Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for addressing newspapers, magazines and similar printed products according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention also relates to a shipping line with such a device.
- Such a device is, for example, from a publication by A.B. Dick Company, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA, has become known under the fantasy name "Videojet-mailer".
- the print products to be addressed are continuously conveyed past in a more or less free edition on a conveyor belt and at intervals from one another under the downward-facing spray heads of the inkjet recorder.
- the signal which triggers the writing process loses all meaning after the triggering of the writing process, because the relative position of the printed product to the conveying device (the printed product lies - as already mentioned - in free circulation on a conveyor belt) is indefinite or at least only determined at the moment . Accordingly, the use of this signal is limited only to the writing process.
- a shipping line with the proposed device is defined in claim 3.
- a single conveyor 11 can be seen (as described in CH-PS 592 562 or in US Pat. No. 3,955,667), which is guided at a distance from one another, not shown, in a hollow rail 12 Traction device attached grippers 13 is equipped.
- Each of the grippers 13 grips the leading edge of a printed product, here the leading fold of a newspaper 14, and moves it in the direction of the arrow 15.
- the trailing edges of the newspapers 14 slide over slide rails 16.
- the formation in which the newspapers 14 are conveyed is thus a fanned out scale formation S, in which the so-called “scale distance”, ie the distance between successive leading edges, in very small tolerances fluctuates and remains the same over the entire conveying path of the individual conveyor 11.
- a set of spray heads 17 of an ink jet writing device, designated as a whole by 18, is arranged under the slide rails 16.
- the spray heads 17 are directed onto the scale formation S from below.
- Each of the spray heads 17 (3 of which are shown) is assigned to one of the lines of the address to be written on the newspapers 14.
- the spray heads 17 are therefore also offset from one another in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the drawing.
- the inkjet writing device 18 (inkjet printer) known as A. video. Dick Company, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA.
- This comprises a processing unit 19 for the ink to be sprayed, from which a pressure line 20 extends to each of the spray heads 17, while a return line 21 leads from each back to the unit 19.
- the unit 19 ensures that each of the spray heads 17 is supplied with an ink stream with a pressure which is kept constant in an adjustable manner.
- Each spray head 17 is coupled to a control unit 23 via a set of control lines 22 for dividing the supplied ink stream into a dense sequence of ink droplets (in the present case of 66,000 droplets per second) and for charging these droplets and for deflecting them in the desired direction .
- This control unit is via a data channel 24 from the output of a microcomputer or computer 25 activated, in this case, for example, model PDP 11/03 from Digital Equipment Corporation.
- the computer 25 receives on the one hand the data to be processed by it via a data channel 26 from an external address memory 27 in which, for example, the addresses to be written are stored on magnetic tape.
- the computer 25 is not activated here by the presence or arrival of a newspaper 14 in the area of the spray heads 17. Rather, a clock generator 28, which is driven by the individual conveyor 11 via a chain wheel 29, is provided, which is combined with a tachometer generator 30 and which outputs a signal to the computer 25 via a signal line 31 for each gripper 13 arriving. Since it cannot be ruled out with the individual conveyor 11 that a gripper 13 remains empty from time to time, for example because a defective specimen has been removed beforehand, the watchdog 28 is assigned a watchdog 32 which responds to empty grippers (for example a work contact actuated by the printed product 14) , which prevents the computer 25 from being activated by the signal supplied by the clock generator 28.
- a clock generator 28 which is driven by the individual conveyor 11 via a chain wheel 29, is provided, which is combined with a tachometer generator 30 and which outputs a signal to the computer 25 via a signal line 31 for each gripper 13 arriving. Since it cannot be ruled out with the individual conveyor 11 that
- the monitor 32 is a make contact, it is sufficient that its output signal is first fed to a coincidence circuit (for example to an AND gate 34) via a further signal line 33 in the computer 25. This ensures that the writing process is only triggered when the grippers 13 actually carry a printed product.
- a coincidence circuit for example to an AND gate 34
- the address-specific control signal initiated by the gripper 13 and thus (after validation by the monitor 32) assigned to it is now used not only to trigger the write process, but also in the computer in accordance with a parameter of the address (for example the postal code) one of several shift registers 35 each with different throughput times.
- a signal line 36, 37, 38 extends from these shift registers.
- the gripper 13 carrying the newspaper with the corresponding address has moved on by a certain distance. If the address-specific signal is present on one of the lines 36, 37 or 38, the corresponding writing process is long over, but the gripper carrying the corresponding newspaper is located at a point dependent on the throughput time through the shift register.
- the signal lines 36 - 38 lead to collection points 40, 41 arranged along the course of the individual conveyor 11 and more precisely to control devices arranged at these collection points which open the grippers 13.
- the corresponding control element for lines 37 and 38 is designated 42 and 43, respectively, while line 36 leads to a collection point located even further downstream from the individual conveyor 11.
- specific control signals are only possible because they are only called up by a gripper 13 that guides a newspaper, but not by the newspaper itself. After these address-specific control signals have triggered the writing process with practically no delay, they "accompany" the corresponding gripper to a certain extent and cause the opening and thus the release of the printed product at a location dependent on an address parameter.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for addressing newspapers, magazines and similar printed products according to the preamble of claim 1.
The invention also relates to a shipping line with such a device.
Such a device is, for example, from a publication by A.B. Dick Company, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA, has become known under the fantasy name "Videojet-mailer". With this device, the print products to be addressed are continuously conveyed past in a more or less free edition on a conveyor belt and at intervals from one another under the downward-facing spray heads of the inkjet recorder.
The arrival of each individual copy in the writing area of the inkjet recorder is detected directly by an electronic detector, which then triggers the writing process. As a result, irregular gaps between successive printed products can also be taken into account, so that each printed product can be addressed in the area provided for this purpose. However, the previously known device is hardly able, for example, to synchronously address the entire output of a rotary press occurring in a scale formation. To do this either the speed of movement of the printed products is increased to the extent that the scale flow is pulled apart so that gaps arise between successive print products, or the individual copies would have to be recorded directly in the scale flow, which is associated with difficulties and therefore with uncertainties. It is not, however, the ink jet recorder that stands in the first case against the increase in the conveying speed of the printed products on the conveyor belt, because each spray head of a current ink jet recorder (one spray head must be provided for each address line) can handle well over 1,000 characters per Second to write. Rather, they are a certain mass and at the same time have a certain vulnerability in printed products themselves, which cannot easily tolerate such an increase in the conveying speed.
In addition, in the known device, the signal which triggers the writing process loses all meaning after the triggering of the writing process, because the relative position of the printed product to the conveying device (the printed product lies - as already mentioned - in free circulation on a conveyor belt) is indefinite or at least only determined at the moment . Accordingly, the use of this signal is limited only to the writing process.
It is therefore a purpose of the invention to provide a device of the type mentioned which guarantees a clean, uniform addressing and in which - if desired - the control signal for triggering further operations on the addressed print products can be evaluated.
For this purpose, the proposed device has the characteristics of claim 1 defined features.
A shipping line with the proposed device is defined in claim 3.
- Fig. 1 eine schematische Seitenansicht der Einrichtung, und
- Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of the device, and
- Fig. 2 is a schematic side view of a shipping line, the device shown in Fig. 1 is pre-slated
In the
Each of the
A set of
Essentially, the inkjet writing device 18 (inkjet printer) known as A. video. Dick Company, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA. This comprises a processing unit 19 for the ink to be sprayed, from which a
Each
The
More detailed information on the structure and operation of the ink jet pen 18 is available from the company A.B. Dick Company for literature available on the "videojet" inkjet writer.
In contrast to the known device, the
The address-specific control signal initiated by the
After the address-specific signal has passed through one of the
Accordingly (see FIG. 2), the signal lines 36 - 38 lead to
