Description
Die Erfindung betrifft Polymergemische, die aus einem Polyphcnylcnoxyd und einem Polyamid bestehen.
Die Polyphenylenoxyde bilden eine neue Klasse von Kunststoffen, die sich durch eine einzigartige
Kombination von chemischen, physikalischen und elektrischen Eigenschaften über einen Temperaturbereich
von mehr als 330°C, der sich vom Versprödungspunkt
bei -17O0C bis zur Wärmefestigkeitstemperatur
von 1900C erstreckt, auszeichnen. Auf Grund dieser Kombination von Eigenschaften
eignen sich Polyphenylenoxyde für viele technische Anwendungen. Die Verwendung der Polyphenylenoxyde
wird jedoch etwas beschränkt, weil das Polymere schlechte Fließeigenschaften hat, die Schwierigkeiten
während des Strangpressens verursachen. Die Erfindung ist auf neue Polymergemische mit ausgezeichneten
Fließeigenschaften gerichtet.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind Formmassen, bestehend aus a) einem Polyphenylenoxyd der allgemeinen
Formel
in der R. Wasserstoff, aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffreste
ohne tertiäres «-Kohlenstoffatom oder aliphatische Halogenkohlenwasserstoffreste ohne tertiäres
«-Kohlenstoffatom und mit wenigstens 2 Kohlenstoffatomen zwischen dem Halogenatom und dem
Phcnolkern bedeutet, R' und R" die gleiche Bedeutung wie R haben und zusätzlich Halogen, Arylrcstc,
Kohlcnwasserstoffoxyreste ohne tertiäres «-Kohlenstoffatom oder Halogenkohlenwasserstoffoxyreste
ohne tertiäres «-Kohlenstoffatom und mit wenigstens 2 Kohlenstoffatomen zwischen dem Phenolkern und
dem Halogenatom bedeuten und η wenigstens 100 ist, b) 0,1 bis 24 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das
Gesamtgewicht des Gemisches, eines Polyamids und gegebenenfalls c) üblichen Weichmachern.
Es wurde gefunden, daß die Fließeigenschaften der Polyphenylenoxyde durch Zusatz eines Polyamids
stark verbessert werden können. Dies ist besonders überraschend, da Polyamide in Polyphenylenoxyden
verhältnismäßig unlöslich sind und somit nicht zu erwarten war, daß sie einen Weichmachereffekt ausüben.
Die Polyphenylenoxyde können hergestellt werden durch Umsetzung von Sauerstoff in Gegenwart eines
primären, sekundären oder tertiären Amins' und eines Kupfer(l)- oder Kupfer(ll)-salzes, das in einem
tertiären Aniin löslich ist und im zweiwertigen Zustand vorzuliegen vermag, mit einem Phenol der Strukturformel
Hierin steht X für einen Substituenten, nämlich Wasserstoff, Chlor, Brom und Jod; R, R' und R"
haben die vorstehend angegebene Bedeutung. Von besonderem Interesse ist das aus 2,6-Dimethylphenol
und 2,6-Diphenylphenol erhaltene Polymere. Weitere interessante Polymere sind diejenigen von 2-Methyl-6-äthylphenol
und o-Kresol.
Der Kürze halber werden hier mit dem Ausdruck »Polyphenylenoxyd« nicht nur unsubstituiertes PoIyphenylenoxyd
(hergestellt aus Phenol), sondern auch Polyphenylenoxyde bezeichnet, die verschiedene Substituenten
(z. B. solche, für die R, R' und R" in der obigen Formel steht) enthalten.
Der Ausdruck »Polyamide« bezeichnet im Rahmen dieser Beschreibung Polymere? die durch Kondensation von Diaminen und zweibasischen Säuren und Eigenkondensation von Aminosäuren gebildet werden, sowie Polymere, die durch Polymerisation von Lactamen gebildet werden. Für die Zwecke der Erfindung eignen sich Polyamide, die bei Temperaturen über 177° C schmelzen. Bevorzugt werden Polyamide, die zwischen 190 und 2880C schmelzen. Zu den bevorzugten Polyamiden gehören Polyhexamethylenadipinsäureamid, Polycaprolactam, PoIyhexamethylensebacinsäureamid und deren Copolymere.
Der Ausdruck »Polyamide« bezeichnet im Rahmen dieser Beschreibung Polymere? die durch Kondensation von Diaminen und zweibasischen Säuren und Eigenkondensation von Aminosäuren gebildet werden, sowie Polymere, die durch Polymerisation von Lactamen gebildet werden. Für die Zwecke der Erfindung eignen sich Polyamide, die bei Temperaturen über 177° C schmelzen. Bevorzugt werden Polyamide, die zwischen 190 und 2880C schmelzen. Zu den bevorzugten Polyamiden gehören Polyhexamethylenadipinsäureamid, Polycaprolactam, PoIyhexamethylensebacinsäureamid und deren Copolymere.
Im allgemeinen werden die Fließeigenschaften der Polyphenylenoxyde durch Zusatz von Polyamid in
einer Menge von 0,1 bis 24 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gemisch, verbessert, Es hat sich jedoch gezeigt,
daß bei Überschreitung einer Polyamidkonzentration von 20% eine wesentliche Verschlechterung
der übrigen physikalischen Eigenschaften beginnt. Wenn die Konzentration des Polyamids kleiner
ist als 1%, werden die Fließeigenschaften des PoIyphenylenoxyds nur wenig verbessert. Demgemäß
macht das Polyamid bei einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform I bis 20% des Polymergemisches aus,
und der Rest des Gemisches besteht aus Polyphenylenoxyd.
Die zur Verteilung des Polyamids im Polyphenylenoxyd angewendete Methode ist nicht entscheidend
wichtig, vorausgesetzt, daß das Polyamid gleichmäßig im gesamten Polyphenylenoxyd verteilt wird.
Unvollständige oder ungleichmäßige Verteilung kann die Bildung großer Aggregate verursachen, die die
physikalischen Eigenschaften des Gemisches beeinträchtigen. Das Gemisch kann hergestellt werden,
indem die beiden Polymeren in Form von Granulat oder Pulver in einem Mischer gemischt und anschließend
gepreßt oder stranggepreßt werden. Nach einer anderen einfachen Methode werden die beiden
Polymeren in einem Lösungsmittel gelöst, in dem sie gemeinsam löslich sind, und anschließend als
homogenes Gemisch ausgefällt.
Wenn das Gemisch durch Strangpressen gebildet wird, werden die beiden Polymeren in Form von
Granulat oder Pulver im allgemeinen zuerst durch Wälzen gemischt. Bevorzugt wird ein feines Pulver,
da hierdurch die Homogenität erhöht wird. Das Gemisch der Polymeren wird in den Einfülltrichter
einer Strangpresse gegeben und bei einer Temperatur zwischen 260 und 3430C durch die Düse gepreßt.
Um vollständige Verteilung sicherzustellen, ist es zweckmäßig, den Strang in einer Hackmaschine
zu zerhacken und das Granulat unter den gleichen Bedingungen erneut strangzupressen.

phenylenoxyd werden die Fließeigenschaften des PoIyphenylenoxyds
stark verbessert. Diese Verbesserung der Fließeigenschaften ermöglicht das Strangpressen
von Schläuchen, Stäben, Rohren und anderen Profilen. In den folgenden Beispielen beziehen sich die
Prozentangaben auf das Gewicht.
Polymergemische wurden aus Poly-(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylenoxyd)
einer Grenzviskosität von etwa 0,60 dl/g, gemessen in Chloroform bei 30° C, und
einem Polyhexamethylenadipinsäureamid hergestellt, und zwar ein Gemisch mit 0,1% Polyamid und ein
Gemisch mit 1% Polyamid. Gleichzeitig wurde eine Kontrollprobe hergestellt. Die Bestandteile wurden
in Form von feinem Pulver gemischt und durch eine Strangpresse, die bei etwa 2930C gehalten
wurde, bei einer Schneckendrehzahl von 23,5 UpM gegeben. Als Strangpreßdüse diente eine 2,5-cm-Schlitzdüse
von 0,15 cm Breite. Unmittelbar vor der Düse wurde ein Druckmesser angeordnet, um
den in der Düse entstehenden Druck zu messen. Die folgenden Strangpreßdrucke wurden ermittelt:

Der Strangpreßdruck wird mit steigenden Polyamidkonzentrationen geringer. Bei diesen niedrigen
Konzentrationen ist der Einfluß des Polyamids auf die Zugeigenschaften von Polyphenylenoxyden minimal.
Unter Verwendung der im Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Vorrichtung und in der gleichen Weise wurden
drei weitere Versuche durchgeführt. Die Polymergemische bestanden aus folgenden Komponenten:
Poly-(2,6-dimethyl-l,4-phenylenoxyd) einer Grenzviskosität von etwa 0,60 dl/g, gemessen in Chloroform
bei 300C, und Polycaprolactam. Die Polymergemische
enthielten jeweils 0, 10 und 20% Polyamid. Die Strangpreß-Temperatur betrug etwa 29O0C, die
Schneckendrehzahl 23,5 UpM. Die erhaltenen Ergebnisse sind nachstehend angegeben.

Bei höheren Polyamidkonzentrationen wird der zum Strangpressen der Probe erforderliche Druck
schnell geringer. Gleichzeitig findet jedoch auch eine Verschlechterung der Zugeigenschaften statt, und
bei Polyamidkonzentrationen von mehr als 20% sind die Zugeigenschaften für viele Anwendungszwecke zu schlecht.
Der im Beispiel 2 beschriebene Versuch wurde wiederholt, wobei jedoch die Schneckendrehzahl der
Strangpresse auf 50 UpM erhöht wurde. Der Druck, der bei der polyamidfreien Probe vor der Düse
entstand, betrug wieder 193 kg/cm2. Der Druck
für die Probe mit 10% Polyamid wurde mit 145 kg/cm2
und der Druck für die Probe mit 20% Polyamid mit 67 kg/cm2 ermittelt. Auch hier ist ersichtlich,
daß die Fließeigenschaften von Polyphenylenoxyden, die ein Polyamid enthalten, wesentlich verbessert
werden.
Der im Beispiel 2 beschriebene Versuch wurde wiederholt, wobei jedoch Granulat des Polyamids
an Stelle von Pulver verwendet wurde. Bei der Probe mit 10% Polyamidgranulat entstand ein Strangpreßdruck
von 70 kg/cm2 und bei der Probe mit 20% Polyamid ein Strangpreßdruck von 28 kg/cm2.
Bei der polyamidfreien Vergleichsprobe betrug der
Strangpreßdruck 193 kg/cm2.
Der im Beispiel 4 beschriebene Versuch wurde wiederholt, wobei jedoch die Schneckendrehzahl der
Strangpresse auf 50 UpM erhöht wurde. Der Strangpreßdruck betrug 193 kg/cm2 für das polyamidfreie
Polymere, 134 kg/cm2 bei dem Polymergemisch mit 10% Polyamid und 53 kg/cm2 bei der Probe mit
20% Polyamid.
Das Polymergemisch kann weitere Polymere, z. B. Polystyrole, Polyolefine usw., enthalten. Ferner können
dem Polymergemisch Weichmacher zur weiteren Verbesserung der Fließeigenschaften zugesetzt werden.
Besonders geeignet als Weichmacher für die Polymergemische erwies sich Mineralöl.
Claims (3)
1. Formmasse, bestehend aus a) einem
phenylenoxyd der allgemeinen Formel
phenylenoxyd der allgemeinen Formel
in der R Wasserstoff, aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffreste ohne tertiäres a-Kohlenstoffatom oder
aliphatische Halogenkohlenwasserstoffreste ohne tertiäres a-Kohlenstoffatom und mit wenigstens
2 Kohlenstoffatomen zwischen dem Halogenatom und dem Phenolkern bedeutet, R' und R" die
gleiche Bedeutung wie R haben und zusätzlich Halogen, Arylreste, Kohlenwasserstoffoxyreste
ohne tertiäres a-Kohlenstoffatom oder Halogen-
kohlenwasserstoffoxyreste ohne tertiäres «-Kohlenstoffatom
und mit wenigstens 2 Kohlenstoffatomen zwischen dem Phenolkern und dem Halogenatom
bedeuten, und η wenigstens 100 ist, b) 0,1 bis 24 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht
des Gemisches, eines Polyamids und gegebenenfalls c) üblichen Weichmachern.
2. Formmasse nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Polyamid Polyhexamethylenadipamid
oder Polycaprolactam enthalten ist.
3. Formmasse nach den Ansprüchen 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Formmasse ein
Polyamid mit einem Schmelzpunkt von etwa 177 bis 288° C enthält.
