简洁、有意义且直观的方式组织数据是个问题。不是显示太多的数据以致混乱和混淆，就是用户必须通过多个有时是非直观的对话框进行导航以访问所需信息。

参照图1，示出了根据本发明的至少一个实施例的通过广域网(WAN)24与服务器20和远程设备管理终端22通信的远程设备12、14、16和18的系统的图示10。本领域的技术人员会理解WAN 24可以包括因特网、蜂窝电话通信、其它RF通信系统等以及它们的组合。远程设备管理终端22包括数据处理单元26、键盘28、具有用于左击和右击的至少两个按钮的指示设备30以及显示器32。服务器20可以将其连接到数据存储模块34。
远程设备12-16是数据采集设备(DCD)，其可以是便携式数据终端(PDT)、便携式数据助理(PDA)等。数据采集设备是一类用来收集、处理并传送数据到数据处理系统的设备。
如美国专利公开号2008/0185432A1中描述的，在工作中，远程设备12-16具有监视各设备运行和向中心站提供设备状态和性能信息的能力。服务器20接收来自远程设备诸如远程设备12-16的数据，并向远程设备提供配置更新信息。终端22与服务器20交互以在显示器32上提供界面屏幕，其允许远程设备的用户定位每个远程设备、确定每个远程设备的配置、分析远程设备的性能以及在需要时向远程设备发送更新的配置信息。服务器20还可以具有存储在数据处理单元26中的硬盘驱动器或数据存储模块34中的误差检测和配置软件，该软件独立于显示器32上的界面屏幕运行。

在本发明的一个实施例中，在指示设备箭头位于图标(例如标号为3的远程设备的图标)上时左键双击指示设备30使得弹出细节面板窗口70和图表面板窗口72，如图2B所示。细节窗口70可以具有图标分组74，其表示具有与该地图中示出的数字相同的数字的特定远程设备62。每个分组74还可以包括表示设备类型的图标62和表示特定的远程设备被配置来识别的符号类型的图标76以及在图标62下面的配置框78中的更多配置信息。例如，照相机图标76可以表示具有图片拍摄能力的远程设备。可以示出远程设备中使用的应用程序软件(App Software)以及软件配置(Config.)。此外，可以示出已被发送到服务器30的在图2B中标记为“度量(Metric)”的被监视数据的列表。可以在框80中描述每个度量，其中度量的当前值位于在每个框80下面示出的线82上。还可以存在供用户在所选择设备上输入注释的部分86。

图2F是在把四个远程设备图标拖动到选择面板中的新位置、使用指示设备30在四个图标周围拖拉(draw)框100并且通过在远离任一图标分组74的框84内右键点击指示设备30而使选择框96出现之后的图2D。通过把与所选择远程设备对应的所选择图标拖动到一个区域、在所选择图标周围拖拉框并且右键点击框100，用户可以一次对几个远程设备执行相同操作。例如，用户可以使用图2F所示的用户界面屏幕来用新配置对该框100内的所有设备进行更新。在图标分组74不覆盖(filed)的框的区域上停留可以产生配置框，该配置框只示出对该框内的所有远程设备共同的配置参数。因此，在图2F中，在图标分组74之一不占有的框100的区域上停留会产生配置框，该配置框示出远程设备3，4，5，6在它们为相同型号情况下的共同型号、以及其它任何共同的配置参数。
图2G是在用户扩大了在地图60上的所选择位置周围的部分以形成更详细的地图102之后的图2F。用户还选择了在选择面板和地图面板两者中隐藏除框100内的四个远程设备之外的远程设备。此外，右键点击了图标分组之一104，这产生选择框96。在图2G所示的实施例中，通过使用选择框96，可以通过改变远程设备中的应用程序或者通过改变远程设备的配置，更新图标分组104表示的远程设备。
图2H是在更新了图标分组104表示的远程设备(这可以导致以新颜色显示远程设备图标62因此确认该更新)之后的图2G。此外，在图2H中已将另一图标106添加到远程设备图标104，以表示该远程设备现在具有解释邮政编码符号的能力。

当远程设备管理界面屏幕关闭时，选择面板、地图面板、细节面板和图表面板中的最后屏幕和设置被保存并且在下次启用(bring up)界面屏幕时向用户恢复。
图2A-2I中示出的用户界面屏幕通过提供图形配置工具允许用户解决配置问题。此外，使用上面描述的图形用户界面，引入到系统中的新设备可以被快速识别并进入所需配置。
图3是示出用于识别远程设备62中的故障或者潜在故障的过程的流程图120。服务器20接收输入系统的原始度量数据，如框122所示。此类度量可以包括CPU负荷、扫描时间以及美国专利公开号2008/0185432中列举的其它监视事件。原始度量数据可以自动地发送给服务器或者可以由于服务器20请求信息而发送给服务器。服务器20会将新数据与数据存储模块34中存储的可接受范围的度量数据规范进行相互对照(cross reference)以确定新度量是否超出容限，并且还可以将新度量数据与之前数据对比以确定新度量数据是否明显偏离针对相同类型和配置的远程设备62的之前度量数据的平均值，如框124和126所示。
如果度量数据因为它超出容限或者明显偏离之前度量数据的平均值而超出范围，或者在从远程设备通知误差或者设备故障的情况下，则服务器20会尝试将该数据与之前的数据关联以确定之前是否出现过故障，如框128所示。在这两种情况下，系统都会努力找到有问题的设备和其它设备的设备型号、修订、安装软件等之间的互相关系。这样，不仅将检测到问题，还将准确检测哪些其它设备可能具有相同的问题，并因此自动更新那些设备。在由框128表示的关联过程中，系统还会努力在超出范围的度量和有相同或类似超范围状况的设备之间建立相互关联，因此能够预测系统是否可能有问题。其会比较的事件不局限于故障或者超出容限度量，因为即使是看起来没问题的数据也可能是问题的预测量(predictor)。随着数据库增长以及其事件相互关联网格增长，系统将在预测问题方面日益有效。
如果度量数据按照上面描述的且框126所示的测试是超范围的，则如框132所示，服务器20确定修正是否可用于超范围状况。如果修正可用，则如框132所示那样应用修正。如果修正不可用，则如框134所示那样警告用户。这里术语“用户”指远程设备的操作员或者负责远程设备62的人，或者这两者。
如果在框126和128所示的测试中确定存在具有故障设备(具有超范围的度量的设备)的模式，则如框136所示的那样确定故障是否严重。如果故障是严重的，则如框134所示的那样警告用户，而如果故障是不严重的，则服务器会通过返回接收新的原始度量数据(如框122所示)来等待更多的度量数据，如框138所示。如果在框128中确定不存在具有故障设备的模式，则使用更大的数据库诸如可从特定远程设备的制造商获得的数据库进行检查，或者通过返回接收新的原始度量数据(如框122所示)等待更多的度量数据，如框140所示。

Claims (14)

1.一种管理远程设备的过程，所述远程设备单独可配置为具有所选择运行特征，该过程包括：
提供网络，该网络具有与多个不同类型的远程设备连接的服务器，其中每个远程设备可通过从服务器接收软件更新进行配置；
提供用户界面屏幕；
在所述用户界面屏幕上给相同类型的每个远程设备分配共同图标；以及
使每个图标着色，以表示每个远程设备的当前配置状态。
2.根据权利要求1所述的过程，包括进一步的步骤：
拖动并放下所选择图标到区域；
将所述区域封闭在边界之内；
对所述边界内的图标所表示的每个设备应用共同软件更新；以及
选择所述边界内的单独设备的图标并且用该设备的单独更新来更新所选择设备。
3.根据权利要求2所述的过程，包括进一步的步骤：根据该更新来改变经更新图标的颜色以表示新状态。
