Definitions
- the present invention relates to a machine for sharpening twist drills. In order to preserve all their qualities in the drill, it is essential to sharpen them very regularly, sometimes after only a few hours of use.
- a known machine comprises a grinding wheel with a horizontal axis, and a plate with a vertical axis, this plate being mounted pivoting about its axis, and associated with a carriage movable parallel to the axis of the grinding wheel, with the action of a cam. , so that during the pivoting of the plate around its axis, there occurs a simultaneous movement of advance from the plate to the grinding wheel.
- a tool holder support pivoting about a horizontal axis, that is to say parallel to the plate, so as to adjust the tip angle of the drill to be sharpened with locking in the desired position .
- Tool holders suitable for the diameters of the drills to be sharpened should be fitted, these tool holders being, for drills with diameters varying from 1.5 to 26 mm, four in number. It is therefore advisable, before carrying out the sharpening of a drill, to choose the two half-shells constituting a tool holder, to position them on their support, and to position the drill approximately visually inside the two shells, with the risks of modifying the draft by turning the bit more or less in the tool holder.
- the cradle After angular positioning using a vernier, the cradle is rapidly advanced on its support and then a micrometric advance towards the grinding wheel. Firstly, one of the edges of the edge is machined, after which the tool holder is turned over on its cradle to perform the machining of the second edge. It is therefore necessary to have an extremely precise tool holder because the fact that we turn it over to sharpen one edge and then the other, the slightest inaccuracy between a reference face and the V-shaped face serving supporting the drill may lead to major errors.
- the drill is mounted on another support to proceed with a thinning operation of the core, the support device also having specific adjustments. It results from this structure of numerous drawbacks, and in particular the multiplicity of manipulations, the large number of adjustments being instinctively approximated, as well as the need to have available for training the wheel of a motor with two directions of rotation, a first direction for sharpening and a second direction for thinning the core. In addition, when you have a large drill, there is a risk of the latter and its tool holder tipping over with respect to the support cradle, given the rear overhang.
- the present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by providing a machine for sharpening twist drills, of simple design, of compact structure, allowing all of the sharpening operations to be carried out while leaving the drill mounted in the same door. -tools, without requiring turning over this tool holder.
- the machine it relates to of the type comprising a grinding wheel with a horizontal axis driven in rotation by a motor, a support mounted angularly adjustable around a horizontal axis, and actuable in rotation around a vertical axis with modification.
- the support cradle is integral with an annular element in the form of a bearing inside which is mounted a pivoting ring with adjustment of the angular position and locking in the desired position, this ring itself serving for mounting with the possibility of pivoting and locking in indexed positions of the tool holder.
- This device is interesting because it allows by pivoting the crown to adjust the cutting angle, then after sharpening one of the edges, to sharpen the other to the other edges by pivoting the tool holder inside the crown at an angle of 180 ° in the case of a drill with two edges.
- the tool holder has at its front end a body having a wedge-shaped section, this section decreasing from the rear to the front, in which the jaws consisting of two parts are slidably mounted. comprising openings in V vis-à-vis and having transverse recesses allowing their approximation by interpenetration, during their advance towards the narrowed part of the body. It is thus possible, using a single tool holder, to vary the opening between the two jaws from a value varying from 0 to a value up to 32 mm. This solution is interesting because it avoids the tool holder changes that are known with traditional machines. This machine is therefore particularly advantageous since the drill bit remains inside the tool holder throughout the sharpening operation, which considerably limits the risk of error and facilitates the operator's work.
- the support cradle is mounted inside a slide in the form of an arc of a circle, the center of which faces upwards, the lower part of this cradle having a shape complementary to that of the slide, means being provided to ensure the rotational driving of the cradle inside the curved slide, and other means ensuring the blocking in the chosen position.
- the means ensuring the rotation drive can for example be constituted by a rack, and the rotation lock can be achieved using a pressure screw.
- the support of the cradle is mounted adjustable in height with respect to the plate with which it is associated.
- the support is mounted at the upper end of a vertical column adjustable axially with respect to the plate, and passing through the support frame of the machine at the level of a lumen which the latter comprises.
- the support of the cradle is pivotally mounted on the upper end of the column with the interposition of an eccentric which ensures during the rotation of the support of the cradle with respect to the plate a movement movement towards the grinding wheel.
- the plate is pivotally mounted on the support frame about a vertical axis, with locking in the desired position, a light in an arc of a circle being provided to allow the passage of the column at the upper end of which is mounted the cradle support.
- the pivoting of the plate carrying all the members defined above with respect to the support frame makes it possible, at the end of sharpening, to carry out the operation of thinning the cutting edges, without having to use a specific device.
- the grinding wheel and its motor are mounted on the support frame with the interposition of two crossed slides associated with means for adjusting their position by screw and indexing wheel.
- this machine comprises a support frame 2 on a raised part of which is mounted a motor 3 driving in rotation about an axis 4, a grinding wheel 5, a diamond device 6 of known type being provided for dress the wheel.
- the motor 3 and the grinding wheel 5 are mounted on the support frame with the interposition of two crossed slides 7, 8, allowing adjustments using screws and handwheels 9, 10 and 12, 13 respectively.
- a light 14 in the form of an arc of a circle, above which is mounted a plate 15 pivoting about an axis on which the light 14 is centered, and lockable in the desired position at the using a lever 16.
- the upper part of the support plate 22 forms a T-shaped slide 24 arranged in an arc of a circle whose center is located above the slide, this slide serving housing a curved cradle 25, with the possibility of adjusting this cradle from a button 26, using a rack system, and locking in the desired angular position by means of a screw pressure 27.
- annular element 28 On the cradle 25 is mounted an annular element 28 forming a bearing for a pivoting crown 29 with the possibility of adjusting its angular position using a button 30.
- a button 30 Inside the crown 29, the door is pivotally mounted -tools 32.
- This tool holder 32 can be locked with respect to the crown in the desired angular position with the possibility of indexing by penetration of a finger secured to a button 33, inside orifices arranged in the crown.
- the front end of the tool holder has guide elements constituted by slides 34 converging towards the front, used for mounting two jaws 35 of V-section, the openings of the V being opposite one another , these two jaws having transverse recesses 36 allowing them to interpenetrate more or less to vary the opening between the two jaw bottoms which can vary from a value of 0 to 32 mm, the axial displacement of the jaws being produced by the knurled ring 37 placed at the rear of the device.
- the sharpening of a drill 38 is carried out in the following way: the drill is introduced inside the tool holder by the front or by the back of the latter according to its size.
- the tip angle is then adjusted by pivoting the cradle 25 relative to the support 22.
- the height adjustment is carried out by vertical positioning of the column 19.
- the cutting angle is then adjusted by pivoting of the crown 29 relative to the bearing 28.
- the position of the grinding wheel is then adjusted laterally and in depth, after which the grinding wheel is rotated to sharpen a first edge.
- the tool holder is pivoted relative to the crown 29 by an angle of 180 °, if the drill to be sharpened has two edges.
- the plate 15 relative to the support frame, the drill is brought into a new position relative to the grinding wheel, allowing the thinning of the core.
- the invention brings a great improvement to the existing technique, by providing a very compact machine allowing, using a single tool holder, to sharpen drills whose diameter can vary from 0 to 32 mm, and allowing all the sharpening operations including the thinning of the core to be carried out, without changing the tool holder, and without having to manually turn the tool holder over and re-attach it to its support.
- This results in great simplicity of use, as well as great speed, and excellent quality of the result obtained since the random practices of known machines are completely avoided.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a machine for sharpening twist drills. In order to preserve all their qualities in the drill, it is essential to sharpen them very regularly, sometimes after only a few hours of use.
There are already machines for sharpening twist drills.
A known machine comprises a grinding wheel with a horizontal axis, and a plate with a vertical axis, this plate being mounted pivoting about its axis, and associated with a carriage movable parallel to the axis of the grinding wheel, with the action of a cam. , so that during the pivoting of the plate around its axis, there occurs a simultaneous movement of advance from the plate to the grinding wheel.
On the plate is mounted a tool holder support, pivoting about a horizontal axis, that is to say parallel to the plate, so as to adjust the tip angle of the drill to be sharpened with locking in the desired position . Tool holders suitable for the diameters of the drills to be sharpened should be fitted, these tool holders being, for drills with diameters varying from 1.5 to 26 mm, four in number. It is therefore advisable, before carrying out the sharpening of a drill, to choose the two half-shells constituting a tool holder, to position them on their support, and to position the drill approximately visually inside the two shells, with the risks of modifying the draft by turning the bit more or less in the tool holder. After angular positioning using a vernier, the cradle is rapidly advanced on its support and then a micrometric advance towards the grinding wheel.
At the end of sharpening, the drill is mounted on another support to proceed with a thinning operation of the core, the support device also having specific adjustments.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by providing a machine for sharpening twist drills, of simple design, of compact structure, allowing all of the sharpening operations to be carried out while leaving the drill mounted in the same door. -tools, without requiring turning over this tool holder.
To this end, the machine it relates to of the type comprising a grinding wheel with a horizontal axis driven in rotation by a motor, a support mounted angularly adjustable around a horizontal axis, and actuable in rotation around a vertical axis with modification. from its distance from the grinding wheel during the rotational movement, is characterized in that the support cradle is integral with an annular element in the form of a bearing inside which is mounted a pivoting ring with adjustment of the angular position and locking in the desired position, this ring itself serving for mounting with the possibility of pivoting and locking in indexed positions of the tool holder.
This device is interesting because it allows by pivoting the crown to adjust the cutting angle, then after sharpening one of the edges, to sharpen the other to the other edges by pivoting the tool holder inside the crown at an angle of 180 ° in the case of a drill with two edges.
According to a characteristic of the invention, the tool holder has at its front end a body having a wedge-shaped section, this section decreasing from the rear to the front, in which the jaws consisting of two parts are slidably mounted. comprising openings in V vis-à-vis and having transverse recesses allowing their approximation by interpenetration, during their advance towards the narrowed part of the body.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the support cradle is mounted inside a slide in the form of an arc of a circle, the center of which faces upwards, the lower part of this cradle having a shape complementary to that of the slide, means being provided to ensure the rotational driving of the cradle inside the curved slide, and other means ensuring the blocking in the chosen position. The means ensuring the rotation drive can for example be constituted by a rack, and the rotation lock can be achieved using a pressure screw.
According to one possibility, the support is mounted at the upper end of a vertical column adjustable axially with respect to the plate, and passing through the support frame of the machine at the level of a lumen which the latter comprises.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the support of the cradle is pivotally mounted on the upper end of the column with the interposition of an eccentric which ensures during the rotation of the support of the cradle with respect to the plate a movement movement towards the grinding wheel.
Advantageously, the plate is pivotally mounted on the support frame about a vertical axis, with locking in the desired position, a light in an arc of a circle being provided to allow the passage of the column at the upper end of which is mounted the cradle support. The pivoting of the plate carrying all the members defined above with respect to the support frame makes it possible, at the end of sharpening, to carry out the operation of thinning the cutting edges, without having to use a specific device.
Finally, the grinding wheel and its motor are mounted on the support frame with the interposition of two crossed slides associated with means for adjusting their position by screw and indexing wheel.
- Figure 1 en est une vue en perspective;
- Figure 2 en est une vue en coupe longitudinale;
- Figure 3 en est une vue de dessus.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view;
- Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view;
- Figure 3 is a top view.
As shown in FIG. 1, this machine comprises a
It is also possible to carry out the indexing of the position of the plate with respect to the support frame by means of an indexing
On the
The front end of the tool holder has guide elements constituted by
As is clear from the above, the invention brings a great improvement to the existing technique, by providing a very compact machine allowing, using a single tool holder, to sharpen drills whose diameter can vary from 0 to 32 mm, and allowing all the sharpening operations including the thinning of the core to be carried out, without changing the tool holder, and without having to manually turn the tool holder over and re-attach it to its support. This results in great simplicity of use, as well as great speed, and excellent quality of the result obtained since the random practices of known machines are completely avoided.
As it goes without saying, the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this machine described above by way of example, it embraces, in content, all the variant embodiments.
