The applicator supplying the cleaning fluid to the floor surface has an aerosol atomizer to produce a finely atomized spray whose drop sizes are preferably between 15 and 150 micrometers. The cleaning fluid can contain surfactants. The applicator which is fixed on the machine housing is preferably moved at a speed of between 0.1 and 0.2 metres per second over the floor to apply 0.05 to 0.12 litres per square metre. The applicator can have a piezo atomizer.

Description

The invention relates to a floor care device according to the preamble of the first claim.

A known floor care device of this type (DE-GM 76 36 603) is equipped on its floor wall facing the carpet to be cleaned with an application device for cleaning agents which is applied to the carpet by means of a rubber lip. In the main direction of travel of the device, this application device is followed by a driven disk roller which engages in the carpet pile and which incorporates the applied cleaning agent into the carpet pile. This is followed by a pick-up device which removes the cleaning liquid mixed with detached dirt particles from the carpet surface by means of an air stream. The disadvantage of this structure is that experience has shown that cleaning liquid is applied in such an amount with such an application device that the carpet becomes very wet and a correspondingly high amount of liquid remains in the carpet despite immediate suction. This results in a very long waiting time between the cleaning process of the carpet and the at least extensive drying of the carpet. The room in question is then not accessible for a correspondingly long time.

The invention has for its object to take measures in a floor care device according to the preamble of the first claim, through which a reduction in the moisture content of the floor surface to be cleaned is achieved.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of the first claim.

In one embodiment of a floor care device according to the invention, a quantity of the cleaning fluid in a microfine atomized droplet form which is just sufficient for the cleaning process is sprayed onto the floor surface to be cleaned, which is sufficient only for wetting this floor surface and, in the case of a carpet, for wetting it on its upper side. Due to its mist-like shape, the cleaning fluid practically does not penetrate the carpet pile and is only brushed into the carpet pile with a suitably designed floor care device by a subsequent brush roller or rubbed onto a smooth floor in order to achieve increased dirt detachment through this mechanical action. In the case of a carpet, the cleaning fluid is not washed into the carpet base due to the small amount applied in finely divided form and is only incorporated into the pile in the smallest amount by the brush roller, so that only the individual carpet threads are wetted. The aerosol atomizer used for this creates droplets in the size between 15 microns to 150 microns in diameter. The cleaning fluid is preferably a liquid that contains dirt-removing surfactants. The amount of cleaning fluid to be applied per square meter to the floor area is in particular about 0.1 liters per square meter and can be between 50 cubic centimeters and 120 cubic centimeters in Range between low and high pile. The application device attached to the device housing is guided over the floor surface at a speed between 0.1 meters and 0.2 meters per second in order to achieve a fluid application reaching all parts of the surface. The application device can preferably have an atomizer driven by vibrations, which in particular has a piezo crystal set in vibration as the atomizing element.

In practical operation of the floor care device, the application fluid is used to apply the cleaning fluid in micro-atomized form to the floor surface to be cleaned while moving the device, and then to bring the brush roller into intimate contact with the floor surface and possibly the pile hair of a carpet, after which a subsequent one Suction device absorbs part of the cleaning fluid together with the loosened dirt. As a result of the small amount of cleaning agent applied to the floor area, the moisture penetration of a carpet in particular is reduced to a minimum and the time until it can be walked on is also significantly shortened. It is expedient to activate the application device and the brush roller in pairs and then after a time delay the brush roller and the suction device, so that the applied cleaning liquid can develop its dirt-removing effect over a period of time and is only taken up in a later operation. It is expedient to provide the suction device as a slot nozzle closely adjacent to the brush roller in order to remove the dirt and liquid particles thrown up by the brush roller before being deposited again on the floor surface by the suction air flow.
