- the area 18 is selected on the other hand so that you have to reach into the area if you want to cover the field of view of the video camera in an inconspicuous manner.
- the record is then checked at certain time intervals to determine whether there has been misuse, for example whether a check card number matches the number of a check card reported as stolen. In this case, an image of the user can be obtained. If there are no abuses, the saved images can be easily deleted.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a monitoring device for securing automatic machines that can be actuated by a code carrier, in particular automated teller machines.
A check card with a magnetic strip is inserted into these ATMs. After entering a "personal secret number" on a keypad of the ATM, a cash amount likewise entered on the keypad can be withdrawn.
If the credit card is stolen or lost, there is a risk of misuse. The "personal secret number" is often elicited from the rightful owner by tricks or has otherwise become known to a thief or finder. The owner can then withdraw money from the ATM at the expense of the owner.
Similar problems can occur with other machines which can be operated by the magnetic code of a check or credit card, for example with machines for selling tickets.
The invention has for its object to secure such machines against misuse.
- (a) an image recording device which
- Can be activated when the machine is operated and
takes and stores an image of a visual field in which the user must be when the machine is operated, - (b) sensor means responsive to the presence of objects in a restricted zone comprising an area adjacent to the image recording device, and
- (c) means for locking the machine when the sensor means responds.
Each user is captured by an image recorder when the machine is operated. This is preferably a video camera. A video camera works sufficiently even in very dim lighting and can be made very small. It is also possible to delete the recorded images after some time if no misuse of the machine has been found. In this way, the users of the machine are recorded, so that in the event of misuse, a recorded image of the user is available in any case. A user who misuses the machine could try to prevent the image from being recorded by covering the image recording device. Then would address the sensor means and lock the machine.
Ausgestaltungen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche.Embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
- Fig. 1 shows schematically an ATM with a monitoring device.
- 2 is a schematic block diagram of the ATM and the monitoring device.
With 10 an ATM is designated, from which amounts of money can be withdrawn after inserting a check card and entering a code. This ATM is monitored by a built-
Der Geldautomat gibt dann kein Geld ab.A sensor 16 (not shown in FIG. 1) responds when there are objects in an
In Fig. 2 ist die Funktion des Geldautomaten und der Überwachungsvorrichtung schematisch in Form eines Blockdiagramms dargestellt.2, the function of the automated teller machine and the monitoring device is shown schematically in the form of a block diagram.
Der Steuerteil 24 steuert eine Geldausgabevorrichtung 26.The cash machine contains a
The
The
The
In operation, the record is then checked at certain time intervals to determine whether there has been misuse, for example whether a check card number matches the number of a check card reported as stolen. In this case, an image of the user can be obtained. If there are no abuses, the saved images can be easily deleted.
