Abstract

The therapeutic mattress comprises an elastic but hard base layer of foam material. Over this base layer is applied a frame composed of a hard part and a soft part. On its upper side the mattress is bounded by a soft cover layer. Between or inside the aforementioned parts is disposed a core comprising essentially two groups of three air-cushions each and an insert. Each of the two air-cushion groups has its own connection to a pumping station equipped with a programmable control device. Using this control device it is possible to set up the most varied programs and cycles for moving a patient and positioning him, or repositioning him, as often as needed. In this way, decubitus ulcers may be prevented from developing, but in addition, conditions may be created to enable ulcers already developed to be healed.

Description

An anti-decubitus mattress is used to position a patient, especially an older patient, in such a way that no decubitus ulcers develop or that existing decubitus ulcers can heal. Known mattresses of this type are characterized by great softness. There are also so-called alternating pressure mattresses, i.e. approx. 20 cm high mattresses, which are composed of two parts which are wedge-shaped in cross-section and which are individually inflatable and can be deflated. An approximately 12 - 15 cm thick, very soft mattress is then placed on such a mattress. These alternating pressure mattresses have not only proven themselves because they are too high together with the additionally required mattress, but also because they do not adapt properly to those bed frames that have two hinges that extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the bed to form a head wedge and have a foot wedge, and because when emptying one of the mattress parts there is a risk that the patient will roll out of bed or onto the existing safety gate.

Furthermore, from DE-A1-24 08 784 a hospital bed with a cushion mattress and a swing drive arranged under this mattress is known. This swing drive is formed by two inflatable cushions extending over the entire length of the mattress, which are designed and arranged symmetrically to each other with respect to the central plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress, but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress, and can be alternately filled with air, thereby Lift the mattress once on one side and then on the other, thus changing the lying surface. However, such a configuration of a lying surface cannot be combined with a modern bed frame use, i.e. a bed frame, on the one hand the head wedge can be swiveled and on the other hand the section adjoining this is divided into two parts that can also be swiveled in such a way that the lying surface is raised as required in the area of the knees and, if necessary, the lower leg of the bed user leaves.

The present invention now relates not to a multi-part hospital bed, but to a one-piece anti-decubitus mattress which has neither the disadvantages of the known mattresses nor the disadvantages of the hospital bed described above, but which has all the advantages necessary for prevention and treatment, including: make constant repositioning of the patient unnecessary. It is therefore a mattress with air cushions that are mirror images of each other with respect to the central plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress, taper towards the central plane and are connected to a pumping station in such a way that they inflate alternately and let it empty. It is characterized by the fact that it consists of an elastic but firm foam base layer, a cover layer that is soft in relation to the base layer, an elastic frame layer arranged in between and a core that contains the air cushions and is located between all these components, the air cushions on the base layer being flat lie on both sides of the There are three cushions forming a group in the middle level, which in the air-filled state can be pivoted against each other by at least 90 ° and are connected to the pumping station in such a way that the cushions of one group can be inflated and deflated together, but independently of the cushions of the other group. Such a mattress can be designed such that it only has a maximum height of 26 cm when completely filled with air. The pumping station is expediently provided with a control unit, with which a pump cycle which can be selected quite broadly can be programmed, depending on the needs arising.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing. In the drawing shows
  • 1 shows a cross section through an anti-decubitus mattress according to the line II
  • of Figure 2, which shows a plan view of the mattress, but with the insert partially broken away and the top layer and
  • FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of the anti-decubitus mattress.

The mattress shown has a base layer 1, which consists of an approximately 3 cm thick, solid foam. On this base layer 1 there is an elastic frame layer, formed from two foam strips lying on top of one another, each about 15 cm wide and about 7-8 cm high, of which the lower one is designated 2 and has a similar strength to the base layer. The upper one labeled 3 Stripe is much softer. It is advisable if all these parts are glued together so that they always maintain their mutual position. The core lies between all of the above-mentioned components. It is formed here from six air cushions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, three of which are each connected to one another by an air line, namely the air cushions 4, 6 and 8 by the line 10/12 on the one hand and the air cushions 5, 7 and 9 through line 11/13 on the other hand, whereby two groups of air cushions are formed. These two groups of air cushions lying on the base layer 1 are arranged and formed in mirror image relation to one another with respect to the central plane 16 which runs in the longitudinal direction of the mattress but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress. As can be seen from the drawing, these cushions taper towards the central plane 16 in such a way that they only have a height of about 7 cm in the air-filled state, while the height at the opposite edge of the cushion, i.e. in the frame layer, is about 15 cm is. One group of air cushions is connected via a hose 14 and the other via a hose 15 to a pumping station 18 provided only schematically in the drawing with a control unit 17. The core of the anti-decubitus mattress also includes an insert made of soft foam, lying on all air cushions and tapering outwards from the center, i.e. from the location of the central plane 16, i.e. towards the longitudinal edges, which is designated 19 in the drawing and the surface of which runs parallel to the level of the foam base layer. The mattress surface is formed from a cover layer 20 which is very soft in relation to the mattress base layer 1, which extends over the entire top of the mattress and which is expediently connected to the frame layer at least at individual locations in such a way that the mattress forms a uniform whole. The fact that on each side of the central plane 16 not a single air cushion but a group of three Air cushions, which can be spaced apart from one another by transverse webs 22 and 23, it is possible that the mattress is as flexible as is necessary for a bed frame in which the mattress topper consists of three parts which can be pivoted together and are hinged to one another , a part that serves as a button wedge, and the other two parts that serve to ensure the correct positioning of the thighs and lower legs, that is, to enable the formation of a rise serving to support the hollow of the knee.

This mattress is also expediently protected, as is the case with ordinary mattresses, by a fabric cover 21, which of course has openings for the two hoses 14 and 15 leading to the pumping station 18. This pump station can be a pump used to generate air pressure, with the valves used to inflate and deflate the two air cushion groups 4, 6, 8 and 5, 7, 9. For use in a modern hospital or old people's home, however, the pumping station will not have a pump, but only a connection piece to connect the pumping station to the compressed air network of the patient's room, and the control valves that connect lines 14 and 15 to the connecting pieces as required or connect the discharge opening or close it.

Zyklus A:
  • a) Entleeren der einen Luftkissengruppe
  • b) Aufblasen dieser einen Luftkissengruppe
Zyklus B:
  • a) Entleeren der andern Luftkissengruppe
  • b) Aufblasen dieser andern Luftkissengruppe
Zyklus C:
The control unit is used to select the desired or required pumping or switching cycle and also to switch on pauses of a selectable length of up to 30 minutes between the individual steps of the cycle, and also to freely select the inflation and deflation speeds, whereby have proven to be expedient for the latter times of 1-3 minutes, preferably 2-3 minutes. The following cycles are expediently provided for the control units:
Cycle A:
  • a) Emptying one air cushion group
  • b) inflating this one air cushion group
Cycle B:
  • a) Emptying the other air cushion group
  • b) inflating this other group of air cushions
Cycle C:
  • a) Emptying one air cushion group
  • b) inflating this one air cushion group
  • c) emptying the other air cushion group
  • d) inflating this other air cushion group
By emptying an air cushion group, the patient is brought into a new position in a very gentle way, so that his own body parts are not always burdened by his own weight, which is necessary to prevent pressure ulcers.

  • 1. a) Sorgfältiges Neigen des Patienten von der horizontalen Lage in die linken Seitenlage, was 2 Minuten in Anspruch nimmt;
  • b) liegen in dieser Lage während 15 Minuten;
  • c) rückführen in die horizontale Rückenlage, was wieder ca. 2 Minuten in Anspruch nimmt;
  • d) liegen in dieser Lage während 15 Minuten; dann wieder a - d.
  • 2. a) Sorgfältiges Neigen des Patienten von der horizontalen Lage in die rechte Seitenlage, was 1 1/2 Minuten in Anspruch nimmt;
  • b) liegen in dieser Lage während 20 Minuten;
  • c) rückführen in die horizontale Rückenlage, was wieder ca. 1 1/2 Minuten in Anspruch nimmt;
  • d) liegen in dieser Lage während 20 Minuten; dann wieder a - d.
  • 3. a) Neigen des Patienten von der horizontalen Lage in die rechte Seitenlage, was 1 Minute in Anspruch nimmt;
  • b) liegen in dieser Lage während 25 Minuten;
  • c) rückführen in die horizontale Rücklage, was wieder ca. 1 Minute in Anspruch nimmt;
  • d) liegen in dieser Lage während 25 Minuten;
  • e) Neigen aus dieser horizontalen Lage in die linke Seitenlage, was 1 Minute in Anspruch nimmt;
  • f) liegen in dieser Lage während 25 Minuten;
  • g) rückführen in die horizontale Lage, was 1 Minute in Anspruch nimmt;
  • h) liegen in dieser Lage während 20 Minuten; dann a - h.
The following movement programs are possible with these cycles:
  • 1. a) Carefully tilting the patient from the horizontal position to the left side position, which takes 2 minutes;
  • b) lie in this position for 15 minutes;
  • c) return to the horizontal supine position, which again takes about 2 minutes;
  • d) lie in this position for 15 minutes; then again a - d.
  • 2. a) Carefully tilt the patient from the horizontal position to the right side position, which takes 1 1/2 minutes;
  • b) lie in this position for 20 minutes;
