Abstract

Abrasive belt with an abrasive-grain layer on a base containing a textile material, and with a joint extending transversely to its longitudinal direction. The latter contains a joining strip in a rebate on the side of the base facing away from the abrasive-grain layer. A set of parallel threads of the textile material extends transversely to the joint. To increase the quality of the joint, the textile material used is one in which the set of parallel threads forms a non-interwoven layer. This thread layer is arranged on the side of the textile material facing the abrasive-grain layer. This layer is held together by a further layer arranged on its side facing away from the abrasive-grain layer. Since the rebate is located in this further layer, the threads responsible for transmitting the longitudinal tensile forces and extending transversely to the joint remain unaffected.

Description

The invention relates to an abrasive belt with a layer of abrasive grain on a base containing a textile material and with a connecting joint running transversely to its longitudinal direction, which contains a connection belt in a fold on the side of the base facing away from the abrasive grain layer, wherein a family of parallel threads of the textile Material runs across the joint.

It is known to bridge the edges of an abrasive belt to be connected to one another in the region of the connecting joint with a connecting belt which is cast in place in the rear fold-out of the belt from hardened material (US Pat. No. 4,215,516) or pre-glued (FR-PS 928 656). For the production of the fold-out part of the base including the tissue contained therein is removed, so that the remaining part is weakened. Even if the fold-out extends only over a smaller part than half the fabric thickness or if the fold-out surfaces are inclined (US Pat. No. 3,154,897), it cannot be avoided that the threads of the fabric running transverse to the joint are also interrupted in those areas or at least weakened, in which they pass in the area of a tie point under the threads running transversely to them. Often, in order to avoid this weakening, the connecting band is completely countersunk in the rebate, but this has the disadvantage that the connecting band protrudes on the back over the band surface.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing an abrasive belt of the type mentioned in the introduction, in which the weakening mentioned is avoided or reduced by the fold-out of the connecting joint.

The solution according to the invention consists in that the family of mutually parallel threads running transversely to the connecting joint forms a non-woven layer on the side of the textile material facing the abrasive grain layer, which is held together by a further layer on its side facing away from the abrasive grain layer, in which the fold for the band connection is located.

The invention is based on the knowledge that when a certain type of textile fabric is used, which is known as such in abrasive belts (EP-PS 0 045 408; DE-PS 2 333 980), the layered arrangement of the different thread layers in the abrasive belt underlay offers the possibility there, the thread layer which is mainly responsible for the transmission of the longitudinal tensile forces in the sanding belt, to be arranged in the backing layer facing the abrasive grain layer and to provide the rebate for the sanding belt connection essentially in the other, rear layer of the textile fabric, and thereby for the transmission of the longitudinal tensile forces To fully or largely protect the responsible thread position from weakening due to the folds.

While the textile material in the context of the invention must always contain a layer with threads running transversely to the connecting joint, which is responsible for the transmission of the longitudinal tensile forces of the abrasive belt, there is the choice of the layer which holds the threads of the first-mentioned layer and on the back thereof is arranged, extensive freedom. However, this layer is preferably also formed from a fiber material, preferably a family of threads running transverse to the threads of the first-mentioned layer, the layers being able to be connected by any means, but preferably in the manner of a knitted fabric (as is the case, for example, in EP-PS 0 045 408 and the literature described therein).

In the case of sanding belts of normal width, the warp threads of the textile material running in the longitudinal direction of the belt can form the family of threads parallel to one another; in this case only one connecting joint is generally provided.

However, if it is an abrasive wide belt, the width of which is greater than the production width of conventional textile webs used for the use of the underlay, a plurality of connecting joints is provided, the family of parallel threads running transversely to the connecting joints being separated from the weft threads of the textile material is formed.

The statement that the threads responsible for the transmission of the longitudinal tensile forces run transversely to the connecting joint serves only to identify them, but not to indicate a specific angle between these threads and the connecting joint. In particular, it is not necessary that there be a right angle between these threads and the connecting joint. Nor do these threads need to run exactly in the longitudinal direction of the grinding belt.

The connection joint can have any course. It does not necessarily have to be straight, but can also be wavy or jagged, for example.

The fold-out can be limited at right angles in cross-section by the joint. It can also run at either of the two edges to be connected in a wedge-shaped incline or arc. It expediently has a constant cross section in the longitudinal direction of the joint; however, the rebate can also be composed of a series of grooves arranged one behind the other, which run in the longitudinal direction of the band or in the longitudinal direction of the threads running transversely to the joint, as is known per se.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, which illustrates an advantageous embodiment in a schematic cross section through an abrasive belt connection joint.

The abrasive grain layer 1 is supported by a flexible base, which contains a sewing fabric as a supporting textile material, which consists of two layers, of which the upper layer immediately below the abrasive grain layer 1 contains a family of threads 2 which run approximately in the longitudinal direction of the grinding belt while the second, Darun ter layer consists of threads 3 running transversely to the threads 2. At 4, the abrasive belt contains a connecting joint running transversely to its longitudinal direction and transversely to the plane of the drawing, which therefore also runs transversely to the direction of the threads 2. The connection is mediated by a connecting band 5, which is inserted into a rebate of the edges to be connected to one another on both sides of the joint. The depth of the fold is equal to the thickness of the connecting band 5 so that it is completely contained therein. This is advantageous but not absolutely necessary in all cases.

The depth of the folds is equal to the thickness of the layer formed by the threads 3, so that only the material belonging to this layer was removed during the production of the folds, while the layer formed by the threads 2 is undamaged. The tensile forces can be transmitted directly from the threads 2 on one side of the joint to the connecting band 5 and from there to the threads 2 on the other side of the connection.

The invention leads to a joint connection of high resilience and security.

The structure of the connecting belt 5 and the technology of its connection to the grinding belt can be of a known type.
