Abstract

The method involves using a bar code (2) that is printed on a part of the patient's body, preferably the sole of the foot (1). The bar code contains all relevant data regarding personal data and medical treatment. The bar code is read by a hand held scanner (3). The data is transmitted to a computer (5) for output to a display (4). The bar code is compared to the bar code of the required patient to check that the correct patient is being treated, etc. The bar code can be used to obtain patient data, such as case notes, X-rays, test results, etc.

Description

The invention relates to a method for labeling and Identify patients in a hospital.

When admitted to a hospital, documents are issued that accompany the patient to the ward. He can do it himself check that the name on his hospital bed matches his Name matches. The doctor can only determine whether the medical history associated with the bed and the name on it Scroll matches the name at the head of the bed. It it is assumed that the patient is the information chain with regard to the aforementioned assignments, so that the expected identity is assured. In most cases it's not a problem either. Nevertheless, it must be assumed that when the patient is admitted in urgent emergencies is confused, in shock or unconscious and while its manipulation does not contribute to its identification can. This also applies in the case of anesthesia or in the Preparation phase in which a patient is unresponsive. In these cases, one is satisfied with an indirect one Identification by a card that accompanies the patient. Unfortunately, there are confusions in treatments, in the Administration of medication, when assigning findings and even before operations that lead to catastrophic consequences, namely lead to the death of the patient.

The invention aims to reduce the risk of confusion Minimize patients. This is achieved in that a Barcode on a part of the body, especially on the sole of the foot is applied, the personal and possibly medical data includes and that in treatments or organizational measures a target-actual comparison between a for example marked and actually present Patients by reading the barcode with a scanner is carried out. The application of a bar code on one spherical surface is conveniently carried out by Paint spraying. Colors are used that are caused by water and  Soap is not washable. The patient is going through a Spraying the color code z. B. on the sole of the foot neither physically still mentally impaired because the color application at all is not noticeable and because the color code when the Patients outside of bed are not visible to third parties so as not to give the impression of human degradation a number arises.

However, in the hospital bed or by the doctor or nurse can be checked at any time whether the patient actually has the existing data (such as care instructions, findings or Surgical instructions). With help of a Barcode readers can be the name or an identifier of the barcode can be read on the patient. So is an objective Identity check possible at any time even if you are unconscious. With certain treatments, administration of medication or such an identity check must be carried out for the operation. A such is also possible automatically by means of a bar code reader, the one at the foot of a bed or operating table or in the footprint is installed for X-rays. On one The name and, if necessary, personal and medical data related to it.

It is also useful if the patient applied barcode over an address a memory content in a central computer and assigns information to the patient regarding, such as his medical history, findings and stores X-ray images in the memory and when entering the Addresses correct barcodes, e.g. B. for display on one Screen that gets. Based on minimal information from the Barcode, e.g. B. a digit, becomes a memory of a computer addressed, the data such as name, illness, cash register numbers, Therapy, prescriptions, or planned operations including which contains dates and is constantly updated in this regard. An address is called up by reading in the barcode under which the entire database including the X-rays can be obtained. The doctor has an emergency but even in routine cases, all data is always present. Since the  Barcode can be applied directly to the patient Confusion can be excluded.

The drawing shows the sole of the foot 1 of a patient with an example of a bar code 2 applied by color spraying. Other applications are possible, for example by transferring a film in the manner of a decal. Instead of the bar code, other optically readable codes can also be used. Using a bar code reader 3 , the name or special indications are displayed directly on a screen 4 or taken from a data memory 5 with content that can be updated in each case for screen display.
