Abstract

The system includes decoders / receivers (30a-d) that can be addressed individually to each remote station. Each decoder / receiver comprises an information processing unit (44) and a memory (48) for identifying its separate address in addition to a "global" address common to several remote stations of the system. The information is gathered from different sources (16a, 17a, 17b) in a centralized data processing station (12) which codes the data intended to be transmitted to the remote stations (24a-d). The transmission path is provided by an existing communication network such as a cable television system or a switched telephone network.
