Abstract

Accessories, especially a handle (6) and a stick buffer (9) or a stick tip can be connected in an exchangeable manner to a stick shaft consisting of two tubes (1, 2) which are displaceable one inside the other. Connected to one of the tubes (2) is a coupling device (14, 15, 19) which connects the two tubes (1, 2) of the stick shaft to each other in a tension and pressure resistant manner. The coupling device can be detached by pushbutton (29) via a linkage (18) in order to displace the two tubes (1, 2) one inside the other and thus to adjust the length of the shaft as required. The infinitely variable adjustment of the shaft length and the different accessories result in an optimum, versatile usability of the stick. <IMAGE>

The universal stick shown has a shaft consisting of an upper, outer tube 1 of larger diameter and a lower, inner tube 2 of smaller diameter, which slidably engages in the lower end of tube 1 and is guided by the lower, tapered end of tube 1 is. In the upper end of the outer tube 1, a spring clip 3 is inserted, which normally holds a safety button 4 in the outer position shown, in which this safety button 4 e.g. engages in a through hole 5 of a handle 6 with a loop 6a and secures this handle on the tube 1. The handle 6 has a bore 7, in which the tube 1 engages practically without play, so that the handle 6 is stably connected to the tube 7. According to FIG. 1, a coupling tube 8 of a stick buffer 9 engages in the lower end of the tube 2. In the coupling tube 8, a securing button 10, similar to the securing button 4, is held by means of a spring clip 11 and engages in a coupling tube 8 coupled to the tube 2 according to FIG. 1 in a hole 12 in the tube 2 and thus secures the stick buffer 9 at the lower end of the tube 2nd

In the outer tube 1 there is a coupling device 13 which is connected to the inner tube 2 and which serves for the tensile and pressure-resistant connection of the tubes 1 and 2. The actual coupling elements are a cone 14 and one surrounding ring of balls 15. The balls 15 are held in an axially displaceable cage 16 which is connected by means of a cross pin 17 to an axially displaceable release rod 18. A compression spring 19 acts between the upper end of the release rod 18 and the cone 14, which presses the cone upwards relative to the cage 16 connected to the release rod 18 and thus the balls 15. Thus, the cone 14 presses the balls 15 radially against the inner wall of the tube 1, which ensures the tensile and pressure-proof connection of the tubes 1 and 2. The cone 14 consists of one piece with a piston 20. In two transverse bores of this piston 20 there are compression springs 21 which press balls 22 against the inner wall of the tube 1. The elements 20 to 22 act as a brake, which allows an axial displacement of the cone 14 in the tube 1 only by overcoming a certain force. The upper end of the trigger rod 18 is guided axially displaceably in a sleeve 23. The sleeve 23 has an annular bead 24, into which an annular bead 25 of the tube 2, which is pressed in, engages and secures the sleeve 23 in the tube 2. The lower end of the release rod 18 is coupled by means of a cross pin 26 to a piston 27 which can be displaced in the tube 2 and which has a flat cone 28 at the lower end. The inner edge of a pusher 29 can act on this conical surface 28, which is normally held in the outer, inactive position shown by a compression spring 30. By pushing this pusher 29, the piston 27 and thus the trigger rod 18 can be moved axially upward. With the release rod 18, the cage 16 with the balls 15 is also raised relative to the cone 14 held by the brake with sufficient force, that is to say with a cone 14 which exceeds the force of the spring 19. The pipes 1 and 2 are thus uncoupled from one another and can be shifted into one another. The tubes 1 and 2 and their displacement path can be chosen for example be that the stock shaft when pushed together is about 0.70 m and when fully extended is about 1.20 m.

Figures 2 to 5 show, on a somewhat smaller scale than Figure 1, the versatility and ease of use of the stick. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the handle 6 is designed and usable as a combined walking stick handle and ski stick handle. In the position according to Figures 1 and 2, the handle is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the stick and is coupled to the same by means of the holes 5 and 7 according to Figure 1. The handle can be connected in the position of Figure 3 with corresponding holes 5 'and 7' in the direction of the longitudinal axis with the stick shaft. Accordingly, with the lower end of the tube 2, the buffer 8, 9, according to FIG. 1, a pole tip 31 with a corresponding coupling tube 32 and a securing button 10 or a snow plate 33 with a ski pole tip 34 with a corresponding coupling tube 35 and a securing button 10 Fig. 5) are connected to the lower end of the stick shaft. A coupling sleeve 37 is held removably on a rubber ring 35a, which serves a purpose explained later. Finally, a crutch handle 36 according to FIG. 4 can also be connected to the upper end of the stick shaft, which has a bore 5˝ and a bore 7˝ corresponding to the bores 5 and 7 according to FIG. As a ski pole for alpine skiing, the pole with the longitudinal handle 6 and the snow plate with tip 34 has a total length of, for example, 1.32 m. When using the crutch handle 36, the stick shaft 1, 2 must be shortened accordingly. An extension piece can be provided which can be inserted between the lower end of the tube 2 and the snow plate 33 and which has corresponding coupling means at its ends. This intermediate piece can, for example have a length of 30 cm to bring the ski pole for cross-country skiing to a total length of about 1.60 m.

Sofern verfügbar, könnten auch noch die oben erwähnten Verlängerungsstücke eingesetzt werden, um eine Sondenlänge vonn etwa 3,00 m zu erreichen.FIG. 6 shows the use of a pair of poles according to the invention as a makeshift avalanche probe. Two poles equipped as ski poles are used for this purpose, from which both handles 6 have been removed and one of the snow plates has been removed from the tip 34. Then the two tubes 1 of the shafts are connected to one another by means of the coupling sleeve 37. This coupling sleeve is a very simple part, namely a sleeve into which the stick ends can be inserted with little play and which have two bores 38 for receiving the coupling buttons 4. This avalanche probe has a length of approximately 2.40 m. If available, the extension pieces mentioned above could also be used to achieve a probe length of approximately 3.00 m.
