Abstract
Description
Process for the production of abrasives from a carrier material and abrasive grains bonded thereon. The invention relates to a method of manufacture of abrasives, which are made of a carrier material, which is preferably made of paper, vulcanized fiber, Woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwovens, based on natural or synthetic fibers or The like., plastic or metal foils, and bound on this carrier material Consists of abrasive grains.
Such abrasives have hitherto been produced in that the Carrier material with glue, urea resins or alkyd resins, phenolic resins or polyurethane resins or melamine resins or mixtures with one another as base binders and also as top binders is coated, the abrasive grains are embedded in this binder, and that then, depending on the type of resin used, in the drying or firing tunnel at temperatures is cured from 30 - 1500C for a period of 1 to 24 hours. usually takes place after applying the basic tie and then applying the Abrasive grains first allow the base binder to dry on for temporary fixation the abrasive grains until the size coat has also been applied and hardening takes place. This production method is extremely time consuming, requires on the part of Plant ago high investment and a large space requirement and ultimately brings a considerable amount of energy.
The present invention is based on the object of creating a method for the production of abrasives of the type mentioned at the beginning, which can be carried out very much more quickly and very much cheaper in terms of the system and the energy requirement. The solution according to the invention is essentially seen in the fact that the carrier material is coated with a photopolymerizable synthetic resin or a mixture containing such a synthetic resin and sprinkled with the abrasive grains and is then cured by means of ultraviolet radiation. Photopolymerizable synthetic resins which can be cured by means of ultraviolet radiation are known. They are commonly used to coat chipboard in the furniture industry. Care must be taken that such paints are not provided with dark fillers or pigments, because it has been found that these additives impede the penetration of the ultraviolet rays and therefore do not cure sufficiently. For this reason, synthetic resins of this type have so far not been used in the manufacture of the abrasives in question, as it was considered impossible to achieve a sufficient depth of cure through the abrasive grain layer with the ultraviolet radiation, all the more so than for the most part with dark abrasive grain , such as silicon carbide ', is worked. The present invention is based on the knowledge that contrary to this prejudice by Multiple reflections and reflections of the ultraviolet rays on the abrasive grains can achieve such a good depth effect that the curing of such synthetic resins takes place in a very short time.
The irradiation with ultraviolet rays can also be used on both sides of the Carrier web takes place when this is translucent or temporarily translucent is made. The hardening process of the plastic can be accelerated by that glass body, quartz body or metal powder that does the calculation, multiple reflection and increase the reflection of the rays, added to the abrasive grain or the binder will.
With the method according to the invention, the curing time can be more such Reduce plastic-bonded abrasives to a few minutes. The plant itself can be simplified considerably and the energy requirement is extremely low. A Another particular advantage is that with this type of curing in the In contrast to the long-term hardening in the drying and firing canals that has been customary up to now the carrier material is hardly stressed, in particular not the one that has been customary up to now extreme dehydration occurs, so that the previously necessary and expensive Regeneration of the carrier material in a so-called climatic zone can be eliminated.
According to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention the base binder in the form of a photopolymerizable is applied to the carrier material Synthetic resin or a mixture containing such a synthetic resin is applied. Then the abrasive grains are placed in the base binder and a One-minute curing by means of ultraviolet radiation, at least until the preliminary Fixation of the abrasive grains in the base binder. Thereupon the cover tie is also in the form of a photopolymerizable synthetic resin or a corresponding mixture applied, and there is the final curing by means of ultraviolet radiation for 1 to 2 minutes.
Another embodiment assumes that one up to and including The abrasive produced in the usual way of the basic binder is merely a topcoat obtained on the basis of the photopolymerizable or hardening plastic, d. H. the The carrier material is, for example, hide glue or one of the other binders mentioned coated, sprinkled with abrasive grain, this fixed in a suitable manner and then coated with photopolymerizable binder and ultraviolet radiation from 30 suspended for up to 300 seconds. Such an abrasive is characterized by a particularly high level of flexibility.
As photopolymerizable synthetic resins for the purpose in question unsaturated polyester resins as well as acid-hardening urea resins, but also other synthetic resins, preferably in mixtures with styrene and / or others SolventR as well as modifications of these resins.
Other types of synthetic resin, preferably also polyester resins, however Polyurethanes, too, can be added to achieve the desired elasticization will.
In a first phase, the initial drying or hardening of the base binder can take place be carried out both by means of low-pressure lamps and high-pressure lamps. at The aforementioned base binders on a different basis can be used purely thermally in this 1st phase be worked. The hardening of the size coat for the final fixation of the abrasive grain follows in a second phase.
It should be emphasized that by adding Eomponenten, the give the hardened synthetic resin a particularly high heat resistance, the hardenability is not adversely affected. It should also be emphasized that Hardening also takes place when using dark abrasive grain such as, for example Silicon carbide is worked.
