Abstract

To apply holograms etc. to printing paper and cardboard, at least the varnish layer to hold the microstructure can be set by radiation, esp. by UV. Varnish is set from the matrix side and through the matrix, which is transparent to radiation, through the plate cylinder or matrix carrier. Pref. varnish layer is hardened before the print material in contact with the matrix is removed. On rotary printing, the varnish layer is hardened by radiation while it rotates round the plate cylinder, and through the cylinder wall from an inner radiation source, providing ultraviolet or electron beam heat. Shaping matrix is a single matrix, continuous belt loop, a cylinder or cylinder sleeve. Shaping medium has 0.2-2.0 wt.% of a separator to release the hardened forming medium and prevent clamping of the holographic positive/negative fine structure, with a chemical which has greater adhesion to the print material than to the matrix. Print material is a clear or opaque plastics film or paperweb, or polyester paper, a fabric and pref. a dimensionally stable fine woven plastics. Material can also be a smooth film which acts as a carrier during the shaping and hardening stages to give a self supporting film to hold the microstructure and be rolled. Heat activated separator is applied to the polyester carrier followed by a radiation setting varnish layer. Separator contains wax or Si. After the hologram structure has been shaped, a reflective metallising is applied over the varnish to be covered by a transparent protective layer which is set by pref. UV radiation. Reflective metal layer can be applied before the hologram structure is formed and inserted into a second varnish layer. ADVANTAGE - Cheap and direct application of holograms and other fine structures to paper or cardboard or opaque film, at high printing speeds.

The invention relates to a holographic replication process for molding of holograms and other light diffractive or refractive fine structures (Diffraction gratings) according to the preamble of claim 1, on different Be printing materials, a device for applying a hologram to a loading printing material and the production of associated printing matrices as well as one for them Process suitable printing material,

Holography is a recording and reproduction technique which he does possible to represent objects spatially. Storage medium and information carrier are usually films and records.

A common hologram is either unique or can only be economically used in rela tiv limited quantities, e.g. B. be copied optically like a photo.

It is known to thermoplastic the structure of a surface relief hologram form and then transfer it to different substrates (substrates).

Bisher beinhaltete die Vervielfältigung von Oberflächenrelief- Hologrammen und deren Integration in Printprodukte drei Produktionsstufen:So far, the reproduction of surface relief holograms and has included their integration into print products three stages of production:

The holographic image is usually shown as a surface relief structure in a carrier material is molded and only after further equipping with egg nem glue or adhesion promoter in a third process step on the printing transfer fabric.

It is molded from stamps, tapes or rollers by means of pressure and Temperature in thermoplastic plastic surfaces.

Such an embossed hologram has so far become two products after molding variants processed; namely to so-called seal holograms or Self-adhesive holograms.

Both product variants are preliminary products, which only become available in the next processing or assembly in an additional step on the Be print material can be applied. Direct thermoplastic embossing in Substrates without subsequent transfer steps are possible, as is the case with the DE-A 37 44 650 of the inventor is known.

A process for producing holograms is usually carried out as follows guided:

In the preliminary stage, the so-called mastering, the original object is laser-lighted Laser transmission hologram created as a three-dimensional image of the object. This master hologram, which covers the entire surface in an interference pattern Chen information of the object has been stored, but is only under laser light traditional.

Of the laser transmission hologram, the master, one with a normal, ge Directed white light made a copy that can be viewed. This type of hologram turns white called light transmission hologram.

Likewise, holographic using laser light or mechanically using engraving other diffraction gratings, which are decorative or produce technically / scientifically applicable lighting effects.

To make an impressionable for the embossing process, duplication or replication To obtain a surface relief structure, this master hologram or Beu grid in a plate coated with photoresist or in another surface copied materials forming the relief of chel

Depending on the partial intensity distribution during exposure, z. B. the aufgetra gene photoresist in the negative process more or less hardened or in posi tive process more or less solved. Through the subsequent development becomes a surface corresponding to the respective networking or resolution Delivery structure exposed. On this and on the surface structure that was later embossed the light is diffracted to form an image.

The light diffractive and refractive surface relief structures can also mechanically generated, d. H. cut or engraved or laser engraved the. The resolution or line width of mechanically generated diffraction gratings is off depending on the technical processes chosen for their production.

A surface relief hologram has a fine structure of approximately 0.2 to 1 µm in height distinguished and a resolution of 800 to 1800 lines per millimeter.

In order to be able to electrogalvanically mold the subsequent embossing die, the Surface of the photoresist made electrically conductive. This is done by chemi Metallization using nickel or silver reduction processes. It can too Vacuum coatings or sputtering can be carried out.

The photoresist is applied in galvanic nickel sulfamate baths via positive / Ne the so-called family. So from the photoresist in pulled the so-called production shim in nickel as an embossing die. The family generated here consists of great grandmothers, grandmothers, various mothers and of which any number of subsidiaries, the production shims (embossing dies).

The production matrices produced by the hologram are as required between 50 and 100 µm and more thick and can be embossed in thermoplastic procedures are reproduced. For special purposes, it is advisable to use thicker ones Manufacture stamping plates and stamps, endless belt loops or cylinders.

Using certain pressures and temperatures, the surface surface structure of the embossing die in thermo-plastically deformable surfaces or Embossed layers of paint. Thereby is the material and motive-appropriate coordination the 3 embossing parameters of pressure, temperature and speed are crucial Meaning = the surface heating of the materials to be embossed must be very ge be checked precisely. The ideal embossing temperature is in a certain range between softening point and melting point of the material.

Before embossing, the surface to be embossed can already be metallized. This he particularly enables the optical control (quality control) of the embossing result during embossing. Furthermore, the metallization prevents the adhesive from sticking Substrate on the matrix.

So far, two materials and systems have been used:

A. Selbstklebende ProdukteA. Self-adhesive products

It was used in foils or in coextruded foils or in thermoplastic lacquer systems me embossed, which on thermally dimensionally stable substrates (carriers), such. B. Po polyester films were applied. As a rule, these systems became self-adhesive equipped or laminated on various supports.

The typical layer structure of a usual holographic or diffractive self Adhesive film essentially consists of:

  • 1. Polyestersubstrat (Träger) 50 bis 100 µm stark,1. polyester substrate (carrier) 50 to 100 microns thick,
  • 2. Haftvermittler optional (Primer)2. Adhesion promoter optional (primer)
    oder alternativ statt 1 + 2 + 3 nur:
    3. lacquer layer, thermoplastic, as a hologram support, 0.9 to 2.5 µm thick or approx. 1.2-3.5 g / sqm,
    or alternatively instead of 1 + 2 + 3 only:
  • 4. PVC bzw. Vinylfolie oder andere thermoplastisch verformbare Folien, 50 bis 100 µm und stärker;
    und sodann:
    4. PVC or vinyl film or other thermoplastically deformable films, 50 to 100 microns and thicker;
    and then:
Metallization approximately 300 angstroms strong, for a good optical density of 1.8-2
  • 6. Akrylkleber 4-10 g/qm6. Acrylic adhesive 4-10 g / qm
  • 7. Siliconschutzpapier z. B. 50 g / sqm for labels (roll goods) or z. B. 90 g / sqm for stickers (stay flat version).

When applying a self-adhesive hologram, the hologram is put together glued to a base with the carrier film. The 50th µm and thicker carrier film after embossing on the metallized side with a provided self-adhesive coating and coated with a silicone protective paper covers which is pulled off before or during application.

When embossing holograms in heat sealing foil, e.g. B. the lacquer layer, which contains the embossed holographic fine structure, then in another Production step by means of heat-activated heat seal adhesive on the printing substrate transferred.

Der typische Schichtaufbau einer üblichen Heißsiegelfolie besteht dabei im wesentli chen aus:The typical layer structure of a conventional heat seal film consists essentially choose from:

  • 1. Polyestersubstrat (Träger), 12 bis 25 µm stark.1. Polyester substrate (carrier), 12 to 25 microns thick.
  • 2. Trennschicht 0,5-2 g/qm2nd separation layer 0.5-2 g / qm
  • 3. eventuell eine klare oder farbige Decklackschicht 0.5-1.5 g/qm3. possibly a clear or colored top coat layer 0.5-1.5 g / qm
  • 4. eine oder mehrere Lack- oder Farblackschichten als eigentlicher Hologramm träger, 0,9 bis 2,5 stark, ca. 1,1-3,25 g/qm,4. one or more layers of lacquer or colored lacquer as the actual hologram sluggish, 0.9 to 2.5 strong, approx.1.1-3.25 g / sqm,
Metallization approximately 300 angstroms for good optical density of 1.8-2
  • 6. Heißsiegelkleber 0,7-2,5 g/qm.6.Heat seal adhesive 0.7-2.5 g / qm.

As a rule, the metallization takes place before the embossing, but can also follow done eating.

The structure-absorbing varnish used is usually optically clear and ther plastically deformable. Its softening point or the glass transition temperature is higher than the melting point of the later applied to the metallization,  heat-activated heat seal adhesive. This heat seal adhesive can therefore only after embossing are applied to the embossed metal side of the heat seal film.

The holograms or diffraction gratings located in the varnish of the heat seal foil which is now applied to the substrate by means of certain contact pressures and temperatures transfer.

By the heat transferred with a heated pressure plate or roller the heat seal adhesive and the release layer are activated.

Applying a certain pressure, the lacquer layer of the film is included connected to the substrate. After a certain dwell time, the Pulled polyester film from the new composite.

Even if the thermoplastic embossing process describes itself as relatively quick can be net, e.g. B. between 2500 and 25000 cycles per hour, provides but then the additional necessary application on the Pro to be decorated product, especially in the heat sealing process, a temporal and calculated Bottleneck.

The sealing speed with a heat seal flat press is 800 to 2200 Cycles per hour. The sealing speed with a heat sealing cylinder machine ne is 1500 to 3000 cycles per hour.

A clocked lifting or coding press can handle small formats up to 6000 Get clocks (hologram applications) per hour.

The sealing speed is limited by the fact that the embossed material is reached before it is reached perfect adhesion, a certain temperature and a certain dwell time time required on the substrate.

In addition, there is the risk of blistering due to outgassing of the printing material or the adhesive, which is particularly noticeable in flat presses.

Nachteile dieses Verfahrens liegen also insbesondere in:
Disadvantages of this method are therefore in particular:
additional material / cost for the heat seal film itself,
secondly after finishing with embossing with heat seal adhesive and
thirdly, in the additional heat sealing process necessary for the transmission of the hologram.

The known methods described above are particularly useful for Berück consideration of the high number of copies that is common in today's communication technology len or production speeds and the need for a reasonable Cost-benefit ratio too expensive.

The invention has for its object a method for direct printing a printing material, especially paper, cardboard and opaque films with hologram Men or other fine structures indicate that a high printing speed enables at low cost.

The invention is also based on the object, one for the purposes of the invention suitable printing material or its structure.

Furthermore, the invention has for its object a device for Abfor and for direct application of a hologram to a printing material admit.

Abformmatrizen anzugeben. Finally, the invention is based on the object, method and device to specify conditions for the production of suitable printing or impression matrices.

These tasks are accomplished by the He indicated in claims 1, 8, and 18 finding solved. Advantageous developments of the invention are in the subclaims specified.

Durch die Erfindung ergeben sich insbesondere folgende Vorteile:The following advantages result in particular from the invention:

  • 1. die Einsparung der bisher nach dem Prägen notwendigen Kleberbeschichtung der Hologramme, 1. the saving of the adhesive coating previously required after embossing the holograms,
Be druckstoff.2. the saving of the application required after the adhesive coating step, d. H. the transfer of the finished embossed hologram to the loading printing material.

The method according to the invention enables the direct printing of paper, card ton and other substrates without the use of an intermediate carrier and oh ne execution of intermediate steps.

Previously with heat seal holograms or self-adhesive holograms required materials and processing stages can by the invention omitted.

The invention permits holographic mass reproduction in accordance with the print media information or diffraction grating at low cost and significantly increased production speeds.

The method according to the invention of the UV-curing impression of holograms and other diffraction gratings by means of radiation through a UV-transparent Printing cylinders and through a UV-permeable matrix offers great quali tative, technical and economic advantages over known thermoplastic processes and especially compared to other radiation-curing processes, such as B. the very process-intensive and hardware-consuming electron beam hardening.

Especially when molding holographic fine structures and other Beu grid on largely UV-opaque substrates such as paper or card The present invention offers clay or opaque foils, plastic papers and fabrics This is a great advantage because the mold is now pressed through the cylinder and the die medium hardened by means of UV radiation in contact with the forme cylinder can be.

Until now, it was only possible with UV-opaque substrates using thermo plastic impression to work or by means of the penetrating the paper Electron beam curing from the substrate side or the carrier film side acting to harden the impression medium.

According to the invention, the molding and hardening takes place in particular in the rotary ver drive through UV radiation from the die side through a UV transparent Die through and through a likewise UV-transparent form cylinder wall by means of a UV radiation source arranged inside the cylinder.

According to the invention, the impression and hardening can also be carried out in a single step process (Step-and-repeat). In contrast to the rotation, this becomes a flat one Die and a flat die support plate used, both of which are also Are UV-transparent.

Folgende Produktformen sind z. B. mittels des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens mit derselben maschinellen Grundkonstruktion herstellbar:The following product forms are e.g. B. by means of the method according to the invention same basic machine construction can be produced:

Paper and cardboard and other largely UV-impermeable substrates or plastic papers, e.g. B. so-called PE papers / polyester papers. The inexpensive paper version is preferably processed into labels, Gift and wrapping paper, cardboard boxes and packaging, decorative paper or wallpaper.
Self-supporting plastic films, transparent or opaque, in thicknesses from 15 to 150 µm and more. This product form can be equipped or partially self-adhesive Laminates processed. Solid substrates can also use tissue find. The transparent product form is also called Trans without the metallization mission diffraction or diffraction grating for technical, scientific and optical purposes as well as for lighting and show effects.
3. Film multilayer systems on transparent or opaque film, in which the molding UV-curing medium remains on a carrier film (substrate) after curing and the bond can be reinforced by an additional adhesion promoter (primer) applied to the substrate. The product forms 2 and 3 are predominantly and the product form 1 is partially self-adhesive and processed into decorative foils as sheets or rolls or punched out of them and cut into holographic or diffractive products such as pictures, labels, stickers, marking and adhesive tapes.
Heat sealing films and other transfer films in which there is a gap between the um and the carrier film instead of the adhesion promoter in this case a separating layer (Release Coating) was applied to the carrier film in advance. This interface has a lower tactility than that after the UV-curing molding medium Metallization on the molding medium and the metal layer applied heat seal glue or transfer glue to the printing material, which is used to remove the very thin motif-bearing molded layer from the carrier and for an indissoluble connection this very thin motif-bearing molded layer with the new printing material.
  • 5. Textil, Gewebe, dimensionsstabile Feingewebe (z. Textiles, fabrics, dimensionally stable fine fabrics (e.g. microfibers, nylon, poly esters) for technical and security applications, Fashion and decoration. With this product form, a relatively strong (Swiss ren) layer of soft / elastic curing primer worked to one hand to maintain the flexible textile character and on the other hand to have a smooth surface to ensure the recording of the holographic fine structure.

Since it is preferred to precede a radiation source inside the impression cylinder hen, it is necessary for this, the printing cylinder and possibly its carrier training radiation-transparent.

The impression matrix can be manufactured as a cylindrical sleeve or an endless belt loop (molded), and or glued or ultrasonically welded.

In a preferred method, the transparent, UV-transparent Ab Form matrices using optically clear liquid glue or using optically clear trans fixed on the radiation-permeable printing cylinder.

Experience has shown that matrices should be 50 µm thick as foils or wrapping plates up to 250 µm can be manufactured.

According to another preferred method, the cylinder sleeve or band first grind yourself on the inside of a structure-bearing negative form cylinder poured.

This impression can be made using infrared-curing, chemically curing (2 components ten) or preferably by means of UV-curing media. The curing he follows by irradiation from inside the negative cylinder.

To ensure a uniform wall thickness and smoothness of the inner surface of the invention to ensure the matrix to be created, the shape-receiving medium, which forms the die as a sleeve or ribbon loop after forming, in Centrifugal process, d. H. by means of rotation of the negative form cylinder will.

The layer thickness of the impression medium (the later matrix) is Further processing requirements between 50 and 250 µm or more.

The special feature of the matrix or the impression medium is its Transparency for UV radiation.

The structure to be molded is pre-coated in foils or thin plates Surface relief hologram molded on the inside of the Nega tiv-form cylinder can be fixed.

The negative form cylinder can consist of at least two or more cylinder cheeks (Partial cylinders) exist, which after the hardening of the matrix forming Positive sleeve can be opened (opened) for molding.

However, the positive sleeve can also be removed from the inside by means of a vacuum suction device surface of the vacuum cylinder can be removed.

To make molding easier and to clamp the fine structures to avoid, 0.2 to 2 percent by weight release agent, eg. B. hydroxylated polysiloxanes, type Q4-3667 from Dow Corning, U.S.A. or Pura additive 6845 or 6890 from Pura International, Germany, can be added to the impression medium.

B. in Stickstoff vorübergehend geschrumpft. The cylinder sleeve (die) produced in this way is then placed on the impression cylinder shrunk, or the pressure cylinder is pushed through before pushing on the sleeve Cooling z. B. temporarily shrunk in nitrogen. After reaching again  the normal temperature and thus renewed cylinder expansion, the sleeve has a tight fit. On the other hand, the impression cylinder expands during the printing process due to partial absorption of UV radiation and conversion into heat, that the sleeve has a tight fit. And finally, who can also glue it the.

The cylinder sleeve (die) can also be made in a larger circumference so that it forms an endless loop. This is around the impression cylinder and led around an additional roller, by means of which for an adjustable web chip of the endless loop.

An essential criterion when determining the outer circumference of the system Printing cylinder / sleeve or the belt loop / printing cylinder / tensioning roller system it should be to choose a measure that is simple or multiple the printed image length or the cylinder circumference of the various rotary adapters processing machines in the graphic arts industry. This can e.g. B. Rotary printing machines or rotary punching machines, laminating machines or Combinations of the machines mentioned.

The usual print image lengths or roll developments are mostly with the Single or multiple of the 12-inch system or the 24-inch system.

The cylinder sleeve (die) can, however, as described below, directly are molded on the positive cylinder: In this further preferred process Ren is the smooth impression cylinder in the original negative forme cylinder placed concentrically.

The space between the inner wall of the negative form cylinder and the surface of the printing cylinder corresponds to the wall thickness of it witnessed cylinder sleeve.

In order to ensure a constant wall thickness of the impression medium, who that of the negative form cylinder and the positive cylinder concentrically on one common positioned the same axis.

The sum of the double sleeve wall thickness plus the net diameter of the Printing cylinder corresponds to the gross diameter of the positive forme cylinder, which with multiplies the desired repeat length (processing) or printed image length results.

The UV curing of the die is preferably carried out by radiation from the Inside of the UV-permeable positive cylinder. When generating the cylin derhülse (die) according to this method, the main advantage is that the sleeve thus immediately and completely seamlessly on the impression cylinder is brought, and can remain there.

After printing, however, these sleeves produced according to the invention are very easy to remove and the cylinder can be replaced with another sleeve se be provided, since they are essentially made of low strength plastic hen.

The previously described, as wrapping plates on the Zylin, are just as easy remove the attached dies, after which the impression cylinder again with others Matrices can be equipped.

For a firmer grip of the substrates on the cylinder during wrapping the same through the web of the substrate and thus during the impression To achieve this, an additional flexible belt loop can be inserted into the Roller system can be used.

The web tension of this belt loop can e.g. B. by means of spindles in Ku tension roller mounted on the lissenstones can be regulated.

The radiation angle of the UV radiation source arranged in the impression cylinder can be varied using overlapping round and concentrically arranged screens will. Likewise, the UV radiation can also come from in the forme cylinder orderly adjustable concave mirror in axis length more or less focus be settled.

Es zeigen: The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments. Show it:

Fig. 1 shows the structure of an embossing film in the so-called "heat seal technology" according to the prior art. Such a film is produced in such a way that a thin wax- or silicone-containing separating layer ( 2 ) is applied to a polyester web ( 1 ) of about 12 to 25 µm thick, on which then a lacquer layer ( 3 ) from 0.9 to 2.5 µm (or 1.1-3.25 g / qm) and then again a 0.05 to 0.2 µm thick metallic reflection layer ( 4 ), such as. B. aluminum is applied. 300 angstroms gives a good optical density of 1.8-2.

The hologram is embossed as a so-called embossing hologram, which is usually present as a relief structure in an embossing die made of nickel, through the metallization ( 4 ) in the lacquer layer ( 3 ).

A temperature-activatable adhesive ( 5 ) (hot-melt adhesive), 0.7 g / m 2, is then applied by means of which the information-carrying lacquer layer is transferred to the printing material and fixed there.

To apply the "heat seal hologram", the film thus produced is exposed to heat, e.g. B. 110 ° C to 130 ° C, and pressure, e.g. B. 50-150 kp / cm and more with a substrate, e.g. B. paper or cardboard, brought into intimate contact with the hot-melt adhesive ( 5 ) melts and the separating layer ( 2 ) is activated, resulting in a permanent connection of the lacquer / metallization layer ( 3/4 ) with the substrate.

Finally, the polyester film ( 1 ) is separated at the separating layer ( 2 ), so that only the varnish layer ( 3 ), the metallization ( 4 ) and the hot-melt adhesive ( 5 ) remain on the printing material.

It should be noted that in this variant of the method, the embossing of the hologram is carried out from the side of the metallization ( 4 ), and therefore the embossing plate can be produced in the correct orientation so that the hologram can be viewed later through the clear lacquer layer ( 3 ) is seen correctly.

Fig. 2 shows the structure of a hologram on a carrier ( 6 ), which was applied by the method of DE A 37 44 650. The carrier ( 6 ) is paper or cardboard. But it can also be clear or opaque plastic or another carrier.

For a complete expression and thus good modulation and diffraction Achieving efficiency of the hologram to be applied is a high surface area smoothness of the wearer desirable.

If this is not the case, it leads to "orange peel" when embossing or taking an impression like "distributions of pronounced and not pronounced areas as well as matt, blurred and diffusely reflective surface and poor overall brightness.

Unevenness in the density and in the thickness of the printing material were up to compensated to a certain extent by means of flexible counter pressure rollers. In the case could the back pressure rollers or molds z. B. silicone rubber or have similar coatings. Experience has shown that these should be a Sho have a hardness of 60 to 90.

So-called "art paper and cardboard boxes" on the market can e.g. B. as Carrier may be suitable for the purposes of the invention, since these are the bottom line of the Surface have a pre-compressed "core" and a good surface kitchen quality due to a machine-coated or cast-coated Coating.

The substrate ( 6 ) should preferably have a machine-coated or cast-coated surface ( 10 ) as a background for the impression lacquer ( 7 ) to be applied and the smoothing pre-lacquer to be applied, in order to close the pores and to improve the surface quality. to optimize the smoothness and roughness.

Any necessary pre-smoothing of the surface takes place during curing of the primer by molding a polished cylinder or a smooth one Endless belt loop or from a smooth cover film, which after curing is withdrawn again.

The radiation-curing impression lacquer ( 7 ) is preferably applied with a thickness of 1.5 to 2 μm to the smooth or pre-hardened surface of the support ( 6 ) or the line ( 10 ). The line ( 10 ) possibly applied to the carrier ( 6 ) and the possibly applied pre-lacquer effectively prevent the lacquer from striking away in the carrier ( 6 ) and bring about an optimally flat surface of the carrier.

Because of the extreme delicacy of the structures to be embossed with an embossing depth between 200 nm to 1000 nm and a resolution between 800 to 1800 lines per millimeter it is absolutely necessary with the thickness of the radiation-curing ab to compensate for any remaining surface irregularities. Each depending on the surface structure of the substrate or depending on the use of pre-varnish The thickness of the embossing lacquer layer can range from 2 g up to 10 g / qm or up to 20 g / sqm. Experience has shown that paint layers of 1.5 to 15 µm are used Thickness applied depending on the surface condition.

A mirror-like flat surface of a pre-lacquer layer is preferably on egg achieved in a polished cylinder during curing or drying.

The impression method according to the invention is based on the impression and curing coating and fine structures in contact with the matrix, belt loop, Cylinder sleeve or roller, preferably using radiation-curing lacquers find.

The curing or crosslinking can be done by ultraviolet or electrons radiation curing can be triggered and carried out.

Reflektion aufweist. Finally, a 20 to 200 nm thick tallization ( 8 ), z. As aluminum, applied, which causes the reflection of the viewing light of the hologram and at a thickness of z. B. 300 angstroms has a good optical density or reflection.

The metallization is preferably carried out after the hologram structure has been molded ren upset.

When using a smoothing primer or one that is already mirror-smooth Surface of the substrate, e.g. B. in, plastic films, the metallization can also be applied to the primer.

The embossing is done with opaque, i.e. H. opaque substrates so that the Embossing stamp must be prepared upside down.

For later protection of the hologram surface, a protective varnish ( 9 ) or another transparent, possibly colored protective layer can then be applied to the metallization layer ( 8 ).

The method according to the invention results in a hologram carrier which is in un indirect process steps is produced.

In contrast to the prior art, in which the embossing is subsequently carried out to be transmitted carrier can be done by the inventive method a direct impression in the substrate. This results in a very high cost savings and a significant acceleration in printing operation.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the varnish ( 7 ) consists of one or two different layers, the first varnish layer applied to the printing material or to the cast layer ( 10 ) being intended to provide a mirror-like surface texture. The sole or the second lacquer layer carries the information.

The metallization ( 8 ) is preferably evaporated onto the lacquer layer, but it can also in other ways, for. B. by an indirect transfer metallization, if the hologram structure is transferred after the metallization.

In addition to the task of causing the reflection of light, the previous metallization ( 8 ) has the advantage of allowing immediate optical quality control of the embossing result after inspection or measurement of the diffraction efficiency or reflection during the impression.

In an executed plant with the method according to the invention between 5000 to 25000 prints per hour and more can be achieved.

Fig. 3 shows an enlarged sectional view between the actual layers carrying the hologram. The hatched area corresponds to the shape depth of the relief structure of the hologram. It can be seen that the deepest point of the impression ends within the lacquer layer ( 7 ). The lacquer layer ( 7 ) is therefore to be selected in a thickness such that the molded relief structure does not penetrate into the carrier.

The lacquer layer ( 7 ) is also to be chosen so strongly that a compensation of remaining unevenness of the support ( 6 ) or the surface coating ( 10 ) is still possible.

In addition to holograms, other light diffractive structures and so-called Beu supply grating or diffraction grating, the z. B. mechanically or by laser engraving cut and engraved.

With a sufficiently high surface quality, which essentially depends on the layer construction of the substrate is determined, results from the Ver described here drive the possibility of direct mass replication at much less  Costs than the three-step impression process described above, Adhesive coating and application on the substrate or after the direct but hardware-intensive electron beam hardening processes.

Fig. 4 shows a schematic view of a device for replication and. simultaneous application of a hologram on a substrate.

On a roller ( 11 ) is a uniform surface quality Be printing material is available, which is drawn off via a pair of rollers ( 16 , 17 ). The loading material is passed over a further pair of rollers ( 22 , 23 ) over the printing cylinder ( 14 ), which is wrapped around about 180 ° or less. Subsequently, the printing material is fed via a pair of rollers ( 30 , 31 ), another pair of rollers ( 24 , 25 ) and between two rollers ( 18 , 19 ) to a take-up roll ( 13 ).

If a carrier material is used, this can be passed as a web ( 37 ) together with the printing material through the application device and wound up over the roller pairs ( 26 , 27 ) and between two rollers ( 21 , 22 ) onto the roller ze ( 12 ) .

To increase the pressure of the printing material on the printing cylinder hen it can be vorgese that a ribbon loop ( 15 ) is guided together with the printing material over the surface of the printing cylinder ( 14 ). The belt loop revolves around the rollers ( 23 , 30 , 29 , and 28) and, if necessary, can also be guided under a tension roller ( 36 ), which is used to control the web tension.

Via a coating unit ( 34 ) with an application roller ( 35 ), a layer of lacquer is applied to the printing cylinder or optionally to roller ( 23 ) on the web, which then runs in when the printing cylinder rotates between roller ( 23 ) and the printing cylinder and printing material.

The pressure cylinder ( 14 ) is designed as a quartz or acrylic glass cylinder (PMMA) and has a radiation source ( 33 ), in particular a UV light source, on the inside. A parabolic concave mirror ( 39 ) and diaphragms ( 38 ) are provided for directional light emission, which are adjustable and set the range of influence of the UV light on the printing material guided over the printing cylinder.

When focusing the radiation on a more or less wide strip or The wrap angle of the substrate around the printing cylinder can be slotted be reduced accordingly.

The pressure cylinder interior is provided with a ventilation device, which on the one hand supplies cooling air and on the other hand provides for ozone extraction.

To achieve higher efficiency, you can use a water-cooled Burner tube to be worked.

Since the varnish applied via the application roller ( 35 ) is radiation-curable, it hardens during the circulation of the printing material via the printing cylinder to such an extent that it can be passed easily over further rollers and can be wound up on the take-up roll ( 13 ) or ( 12 ) is without affecting the surface structure.

Instead of a UV light source, an electron beam source can also be used suitable paint system can be used. However, the procedure is common that a relatively thin coating system is applied to the substrate, this already during the impression on the matrix without significant pressure is curable. This is particularly the case when using a UV light source achieved that the pressure cylinder and the Matri invention ze are designed to be UV-transparent, so that curing from the inside of the printing cylinder can take place.

Fig. 5 shows an alternative device according to FIG. 4 in which a shape-bearing endless belt loop is used instead of a pressure cylinder.

The endless belt loop ( 40 ) can record several microstructures or printed image lengths in succession. It is guided over the pressure cylinder ( 14 ) and a deflection roller ( 41 ). This facility allows a faster change of matrices in the printing unit. In addition, this variant can be easily adapted to different print image lengths without changing the printing cylinder.

Otherwise, the device from FIG. 5 corresponds to the device from FIG. 4.

Fig. 6 shows a device consisting of several printing units. The individual printing units essentially correspond to the devices of FIG. 4 or 5. Here, in a first printing unit, a pre-varnish is applied to the printing material in order to smooth it sufficiently on its surface. The applied primer can also be cured by UV radiation.

The actual application of the microstructure to the printing material takes place on the main printing unit ( 46 ). If desired, a second printing unit ( 47 ) can be connected, which is arranged in the opposite orientation to the main printing unit, thereby allowing printing on the back of the printing material.

49) zugeordnet. To keep the band tension of the printing material constant and to enable corrections to the longitudinal register in the web, dancer rollers ( 42 , 45 ) are provided. An order unit ( 34 , 48 or 49 ) is assigned to each printing unit.

Fig. 7 shows schematically the process for producing a printing cylinder.

At the bottom is the glass substrate ( 54 ) with the exposed and developed photoresist layer ( 53 ), which contains the surface structure hologram. The UV-curing molding medium ( 52 ) is applied to the holographically structured photoresist layer ( 53 ).

This is done by spray casting (nozzle application device, a series of Proportioning nozzles with defined nozzle diameters move linearly over the Plate), by dipping, by spiral application or pouring and spinning.

The layer thickness should be at least 2 µm and thicker.

A UV-transparent acrylic sheet or acrylic plate (PMMA) is placed on the impression medium in intimate contact as the later carrier of the impression medium ( 51 ).

This sheet or film must be flexible to make it easier to peel off after it is out to allow hardening and to further assembly and reproduction steps facilitate.

A UV-transparent quartz glass plate ( 50 ) is also positioned on the acrylic film ( 51 ) in order to ensure absolute flatness and intimate contact of the acrylic film ( 54 ) with the impression medium ( 52 ) by means of uniform pressure.

This molding or copying process is preferably carried out in a vacuum copier men to ensure optimal contact of the copy layer and Avoid air pockets.

After copying with UV exposure, the acrylic film is removed from the photo resist resolved and either for the purpose of multiple-use copies (going up) copied repeatedly or fitted into the negative form cylinder.

This sandwich of acrylic and Abformmedium will now tivaufnahme in the interior of a Nega (55) used, preferably from about four joints (56 to 58) is forming jaws connected with each other. After closing the negative mold receptacle ( 55 ), the impression medium is located as an "inner coating" within the hollow cylinder. Now a quartz glass cylinder ( 54 ) is inserted concentrically into the negative mold holder ( 55 ). The corresponding method step is shown in Fig. 7d.

Fig. 7e shows the apparatus for manufacturing the pressure roller. In the space between the glass cylinder ( 54 ) and photoresist ( 52 ) in a tank ( 59 ) provided enamel is introduced via pipes ( 60 ). Filling the inter mediate space and degassing is supported by a connected vacuum ( 61 ). The impression lacquer is cured by means of UV light, a corresponding light source being provided within the glass cylinder ( 54 ).

After the impression lacquer has hardened, the negative mold holder can be opened and the printing cylinder ( 62 ) can be removed. This then carries on its surface the microstructure generated via the photoresist ( 52 ).

After the printing cylinder ( 62 ) has been inserted into a printing unit, the printing material can actually be printed.
