本发明涉及交互式多媒体领域,特别涉及交互式数据库检索、存贮和显示。
人们一直在努力寻找一种途径为接收视像和声音传送的用户提供越来越多的支持信息。一种正在开发中的支持手段是向用户提供交互式服务。例如,交互式电视支持者正在研制多种形式的交互式手段,使观众与显示在电视上的材料之间建立起一种更为沟通的关系。这通常体现在以可见到的或可听到的信息来满足用户的查询。
紧致盘—交互式的(CD-I)或其它经过预编排的多媒体物质允许用户/观众浏览数据库的内容。用户可以利用其预编排的菜单有选择地进行查询。为进行查询,可使用电子、光电或红外的直接控制器或遥控器从显示出的菜单中作出选择。某些应用使用了声音识别技术。这些技术使用户可以从一个简单菜单中,或从诸如目录、索引、甚至一本完整的书之类的多种选项中进行声音查询或声音选择。在文本和书刊目录的数据库查找方面,已有商业应用存在。此类的例子有Dow Jones,Nexis/Lexis,和Dialog。
对于这类系统,要实现声音或其它识别选择技术,通常要求该识别系统能够从一个大容量词典中匹配用户输入。该词典可能必须包含有关语种的所有单词、甚至是专有名词、缩语和术语。这种识别处理是硬件和软件密集的,实现起来无论从投资上还是时间上来说代价都较大。即便如此,由于需要查找大容量的目标词典,这就先天决定了其结果必然是产生延迟、歧义和错误。

在一个实施例中,系统还含有一个应用媒体,用来为至少一个信息元素提供扩展信息。在另一个实施例中,识别处理器对至少一个被提取信息元素进行预处理。具有一定存贮容量的缓冲区最好在一旦变满之后,可以通过覆盖保存在缓冲区中最旧的信息元素,继续接收另外的信息元素。在另外一个实施例中,信息元素与输入信号一起包含在封闭字幕正文中,而提取器含有一个机制用以从输入信号中分离出封闭字幕正文。
本发明的另一个目标是提供一个实时识别系统,该系统包含:一种用以从当前信息流中提取目标词汇的装置;一个用以保存目标词汇的缓冲区;一种装置,使观看当前信息流的用户可以要求目标词汇表中某个条目的有关附加信息;以及一个识别处理器,用来将用户的请求转换成与目标词汇匹配的主题。最好,当前信息流具有便于观看的某种格式,并且,匹配的主题可以被应用识别。系统含有:将匹配的主题传送到应用的装置、从应用中检索附加信息的装置,以及另一种装置,该装置能够将适量的附加信息以可观看的格式通过检索到的信号流传回用户。

本发明认识到,就交互式而言,一个观众最有可能要求得到与刚刚出现的条目和/或单词相关的信息。因此,本发明创建一个含有在节目进程中刚刚出现的条目、关键条目、单词或关键字的词典。这些就构成了识别系统中目标词典的所有表项。这种方法将识别系统进行识别所需的要求减少到只需识别有限的词汇。在存贮容量、软件和硬件要求、处理时间、成本、耗电量、准确性和许多其它成功所需因素方面,这种方法实现起来远非复杂,而是相当简单。同时,它有可能具有此处说明的高级用途。

识别处理器106是用来接收用户请求,并能够匹配口述的或采用其它方式传至的‘单词’的装置。识别处理器可类似于‘IBM语音型口述命令处理’系统。它识别用户请求的方法是通过对照保存在缓冲区104中的词汇表,来匹配请求‘单词’。当产生一个匹配时,识别处理器106解释请求的含义,并将该请求传送到应用112。作为一种选择,可以提供一种手段来预处理一个匹配请求,其方法是在请求产生之前就传送已存于缓冲区中的‘单词’。当采用这种方法时,应用可以对这些‘单词’进行预处理,并产生搜索结果以便随时传送给用户。如果用户实际发出的请求是针对一个经过预处理的条目时,系统将更加迅速地满足该请求。
用户界面110允许正在接收无线电、电视、或电话信号的用户借助语音或其它输入请求手段发出请求,以得到与最近看到或听到的某个主题相关的、更详细的视像或声音信息。该用户界面使观众或听众可以直接或远距离地向某个应用发出请求,并观看其响应。作为一种选择,用户可以看到或听到被确定为有效输入的‘单词’。作为另外的选择,可以允许其它形式的请求,如利用按钮从视像或声音形式的有效请求菜单中进行选择。
信号显示器108是将声音、视像和/或电话信号送达观众或听众的装置。信号显示器108可以是一个用户正在收看或收听的普通收音机、电视机、或电话机。它显示出用户通常期望得到的任何信息,还显示出对上下文触发的请求作出的响应。在用户命令时,该显示器还用来显示一个有效请求菜单。在视像显示的情况下为得到请求响应,可使用可选视像来替代普通视像,或使之与普通视像一起显示。这一点可以利用包括画中画和分隔屏幕在内的熟知技术进行实现。作为一种有用的选择,可以提供给用户某种手段以显示缓冲区的所有或部分内容,使得用户能够选择有效的请求。这可以用目录词条菜单的形式实现。
在本发明一个实施例中,所提供的装置采用封闭字幕正文作为存贮缓冲区的输入。在美国,封闭字幕在NTSC信号垂直消隐间隔的第21行进行传送。本发明的装置和方法最好能够捕获并采用其它视像数据服务,从而搜索、定位和导入信息用来满足用户的请求。这种服务的例子如图文电视,以及电子工业协会标准数据服务,该服务采用的是NTSC,EIA-608标准:适用于NTSC的21行数据服务,1994。
最好允许设定所有‘条目’和/或‘单词’的优先级。可以设定优先级,使某种应用的相关‘条目’或‘单词’能够保持比普通持续时间更长的一段时间,甚至在节目的整个观看过程之中都一直保持。这将取决于被收看的节目类型,如新闻、体育、音乐、电影等等。高优先级可以分配给标识节目本身的单词。某些此类信息可以直接从信号的视像或声音部分中捕获。也可以从信号的嵌入部分中捕获,这种嵌入部分的例子可以是在视频垂直消隐间隔中传送的封闭字幕正文。任何被存贮的条目和/或单词只在词典中出现一次。在某些应用中,某个条目和/或单词在节目中出现的次数可被连续地更新和记录。这可以用作决定该条目或单词优先级的依据。
最好还能够提供手段对被存贮条目和单词进行预处理。预处理器可以进行搜索,即为检索之用完成寻找、标识、准备工作,它甚至从一个或多个特定数据库中检索信息,而这些数据库与存贮在词典中的条目或单词是相关的。在新条目和/或单词被接收且加入到存贮缓冲区中的同时,上述处理可以连续进行。对代表着可能用户请求的关键字进行预处理,在以后作出这种请求时,系统的响应时间将缩短。最好结合特定条目或单词的优先级进行预处理工作。它可能只搜索那些其优先级至少为中高的条目或单词,而且实际上只为那些其优先级比中高优先级更高的条目或单词检索信息。
本发明有许多可能的实施例。下面描述了几个,其中,节目的用户看到了和/或听到了他希望进一步了解的东西。在某个场景,用户正在收看电视新闻节目,该观众听到新闻播音员提到某些国家,如‘法国’。用户甚至可能看到屏幕上显示出此国家的地图。对该观众来说,显示出的地图提供的信息量不够。然后,新闻播音员转到另一个话题。采用本发明,该观众调出一个最近被保存关键字的菜单,并注意到单词‘法国’和/或‘法国地图’的确被保存在字典中。然后,观众输入一个有关‘法国’的请求。输入的发出可以通过语音,或通过在显示出的词典菜单中作出直接或遥控选择。识别系统对照其字典对输入单词进行匹配,并判断出该观众希望得到有关法国的某些信息。它向应用数据库发出请求,要求得到有关法国的信息。该应用可以位于本地或远程的一个含有百科全书的CD-ROM或数据库。该应用检索百科全书中有关法国的数据条目。根据该应用复杂程度的不同,可将检索到的数据全部显示出来,或将主题条目片段显示给用户,或将选定主题的信息标题列表显示给用户,此处的选定主题即是法国。可以利用画中画、分隔屏幕、屏幕下端正文或其它技术将检索到的信息覆盖显示在电视播送节目上。甚至可以将一幅法国地图显示给用户。观众通常能够放大或缩小地图,还可以将新闻中提到的地点添加到透视图中。
在另一个实施例中,发明中的装置应用于可能出现的下面场景。观众在看电影时,听到演员提到了情节中的一个角色。用户一旦发出请求后,由电影节目制片者、播音员或拨号服务提供者所提供的服务将给出节目有关的信息。所提供的信息的全部索引可能极为庞大,占用的存贮容量要多于提供给普通用户的显示菜单所占容量。它包括的内容如:节目统计资料、其角色和/或饰演角色的演员。本发明减少了显示给用户的菜单中需包含的索引信息量。显示出的菜单中只含有那些与最近向观众显示的条目有关的索引信息。这个有限的索引信息量实际上不超过普通用户设备的存贮容量。索引信息是动态的,并且在慢慢地变化,以便包含最近放映的电影片段中所出现的的条目和单词。观众从显示出的菜单中选择所需的特定主题。例如,如果用户输入某个角色的名字以期望得到其更多的信息,该名字将与菜单词典进行比较。于是识别处理器将比照显示菜单中有效名字对该名字进行比较。一旦发现匹配,处理器把该匹配传送给数据库应用。所需的信息被检索出来,并以子标题类型的正文形式显示出来,而与此同时用户仍在观看电影。存贮器信息的第二部分是相对不变的。它包含某些菜单条目,而这些条目通常在节目的整个过程之中保持不变。它们包括电影名称,以及其它可用来指点节目相关数据库部分的信息。
本发明的另一方面是提供了一个动态词典,它含有:一个输入信息流,它带有大量可识别的信息元素;一个识别器,用来接收该信息流,识别和选择信息元素;一个缓冲区,它用来存贮选定的信息元素。该词典最好含有被选定信息元素的索引。被选定信息元素可以经排序后存贮,用户可以利用显示有该索引的菜单显示装置访问这些被选定信息元素。排序的依据可以是信息元素的优先级、收到的顺序、或是字母数字的升序或降序。
尽管上面的叙述针对的是一个特定的框图和方案,本发明的意图和概念仍然适用其它方案。本领域的技术人员应该清楚,在不背离本发明主旨和范围的前提下,可以对所阐述的实施例进行其它修改。

Claims (29)

1.一个系统,它从节目中接收输入信号,并将所述节目显示到某种节目显示媒体上以呈现给用户,所述输入信号带有大量信息元素,而一个应用可以为这些元素提供扩展信息,所述系统含有:
一个上下文提取器,用以从所述输入信号中提取所述大量信息元素中的每一个元素;
一个缓冲区,用以接收来自所述上下文提取器的所述每个被提取信息元素,并把每个被提取信息元素保存一个预定的时间段;
一个用户界面,以便所述用户发出请求,要求接收与至少一个所述信息元素有关的所述扩展信息;以及
一个识别处理器,用以接收所述请求,并在所述请求和被所述上下文提取器提取出的所述信息元素之间识别出匹配,而且向所述应用传送该所述匹配信息,借此所述应用将所述扩展信息显示到所述显示媒体上。
2.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:它还含有一个应用媒体,用来为至少一个所述信息元素提供所述扩展信息。
3.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:所述识别处理器对至少一个被提取出的所述信息元素进行预处理。
4.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:所述请求是所述用户发出的一个语音请求。
5.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:所述缓冲区具有一定存贮容量,一旦所述接收到的信息元素占满所述存贮容量后,可以通过覆盖最旧的所述信息元素,将另外接收到的所述信息元素进行保存。
6.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:从所述输入信号中提取出的所述大量信息元素形成一个动态词典。
7.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:所述输入信号含有封闭字幕正文,而所述提取器含有一种装置用以从所述输入信号中分离出所述封闭字幕正文,并且所述封闭字幕正文含有所述大量信息元素中的至少一个。
8.按照权利要求7的一个系统,其特征在于:所述输入信号是NTSC类型的电视信号,并且所述封闭字幕正文位于NTSC第21行。
9.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于:它还含有一种装置,用来为每个被所述上下文提取器提取出的所述信息元素分配一个优先级。
10.按照权利要求9的一个系统,其特征在于:所述时间段取决于为每个所述被提取信息元素分配的所述优先级。
11.按照权利要求1的一个系统,其特征在于利用从画中画、分隔屏幕、视频正文和可选图像这些技术中选出至少一种手段,将所述扩充信息和所述节目显示在一起。
12.一个动态词典,该词典包含:
一个带有大量可识别信息元素的输入信息流;
一个识别器,用以接收所述信息流且识别和选择所述大量可识别信息元素;以及
一个缓冲区,用来把由所述识别器选定的所述大量可识别信息元素保存一个预定的时间段。
13.按照权利要求12的动态词典,其特征在于:该词典还含有由所述识别器选定的所述大量可识别信息元素的一个索引。
14.按照权利要求13的动态词典,其特征在于:所述索引按照字母数字升序排序。
15.按照权利要求13的动态词典,其特征在于:该词典还含有一个菜单显示装置,用以显示所述索引。
16.按照权利要求12的动态词典,其特征在于:所述缓冲区具有一定容量,每个所述大量可识别信息元素在所述缓冲区中存贮至少一个预定的时间段,先接收到的大量信息元素所存贮的时间要比后接收到的大量信息元素长,一旦所述大量可识别信息元素占满所述存贮容量后,可以通过在覆盖所述后接收到的大量信息元素之前覆盖所述先接收到的信息元素,而保存另外接收到的所述大量可识别信息元素。
17.一个与应用交互作用的实时用户语音识别系统,所述应用能够为大量主题提供附加信息,所述系统含有:
一种装置,用来从具有可观看格式的当前信息流中提取被更新的目标词汇;
一个缓冲区,用来在所述被更新的目标词汇经过提取后,接收所述被更新的目标词汇,并把所述被更新的目标词汇保存一个预定的时间段;
一种装置,使正在观看所述当前信息流的用户能够发出请求,要求得到有关所述被更新的目标词汇表中至少一个条目的一定数量附加信息,该条目最近在所述当前信息流被引用到,但所述当前信息流中并未提供所述附加信息;
一个识别处理器,用于将所述请求转化成一个在所述被更新的目标词汇表中存在匹配的主题,并且将所述匹配的主题传送给所述应用;
一种装置,用于从所述应用的所述大量主题中检索所述一定数量的附加信息;以及
一种装置,它通过一个经检索得到的信号流以可观看的格式将所述一定数量的附加信息发送给所述用户。
18.按照权利要求17的一个实时用户语音系统,其特征在于:它还含有一个数据库应用,该数据库应用能够为所述大量主题中的至少一个主题提供附加信息。
19.按照权利要求17的一个实时用户语音系统,其特征在于:所述识别处理器为所述被更新的目标词汇表中至少一个条目进行预处理。
20.一种识别方法,用于从节目中接收输入信号,并将所述节目显示到一个节目显示媒体上以呈现给用户,所述输入信号带有大量信息元素,而一个应用可以为这些元素提供扩展信息,所述方法含有下面的步骤:
从所述输入信号中提取所述大量信息元素中的每一个元素;
将所述大量被提取信息元素每个在在一个缓冲区中保存一个预定的时间段;
当所述用户要求接收与所述大量被提取信息元素中至少一个有关的所述扩展信息时,对此请求作出响应;
将所述请求与所述被提取信息元素进行匹配;以及
将所述匹配传送给所述应用,然后,所述应用将所述扩展信息显示到所述显示媒体上。
21.按照权利要求20的识别方法,其特征在于还含有下面的步骤:提供一个应用媒体,以便为所述大量信息元素中至少一个提供所述扩展信息。
22.按照权利要求20的识别方法,其特征在于还含有下面的步骤:对至少一个所述被提取信息元素进行预处理。
23.按照权利要求20的识别方法,其特征在于:所述请求的产生和识别来自于所述用户的语音请求。
24.按照权利要求20的识别方法,其特征在于:所述缓冲区具有一定的存贮容量,一旦所述接收到的信息元素占满所述存贮容量时,通过覆盖正在保存中的最旧信息元素,将另外接收到的所述信息元素进行保存。
25.按照权利要求20的识别方法,其特征在于还含有下面的步骤:用所述节目中的所述信息元素组成一个动态词典。
26.按照权利要求20的识别方法,其特征在于含有下面的步骤:为每个所述被提取信息元素分配一个优先级,所述特定时间段取决于为所述被分配的优先级。
27.用以形成动态词典的一个方法,该方法含有下面的步骤:
提供带有大量可识别信息元素的输入信息流;
识别和选择所述信息元素;
将所述被选定信息元素在缓冲区中保存一个预定的时间段。
28.按照权利要求27的方法,其特征在于还含有下面的步骤:对所述被选定信息元素编索引。
29.按照权利要求28的方法,其特征在于:对所述索引按照字母数字升序进行排序。
