Abstract

The switching centre (MSC) is equipped with a processor-controlled interface circuit (IF) for the connection of a concentrator (FSU) which serves several fixed-line subscriber terminals (T1-Tn). Each of these is connected in such a way as to be capable of operation like a mobile radio terminal. Advantageously the subscribers are administered by means of a home location register (HLR) and their terminals are equipped with readers for subscriber interface module (SIM) memory cards.

Description

In order to provide wired subscriber connections in a mobile radio system, it is known from WO 94/2 60 73 to connect a mobile radio switching center of the mobile radio system to at least one private branch exchange to which wired subscriber terminals can be connected. One of the private branch exchange locations is part of a so-called "subscriber services arrangement" which also offers mobile radio subscribers the services which the branch exchange systems offer the subscribers on the line-bound subscriber terminals. In W0 94/26073, only the principle is presented of connecting subscribers from line-bound subscriber terminals to a mobile switching center by means of private branch exchange systems. The means required for this in the mobile radio system, in particular in the mobile radio switching center, are not described in detail there. Since in the known mobile radio system the line-bound subscriber lines are provided by means of private branch exchanges, complex switching technology is required. In addition, only those services are available on the line-bound subscriber lines that are provided by the private branch exchange systems, but not by the mobile radio system itself.

From the article "Fixed Subscriber Connections in Cellular Radio Systems" by J.M. Garcia Aguilera, published in the magazine "Electrical News", issue 1/1995, Alcatel Alsthom Publications S.A., Paris, a mobile radio system is known to which wired subscriber terminals can be connected. For this purpose, a radio station is equipped with subscriber line interfaces, with a concentrator connected to it and with connected radio transceivers. The radio transceivers are in turn connected wirelessly to a base station of the mobile radio system. Accordingly, the radio station corresponds to a fixed terminal for several fixed participants. Although services are provided to these subscribers by the mobile radio network, a complex radio station is required for this.

The object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed mobile radio system, to which line-bound subscribers have access, and to specify means for this.

The object is achieved by a mobile radio switching center according to claim 1 and by a mobile radio system equipped therewith according to the secondary claim.

Accordingly, the mobile radio switching center according to the invention contains an interface circuit for connecting a concentrator which bundles a large number of subscriber connections for wired subscriber terminals.

Each of the line-bound subscriber terminals is thus connected to the mobile radio switching center in such a way that it can treat the line-bound subscriber terminals in the same way as mobile radio terminals. The switching of call connections from and to subscribers within the mobile radio system is according to the invention by Mobile radio switching center carried out regardless of whether the subscriber uses a mobile terminal or one of the wired subscriber terminals. The mobile radio system according to the invention has a very simple structure, since only an interface circuit is required as a means for connecting the line-bound subscriber terminals. Elaborate resources such as a private branch exchange or several radio transceivers are not required.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention can be found in the subclaims.

The invention is described below with the aid of an exemplary embodiment and with the aid of the single figure which schematically shows the structure of a mobile radio system by means of a mobile radio switching center according to the invention.

The figure shows a mobile radio system MRS which contains at least one mobile radio switching center MSC which is connected to a public telephone network PSTN. Furthermore, the mobile radio system contains a plurality of radio base station controllers connected to the mobile radio switching center and radio base stations connected thereto for the supply of radio cells, which together form the radio coverage area of the mobile radio system. In the figure, two so-called basic subsystems BSS are shown in a simplified manner, each of which comprises a base station controller and a plurality of base stations. These basic subsystems are connected, for example, via PCM 30 connections to the mobile switching center MSC, which switches both call connections within the mobile radio system and call connections between the mobile radio system and the public telephone network. To switch such call connections, the mobile switching center contains a controlled switching network SWT, which works with both the basic subsystems BSS and public telephone network PSTN is connected. Processor-controlled control units PROC are used to control the switching network SWT, one of which is shown here by way of example.

The MRS mobile radio system shown here should meet the requirements of the GSM standard for cellular mobile radio networks. For this purpose, the mobile radio system contains the following databases connected to the controlled switching matrix: a device database EIR, a home file HLR, an authentication center AUC and a visitor file VLR. The functions required in accordance with the GSM standard for these databases are not the subject of this invention and are only to be mentioned briefly here. Identifiers of the end devices used in the mobile radio system are stored in the device database EIR. Blocking notes are stored for these identifiers if end devices are reported as stolen and are therefore to be excluded from use within the mobile radio system. The home location file HLR essentially contains data about those subscribers of the mobile radio system who are in the area of responsibility of the mobile switching center MSC. In the home file HLR, for example, subscriber profiles are stored which indicate which services the subscribers can and may use within the mobile radio system. The current location of each participant is also stored in the home location register HLR by means of a reference to the visitor location register responsible for this location. The main task of the authentication center AUC is to secure secret codes for the encryption of data transmitted over the radio paths. The visitor file VLR, which is integrated in the mobile switching center MSC, stores subscriber data of the subscribers who are currently in the area of this mobile switching center and which are not stored in the home file HLR.

The structure of the MRS mobile radio system described so far essentially corresponds to the structure of a cellular mobile radio system according to the GSM standard (GSM: Global System for Mobile Communication). In order to make the mobile radio system accessible not only for mobile subscribers but also for wired subscribers, the mobile radio switching center MSC is equipped according to the invention with an interface IF which is connected to the controlled switching network SWT and to which a concentrator FSU is connected, which has several subscriber connections for provides wired terminals T1 to Tn.

The interface circuit IF is a processor-controlled circuit which simulates the connection of a basic subsystem with regard to the controlled switching matrix SWT. The connection of the interface circuit to the controlled switching matrix is thus comparable to a further connection of such a basic subsystem as one of the BSSs shown. With regard to the concentrator, the interface circuit simulates a multiplex connection, here for example a PCM 30 connection. The concentrator FSU is connected to the interface circuit IF via a multi-channel line (line bundle). Instead of a multi-channel line, a connection by means of an optical waveguide or by means of a radio transmission link is also conceivable. For this purpose, however, the interface circuit and the concentrator would also have to contain electro-optical converters or radio transceivers. The concentrator FSU now fuses the line bundle coming from the mobile radio switching center onto the various subscriber lines T1 to Tn. In the opposite direction, the subscriber connections are bundled using the concentrator. The concentrator FSU thus acts like a demultiplexer or a multiplexer. The concentrator is very simple to carry out and requires no further functions, in particular no switching functions.

Since each of the subscriber connections is connected to the controlled switching matrix SWT via the concentrator FSU and via the interface circuit IF, each of these subscriber connections within the mobile switching center MSC is treated like a connection of a mobile subscriber. According to the invention, the home location register HLR manages each of these subscriber connections in the same way as a connection of a mobile subscriber. The mobile switching center MSC switches call connections to and from the subscribers on the line-bound terminals in the same way as call connections from and to mobile subscribers on mobile radio terminals (mobile subscriber terminals). For this purpose, each of the line-bound subscriber connections is assigned a subscriber identifier which is stored in the HLR home file.

Somit bildet die erfindungsgemäß an die Mobilfunkvermittlungsstelle MSC angeschlossene Gruppe von leitungsgebundenen Teilnehmerendgeräten T1 bis Tn ein "virtuelles Basissubsystem".The subscriber number assigned to a subscriber terminal can advantageously be changed by providing this subscriber terminal with a reading device for reading storage means SIM, in which information for identifying the subscriber who is currently accessing this subscriber terminal is stored. Here the storage means is a so-called authorization card (subscriber identity module), which authorizes a subscriber to access the mobile radio system. The reading devices in the line-bound subscriber terminals T1 to Tn correspond to so-called card readers that can read these authorization cards. A subscriber can thus not only use any mobile subscriber terminal within the mobile radio system, but also any of the line-bound subscriber terminals T1 to Tn connected to the mobile radio switching center MSC. Thus, by equipping the line-bound subscriber terminals T1 to Tn, the subscribers can use them just like mobile subscriber terminals . The subscriber terminals T1 to Tn connected to the concentrator FSU here form a group of subscriber terminals which is comparable to a group of mobile subscriber terminals which are located in a basic subsystem BSS. The Mobile radio switching center MSC with the interface circuit IF and the home file HLR are designed such that the subscribers on the line-bound subscriber terminals are treated in the same way as mobile subscribers within a basic subsystem. The group of line-bound subscriber terminals T1 to Tn connected to the mobile radio switching center MSC in accordance with the invention thus forms a “virtual basic subsystem”.

A connection, as described above, of line-bound subscriber terminals to a mobile radio switching center can be used particularly advantageously where there is already an infrastructure for mobile subscribers, but an infrastructure that is easy to set up is also desired for line-bound subscribers. Thus, for example, the network operator of the mobile radio system can also offer wired connections to the mobile subscribers. By connecting such line-bound subscriber terminals, which contain a card reading device, the subscriber can log into the mobile radio system both via each mobile radio terminal and via these line-bound subscriber terminals using one and the same authorization card.

It is also conceivable to install the concentrator far from the mobile switching center where radio coverage is not indicated for technical reasons or for commercial reasons. The mobile radio network operator can thus also offer mobile radio-specific services to subscribers who are not in the radio coverage area of their mobile radio system.

The invention is not only applicable, as described above, to cellular mobile radio networks, but also to all mobile radio systems which contain switching devices.
