Description
Claims (8)
- A manipulation device insertable into a body cavity during a surgical procedure; said device comprising a pod (32) having a first surface for supporting a body organ and a plurality of selectively inflatable chambers (34) provided on the first surface (60), a plurality of fluid conduits (42) each having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of each conduit being fluidly connected to a fluid supply source and the distal end of each conduit being fluidly connected to at least one of the plurality of chambers (34) whereby the plurality of chambers are selectively inflatable by means of fluid introduced therein from the fluid supply source by way of the plurality of fluid conduits (42) to reposition the body organ, wherein the pod (32) is flexible and is configured to be rolled up for insertion into the body cavity and unrolled into an open position during a surgical procedure.
- A manipulation device according to claim 1 wherein each of the plurality of fluid conduits (42) is fluidly connected to a respective one of said plurality of chambers (34) so that each chamber can be independently inflated with fluid supplied by way of the respective fluid conduit.
- A manipulation device according to claim 1 or 2 wherein a valve (46) is provided in each fluid conduit (42) to control the flow of fluid therethrough.
- A manipulation device according to any preceding claim wherein the manipulation device comprises a second surface (62) opposed to the first surface (60) and the plurality of selectively inflated chambers (34) are provided on both the first and second surfaces.
- A manipulation device according to any preceding claim wherein the pod (32) comprises first and second layers attached to one another in a manner to define the selectively inflated chambers (34), the first layer being formed from elastomeric material.
- A manipulation device according to any preceding claim wherein the perimeter of the pod (32) is substantially circular.
- A manipulation device according to any preceding claim and further comprising a pressure sensor (64) fluidly connected to at least one of said plurality of fluid conduits (42).
- A manipulation device according to claim 7 and further comprising a microprocessor (66) electrically connected to the fluid supply source and the pressure sensor (64), the microprocessor being adapted to control the fluid supply source in response to the pressure level detected by the sensor (64) in the fluid conduit (42).
