Abstract

An electric timepiece having a square dial with corners at the twelve, three, six and nine o'clock positions has a first array of twelve light sources at one to twelve o'clock positions, a second array of four light sources which are inwardly adjacent the light sources of the first array at the twelve, three, six and nine o'clock positions, and a centrally located light source. The color and/or intensity of radiation issuing from the centrally located light source changes at midnight and at noon, and all of the remaining light sources are used to indicate minutes. The light sources of the second array indicate single-minute periods, and the light sources of the first array indicate five-minute periods. In addition, the light sources of the first array are used to indicate hours in colors or hues other than those used to denote five-minute periods.

Description

The invention relates to an electric watch, which consists of a display area provided with lighting elements and an electronic circuit for controlling these lighting elements, the surface serving for the display being designed as a square field and provided with lighting elements such that twelve lighting elements and on the outer part the inner part of four light elements are each arranged symmetrically, and the electronic circuit on the one hand the twelve light elements arranged on the outer part for both the hour and for the 5-minute display and on the other hand the four light elements arranged in the inner part for each controls minute displays lying on the outer part between successive 5-minute displays.

Herkömmliche elektrische Uhren arbeiten entweder mit Zeigern oder mit Zifferblättern (Analoganzeige) oder mit Hilfe wechselnder Ziffern (Digitalanzeige).Conventional electric clocks work either with hands or with dials (analog display) or with the help of changing numbers (digital display).

You need 12 + 60 light elements to display hours and minutes (arranged in a circle); they do not allow a distinction to be made between the periods 0:00 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 12:00 midnight.

Hierbei stellt sich jedoch die Unterscheidung zwischen Stunden- und 5-Minuten-Anzeige als problematisch heraus, da beide mittels der zwölf Leuchtelemente des äußeren Teils angezeigt werden.US-A-4 106 281 discloses an electric watch which consists of a display surface provided with light elements and an electronic circuit for controlling these light elements, the surface serving for the display being designed as a square field and provided with light elements such that on the outer surface Part twelve light elements and four light elements are each arranged symmetrically on the inner part, and the electronic circuit on the one hand the twelve light elements arranged on the outer part both for the hour and for the 5-minute displays and on the other hand those arranged in the inner part controls four lighting elements for the minute displays lying on the outer part between successive 5-minute displays. Here, however, the distinction between hour and 5-minute displays turns out to be problematic, since both are displayed using the twelve lighting elements on the outer part.

The invention has for its object to provide an electric watch of the same type in which the distinction between hour and 5-minute display is permanently possible.

This object is achieved in a clock specified in the introduction in that the twelve lighting elements arranged on the outer part are activated both for the hour display in a first color and for the 5-minute display in a second color,
that the four lighting elements located in the inner part are controlled in the second color,
that with simultaneous activation of a lighting element for an hour and a 5-minute display, double activation takes place in such a way that the lighting element in question lights up in a third color, and
that an additional lighting element arranged in the middle of the square field is activated continuously in the second half of the day.

Another embodiment of the invention is that the twelve lighting elements, the four lighting elements and the additional lighting element are different in shape, color and size.

It is provided according to the invention that diodes which can be controlled in multiple colors are used as lighting elements.

The electrical control unit is expediently designed such that three consecutive counters with downstream decoders are provided as control units for the lighting elements, that the counters are connected to a quartz-stabilized oscillator via a frequency divider and that the display for morning / afternoon from the hour counter via a Flip-flop circuit is controlled.

The advantages achieved by the invention consist in particular in that the time after hours and minutes and the distinction after morning and afternoon can be read clearly with a small expenditure of display means.

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawings.

The time is shown in FIG. 1 by using a square field 1 on the top as a display surface and arrangement of 12 symmetrically distributed lighting elements 4 in the outer part 2 and four symmetrically distributed lighting elements 5 in the inner part 3 by lighting up one or two lighting elements 4 of the outer Part 2 and optionally from one to four light elements 5 of the inner part 3 are displayed, the light elements 4, 5 lighting up in different colors depending on the hour and minute display (for example green for the hours and red for the minutes).

The hour is displayed by lighting up one of the lighting elements arranged in the outer part 2, which are attached like the hour numbers of conventional clocks and the upper lighting element the time 12 or 24 and the lower lighting element the time 6 or 18, and the lighting elements in between which are assigned the corresponding time.

The minute is displayed once by lighting up one of the same twelve lighting elements 4 in a clockwise direction for all five minutes and by the four lighting elements 5 in the inner part 3 for the four subsequent minutes each, in a color different from the hour display.

The problem that arises once an hour, to express both an hour and a (five) minute display at the same time with the same light element (comparable to the situation of overlapping the hands with an analogue clock), is solved by the fact that for this period the respective one Light element is controlled twice and lights up in a third color that can be distinguished from the other two colors.

In the middle of the square field 1 there is an additional lighting element 6, which remains lit, for example, during the second half of the day (1 p.m. to midnight) so that the two halves of the day can be distinguished at a glance.

In Fig. 1, four (4), 6, 6 are particularly marked (radiating), which, when they light up, indicate the time 1 pm and 11 minutes, for example the hours in green and the minutes in red, and the broad half of the day in red can be displayed.

A quartz stabilized oscillator 7 is provided, which e.g. generates a frequency of 32 kHz. 8 denotes a frequency divider, by means of which the oscillator frequency is divided down to 1 Hz in order to control a first counter 9. This counter 9 controls the lighting elements 5 for the minute display 1 to 4 every 60 seconds via a decoder 10.

When the 4-minute counter 9 (with pulses) has run full, it gives a pulse to the counter 11 for the 5-minute intervals that are indicated by the lighting elements 4. The counter 11 is connected to the lighting elements 4 via the decoder 12.

The hour counter 13 receives pulses from the counter 11 and also controls the lighting elements 4 via the decoder 14 after each hour.

The lighting elements 4 can be designed such that they light up green when activated as a 5-minute display. If, on the other hand, the lighting elements 4 are activated as an hour display, they light up e.g. red on. If the 5-minute display and the hour display occur once per hour with the same lighting element 4, the lighting element 4 lights up in a color different from green and red.

After 12 hours, the hour counter 13 gives a pulse to the flip-flop circuit 15, which, depending on the time of day, causes the lighting element 6 to light up or go out. That way, on the watch read at any time whether the time for morning or afternoon is displayed.

Mit 16 ist ein Netzteil bezeichnet, das die Stromversorgung für alle Elemente des elektrischen Steuergeräts sicherstellt.16 with a power supply is designated, which ensures the power supply for all elements of the electrical control unit.

The electric clock according to the invention can be used for all types of clocks, for example as a standing, table, wall or arm-worn clock.
