Abstract
在具有N对匹配设备的一个镜像RAID-1系统中,一个RAID-1系统把每台存储设备的1/(2N-1)分配为备用区,从而实现了备用。每台设备的剩余部分分区为(2N-2)个数据分区。如果一台设备发生故障,把其对方的内容复制到其他设备的备用区。即使第二设备随后也出现了故障,这样做也保持了容错。
Description
技术领域
一般说来,本发明涉及在一个镜像存储系统中保持备用存储空间,以便当存储设备发生故障时使用。
背景技术
磁盘阵列系统比如廉价冗余磁盘阵列(RAID),用于可靠的数据存储,其方式为向协同运行的多台磁盘驱动器上分布的数据增加冗余度。本发明是针对镜像RAID系统,也称为RAID-1系统。RAID-1系统的设计目的是执行效率高,而向存储介质写入次数少,在一个磁盘阵列上保持着数据的两个完全相同的副本。确切地说,RAID-1系统中的存储设备是成对安排的,一对当中的每台磁盘上保存的数据,与对方保存的数据完全相同。相比之下,在RAID-5系统中,数据和校验和(奇偶校验)信息分布在所有的驱动器上,以便当一台设备发生故障时,其数据可以从其他设备上的奇偶校验信息和其余信息中重建。
如同本文所理解,在RAID阵列中需要提供备用空间,以便在一台设备发生故障时,其内容就可以在备用空间中重建(RAID-5的情况)或者从其对方复制(RAID-1的情况),以保持冗余度。然而,由于RAID-1和RAID-5系统的结构不同,为RAID-5设计的备用方案,比如5,258,984、5,657,439和5,485,571号美国专利所公开的方案,不能应用于RAID-1系统。虽然如此,由于RAID-1系统的性能较好、可靠性更高,对某些应用仍然是首选。
目前,在RAID-1系统中提供了两种备用空间的方法。第一种是在系统中简单地提供额外的第(2N+1)台设备,以便在一台设备出现故障时,其对方的内容就能够复制到备用空间中。遗憾的是,在某些实施方案中,比如把RAID设备被安排在一片称为“刀片”的、可现场拆卸的大型卡中时,空间是格外宝贵的。可能根本就没有足够的空间来容纳额外的备用设备。
目前,在RAID-1系统中提供备用空间的第二种方法,是释放整个一对匹配的设备,将其用作备用空间。当然,这样做就使系统的容量减少了整整一对设备。
认识到上述的问题之后,下面提供解决方案。
发明内容
一种包括计算机可用的指令的系统,在具有有N对数据存储设备的一个镜像存储系统中,这些指令使一个数字处理装置承担逻辑功能。逻辑功能包括把每台设备的1/(2N-1)分配为一个备用区,其中基本上不存储数据,除非当一台设备出现故障时。逻辑功能还包括把每台磁盘其余的非备用区划分为(2N-2)个数据分区。当一台设备发生故障时,把其对方数据分区中的数据复制到其余的其他(2N-1)台无故障设备(即不包括对方)的相应备用区中。若干这种优选的非限制存储设备可以安排在在一个刀片上,但是本发明不限于这种布局。
利用本发明,如果在第一设备出现故障之后,其对方也出现故障,在对方上存储的数据仍然可以在若干无故障设备中得到。同样,如果在第一设备出现故障之后,不是该第一设备的对方的第二设备也出现了故障,存储在第二设备上的某些数据仍然可以在该第二设备的对方中得到,存储在第二设备上的其余数据仍然可以在该第一设备的对方中得到。存储设备可以是硬盘驱动器或者是头盘组件(HDA)。
在另一方面,一个数据存储系统包括RAID-1配置中的多台数据存储设备,在每台设备上都分配了一个备用区。同样,每台设备上也都分配了若干数据存储区。
在又一方面,一种操作具有N对数据存储设备的RAID-1数据存储系统方法包括:把每台设备的1/(2N-1)分配为一个备用区,以及把其余的非备用区划分为(2N-2)个数据分区。当第一设备出现故障时,本方法包括从其对方把数据复制到不与第一设备配对的设备中。

图5和图6是示意图,分别显示了第二对方和非对方设备出现故障之后的存储设备。
具体实施方式
一开始,参考图1,其中显示了一个系统,一般指定为10,用于确保数据的冗余度。系统10是一个镜像系统,其中有“N”对数据存储设备12,比如磁盘驱动器,在一对中的设备保存着相同数据的完全相同的副本。在某些实施方案中,系统10是指一个RAID-1系统。在一个优选实施中,若干设备12安排在一片俗称为“刀片”的、可现场拆卸的大型卡13上。图1的展示性非限制实施例有六台设备12,编号从0到5。
如图1所示,系统10可以包括一个数字处理装置,比如一个控制器14,与存储设备12通信。控制器14能够与一台计算机或者CPU16通信。在一个计划的实施例中,控制器14和计算机16中的任意一个或者两者都可以通过个人计算机、服务器、便携式电脑、掌上电脑、或者任何其他适当的数字处理设备实施。在又一个实施例中,控制器14包括在刀片上,使得刀片形成了一个完整的存储子系统。无论在何种情况下,控制器14都是从计算机16接收读写请求,对设备12上存储的数据进行操作。如果需要,控制器14还可以与高速缓存18通信。
控制器14使用若干计算机指令,执行图2所示的逻辑功能,这些指令可以包含带有计算机可读介质的数据存储设备中,比如一片计算机软盘。或者,这些指令也可以存储在常规的硬盘驱动器包括一台或多台设备12、电子只读存储器、光存储设备或者其他适当的数据存储设备中。
现在参考图2,逻辑功能开始于方框20,有N对镜像数据存储设备,比如RAID-1系统中的设备,N在这里是一个整数。在附图所示的说明性非限制实施例中,N=3。“镜像设备”意味着一对中的两台设备(直到下面讨论中的故障出现之前)存储着完全相同的数据。各台数据存储设备可以是硬盘驱动器或者是磁头-盘组件(HDA)。
进至方框22,优选情况下,每台设备逻辑分区为一个备用区和一个数据区,后者进一步逻辑分区为若干数据分区。更确切地说,如方框24所示,每台设备的备用区占设备总容量的1/(2N-1)。在所示的示范性实施例中有六台设备12,安排为三对,每台设备的备用区占其总存储容量的五分之一(1/5)。同时,如方框26所示,优选情况下,每台设备12其余的非备用部分逻辑分区为(2N-2)个相同大小的数据分区。在所示实施例中,每台设备12已经分区为四(4)个数据分区。
图3展示了以上步骤的结果。以图3中标注为“设备0”的设备12为例,当方框26完成之后,每台设备12都包含一个存储区28(图3中标注为“S”),占设备12容量的1/(2N-1)。同时,每台设备12还有(2N-2)个数据分区30。
在图3至图6中,每一列设备表示一对设备,一对中的每台设备都是其对方的镜像。例如,设备0是设备1的对方,反之亦然,这种关系为设备0中的每个数据分区30中存储的数据(标注为A1、A2、A3或A4),与对方设备1中其对应的数据分区完全相同。同样,设备2和设备3匹配并形成一对,设备4和设备5匹配并形成一对。
图2中的方框32表明,设备出现故障时,就进入一个DO循环,逻辑功能进至方框34。在方框34中,把故障设备对方的内容复制到其他设备的备用区,一个数据分区的内容复制到一个备用分区,下一个数据分区的内容复制到另一个备用分区,依次类推。
图4展示了方框34的处理过程。假定设备0已经出现故障,把其对方(设备1)上每个分区的内容复制到设备2-5的各自备用区。确切地说,如箭头36所指,设备1上第一数据分区中标注为“A1”的内容,复制到设备2的备用区,图4中标注的“A1”指明复制已经完成。同样,如箭头38所指,设备1上第二数据分区中标注为“A2”的内容,复制到设备3的备用区,图4中标注的“A2”指明复制已经完成。此外,箭头40指明,设备1上第三数据分区中标注为“A3”的内容,复制到设备4的备用区,图4中标注的“A3”指明复制已经完成。并且,如箭头42所指,设备1的第四数据分区中标注为“A4”的内容,复制到设备5的备用区,图4中标注的“A4”指明复制已经完成。
方框44表示,由于方框34的操作,系统10仍然保持着对至少再有一次设备故障的容错。更确切地说,参考图5,如果一台故障设备的对方也出现故障(在所示实例中,在设备0出现故障后设备1也出现故障),在出现故障的一对设备中原先存储的数据仍然在其余的设备中可以得到。确切地说,如圆圈所示,在设备2现在填满的备用区仍然可以得到数据A1,在设备3现在填满的备用区仍然可以得到数据A2,在设备4现在填满的备用区仍然可以得到数据A3,在设备5现在填满的备用区仍然可以得到数据A4。
当第二出现故障设备不是与第一出现故障设备配对时,图6显示,在系统10中所有数据仍然可用。确切地说,假定在设备0出现故障后设备2也出现了故障,那么设备2的对方,即设备3存储着设备2上原先存储的所有数据(数据B1、B2、B3和B4),如圆圈所示。同时,在设备0出现故障后,从第一故障设备0的对方已经存储在现在出现故障之设备2的原先空闲的备用区中的数据A1,仍然可以在设备0的对方,即设备1上得到,如圆圈所示。
虽然本文显示和详细介绍的具体的“RAID-1系统中的备用系统和方法”完全能够达到本发明的上述目的,但是应当理解,它是本发明目前的优选实施例,因此代表了本发明概括关注的主旨,本发明的范围完全包括对本领域的技术人员来说显而易见的其他实施例,所以本发明的范围仅仅受限于附带的权利要求书,其中以单数来引用一个元件并不意味着“一个且仅仅一个”,除非明显地如此申明,而是指“一个或多个”。本领域的普通技术人员公知或将要公知的、上述优选实施例中若干元件的所有结构和功能等同部件,都特别在此引用作为参考,并且旨在由本权利要求书所包括。此外,一台设备或方法没有必要涉及本发明寻求解决的个个问题,因为它们都要包含在本发明的权利要求书中。不仅如此,无论在权利要求书中是否明确地陈述了本公开材料中的元件、部件或方法步骤,这些件、部件或方法步骤都不意图奉献给公众。本文的所有权利要求条款都不能在35 U.S.C.‘112第六段的规定下解释,除非该条款明显地使用词组“以下功能的装置”来陈述。
Claims (19)
1.一种包括计算机可用指令的系统,在具有N对存储设备的一个镜像存储系统中,这些指令使一个数字处理装置承担某些方法动作,这些设备匹配成对,这些方法动作包括:
把每台设备的1/(2N-1)分配为一个备用区,其中基本上不存储数据,除非当一台设备出现故障时;
把每个磁盘其余的非备用区划分为(2N-2)个数据分区;以及
当第一设备发生故障时,把发生故障的第一设备的对方的数据分区中的数据复制到其余的无故障设备的相应备用区中。
2.根据权利要求1的系统,其特征在于,这些存储设备建立了一个RAID-1系统。
3.根据权利要求1的系统,其特征在于,这些存储设备被安排在一个刀片上。
4.根据权利要求1的系统,其特征在于,如果在第一设备出现故障之后,其对方也出现故障,在对方上存储的数据仍然可以在无故障设备中得到。
5.根据权利要求1的系统,其特征在于,如果在第一设备出现故障之后,不是该第一设备对方的第二设备也出现了故障,存储在第二设备上的某些数据仍然可以在该第二设备的对方中得到,存储在第二设备上的其余数据仍然可以在该第一设备的对方中得到。
6.根据权利要求1的系统,其特征在于,这些存储设备是硬盘驱动器。
7.根据权利要求1的系统,其特征在于,这些存储设备是HDA。
8.一种数据存储系统,包括:
RAID-1配置中的多台数据存储设备;
在每台设备上分配的一个备用区;
在每台设备上分配的若干数据存储区。
9.根据权利要求8的系统,包括N对数据存储设备,每台设备的备用区占据该设备存储总容量的1/(2N-1)。
10.根据权利要求8的系统,包括N对数据存储设备,每台设备具有(2N-2)个数据存储分区。
11.根据权利要求8的系统,包括当第一设备发生故障时,把该发生故障的第一设备的对方的每个数据存储区中的数据复制到其余的无故障设备的一个相应备用区中。
12.根据权利要求8的系统,其特征在于,这些存储设备被安排在一个刀片上。
13.根据权利要求11的系统,其特征在于,如果在第一设备出现故障之后,其对方也出现故障,在对方上存储的数据仍然可以在无故障设备中得到。
14.根据权利要求11的系统,其特征在于,如果在第一设备出现故障之后,不是该第一设备的对方的第二设备也出现了故障,存储在第二设备上的某些数据仍然可以在该第二设备的对方中得到,存储在第二设备上的其余数据仍然可以在该第一设备的对方中得到。
15.根据权利要求8的系统,其特征在于,这些存储设备是硬盘驱动器和HDA中的至少一种。
16.一种用于操作具有N对数据存储设备的RAID-1数据存储系统的方法,这些数据存储设备相互匹配成对,该方法包括以下动作:
把每台设备的1/(2N-1)分配为一个备用区;
把其余的非备用区划分为(2N-2)个数据分区;以及
当第一设备发生故障时,把数据从其对方复制到不与第一设备配对的设备中。
17.根据权利要求16的方法,包括,当第一设备发生故障时,把发生故障的第一设备的对方的每个数据分区中的数据复制到其余的无故障设备的一个相应备用区中。
18.根据权利要求16的方法,包括支持一个刀片上的这些存储设备。
19.根据权利要求16的方法,其特征在于,这些存储设备是硬盘驱动器。
