- a object can therefore be formed of an element singleton (a conflict, a mission or a restriction) or a couple of two elements (a conflict and a mission).
- Step E 4 consists in selecting a resolution method from a predetermined set of resolution methods.
- a method of resolution is a general guideline on how to resolve the conflict. Examples of resolution methods can be "advance”, “delay” ... which indicates whether the conflict should be resolved by advancing the mission or missions that generate it, or rather by delaying it.
- the predetermined set of resolution methods may depend on the type of object the controller has selected.
- the resolution methods are general and therefore likely to apply in all situations and for any type of network. It is the IT means which interprets the resolution method in terms of resolution commands in depending on the situation.
- Step E 5 consists in constructing the response, that is to say a set, possibly reduced to a single element, of resolution commands which are applied to missions which generate conflicts in order to resolve them, and to actually apply these resolution commands to missions.

- FIG 4a shows a flowchart illustrating the processing implemented by step E 5 , when the selected object is a mission.
- Sub-step E 5a1 consists in determining a conflict generated by the selected mission. Indeed, the same mission can generate a plurality of conflicts. This step can simply be summed up by taking the first conflict encountered following the direction of the mission.
- Step E 5a2 consists in determining one or more resolution commands depending on the type of conflict and the resolution method.
- Step E 5a3 consists in applying these resolution commands to the selected mission.
- Step E 5a4 consists in testing whether the selected mission still generates a conflict. If yes, we return to step E 5a1 . It should be noted that step E 5a3 can generate new conflicts. - FIG. 4b shows a flowchart illustrating the processing implemented by step E 5 , when the selected object is a restriction.
- Sub-step E 5b1 consists in determining a mission which conflicts with the selected restriction. This step can simply be summed up by taking the first mission encountered by following a direction of restriction (that is, going up or down the time axis).
- Step E 5b2 consists in determining one or more resolution commands depending on the mission and the resolution method.
- Step E 5b3 consists in applying these resolution commands to the chosen mission.

- Sub-step E 5c2 consists, like sub-steps E 5a3 and E 5b3, of updating the mission by executing said resolution commands.
- FIG. 4d shows a flowchart illustrating the processing implemented by step E 5 , when the selected object is a conflict.
- Sub-step E 5d1 consists in determining a mission from among all of the missions generating said conflict.
- Sub-step E 5d2 consists in determining one or more resolution commands as a function of the selected resolution method, of the mission determined in the previous sub-step,
- Sub-step E 5d3 consists, like sub-steps E 5a3, E 5b3, and E 5c2, of updating the mission by executing said resolution commands.
- the sub-steps E 5a2 , E 5b2 , E 5c1 and E 5d2 consisting in determining the set of execution commands, can be implemented using a table with two inputs. One entry is the type of conflict, the other entry is the chosen resolution method. The table then gives one or more resolution commands.
- the choice can be made at random or by a parameter of the resolution method, said parameter possibly be by default or selected by the network regulator.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method enabling a regulator network (or traffic) to modify, using a computer means, scheduling of missions on a network type transport network railway, following a conflict.
The journey made by a convoy (or train) on the rail network, this route including departure, arrival and stop times at different stations.
We can assign to missions a type: express, freight ... this type can make certain missions more priority than others and thus facilitate conflict resolution.
Conventionally, the scheduling of missions on a network of railway type is carried out by one or more managers, called regulators, using IT resources. These IT resources are consisting of a computer or a plurality of computers connected in a network, as well as one or more software specifically designed for the management of rail networks.
partir pour S1 où elle arrive à 16h30.The representation and the visualization of the scheduling of the missions on a railway network by the software of management of railway networks can be carried out in different ways. A common visualization is the so-called TDG visualization for Time Distance Graph, in English. Figure 1 gives an example of TDG visualization. The abscissa shows time, expressed here in hours (h). The ordinates show the stations or stations likely to be served (S 1 , S 2 , S 3 , S 4 ).
Note in this figure that the slope corresponding to the representation of a convoy is proportional to the speed of the latter. In Figure 1, we see that between stations S 4 and S 3 ,
The task of the network regulator is to assign the parameters of the missions: arrival and departure times at each station, speed between two stations, etc.
Different events can disrupt mission planning: temporary closure of a section of track, addition of an additional task, etc. These events can lead to conflicts. We can cite several classic types of conflicts: occupation conflicts, restriction conflicts, catch-up conflicts, sling conflicts, etc.
A restriction is the temporary ban on entering a section of a rail network, for example following an accident (derailment, collapse of a bridge ...) or work on the network. When a mission is planned so that it must enter a restriction, there follows a conflict restriction. A restriction can be defined by a restriction zone (i.e. the section of the network that is affected), a start date and a end date.
Occupation conflicts are due to a limitation on the number of missions that can be present at the same time in certain areas of the network (limitation zones). For example, only one mission can be present, at one instant, on a bridge, under a tunnel, etc.
Catch-up conflicts occur when a mission collides with another mission, the two missions having the same direction of movement.
Face to face conflicts occur when a mission collides with another mission, the two missions having opposite directions of progression.
Scarf conflicts arise when a mission enters collision with another mission, the two missions coming from two directions different and meeting at a switch.
The different types of conflicts must be managed by the regulator of the network according to the events communicated to it. So in case of work on a section of track, the corresponding restriction appears on its network representation (on the TDG display for example). Missions which then pass through this restriction must be re-scheduled, that is to say that we must assign new departure times, new station parking times, new speeds to be observed between two stations, new routes, etc. ; these modifications are not exclusive.
Such a problem of mission reordering following a conflict (whether it is a restriction, occupation or other type of conflict) is a complex problem, akin to to the family of NP-complete problems. This means that it is impossible to find an optimal solution in a linear time. For a more complete definition of so-called NP-complete problems, we can refer to the book Artificial intelligence & Theoretical computer science by Jean-Marc Alliot and Thomas Schiex at Cépaduès-Éditions, or to any other work dealing with the theory of algorithmic complexity.
The known state of the art allowing the regulator to modify scheduling one or more missions following a conflict using IT resources, can be divided into two groups: methods manual and automatic methods.
The manual methods consist in editing the missions, one by one or more generally, and to modify, for each of them, their scheduling parameters (departure time, parking times in station, speeds between two stations ...). Changes can be made by editing a table, or graphically.
This kind of method is not satisfactory.
On the one hand, it is very difficult to manually find the best solution to a conflict, whether this is the one generating the least changes or the solution with the fewest changes.
In addition, not being able to find this solution can be critical. in the event that the flow of missions is significant in the vicinity of the conflict dealt with. In indeed, in such situations, modifying a mission to resolve a conflict may result in a new conflict (for example, resolve a conflict of restriction may give rise to a conflict of occupation).
The second family of methods is based on techniques advanced computing.
As an example, we can cite systems-based methods. experts. These processes are however cumbersome to implement and maintain, and oversized for simple conflict resolution. They also generate very long execution times.
Another example of an automatic conflict resolution method is based on the constraint programming technique. Again, these processes lead to long execution times. In addition, the parameters (heuristics ...) of the process depend on the rail network. They must therefore be determined again if the network changes or if the characteristics of the network or traffic evolves.
The aim of the present invention is to propose a resolution method of conflicts in a computerized representation of a rail network, does not not having the disadvantages of the methods according to the state of the art.
The step of determining an answer (e) can be broken down into a or more sub-steps depending on the nature of the selected object, that is to say if it is a conflict, a mission, a restriction or a couple formed of a conflict and a mission.
The invention and its advantages will appear more clearly in the description which will be made in connection with the attached figures, as well as in the description of examples of implementations of the invention.
La figure 1, déjà décrite, montre un exemple de représentation d'un ordonnancement de plusieurs missions sur un réseau ferroviaire selon le formalisme TDG.Figure 1, already described, shows an example of a representation of a scheduling of several missions on a rail network according to the TDG formalism.
Figure 2 shows an example of a TDG graph with different types of conflicts.
Figure 3 shows a flowchart illustrating the process according to the invention.
Les figures 4a, 4b, 4c et 4d détaillent sous la forme d'organigrammes, une étape du procédé selon l'invention dans les différents cas pouvant se présenter.FIGS. 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d detail in the form of flowcharts, a step in the process according to the invention in the various cases which may occur present.
Le procédé selon l'invention est illustré par l'organigramme représenté sur la figure 3.The process according to the invention is illustrated by the flowchart represented in figure 3.
Step E 1 consists in determining the various conflicts existing on the rail network as a function of the parameters of the missions, and of events such as the restrictions.
Step E 2 consists of viewing, for example on a computer screen in the form of a TDG (Time Distance Graph) graph, the missions, the conflicts and the restrictions.
Figure 2 shows an example of such a visualization. The restrictions are represented by rectangles (R 1 , R 2 ) the dimensions of which are determined on the one hand by the geographical area (that is to say, the section of the rail network), and on the other hand by a start date and end date. For example, the restriction R 1 is geographically delimited by the stations Si and S 2 , and it lasts from 9:30 to 13 hours.
Conflicts, whether conflicts of occupation (C o ), restriction (C R ) or others, can be represented by segments of different colors or thicknesses, or by any other graphic means of placing in highlight.
In FIG. 2, the missions M 1 and M 3 intersect in the station S 3 which can contain only one mission simultaneously, thus creating an occupation conflict C o . Mission M 2 , for its part, enters restriction R 2 , creating a restriction conflict C R.
The missions, conflicts and restrictions which are thus viewed can be selected by the network regulator, in the step referenced E 3 in FIG. 3.
It may be possible make multiple selections. So the network regulator can select a conflict and a mission. The selection made by the regulator is called an object. A object can therefore be formed of an element singleton (a conflict, a mission or a restriction) or a couple of two elements (a conflict and a mission).
Step E 4 consists in selecting a resolution method from a predetermined set of resolution methods. A method of resolution is a general guideline on how to resolve the conflict. Examples of resolution methods can be "advance", "delay" ... which indicates whether the conflict should be resolved by advancing the mission or missions that generate it, or rather by delaying it.
The predetermined set of resolution methods may depend on the type of object the controller has selected.
However, one of the advantages of the method according to the invention is that the resolution methods are general and therefore likely to apply in all situations and for any type of network. It is the IT means which interprets the resolution method in terms of resolution commands in depending on the situation.
Step E 5 consists in constructing the response, that is to say a set, possibly reduced to a single element, of resolution commands which are applied to missions which generate conflicts in order to resolve them, and to actually apply these resolution commands to missions.
The way of constructing this set of resolution commands may depend on the object selected during step E 3 .
Thus, Figure 4a shows a flowchart illustrating the processing implemented by step E 5 , when the selected object is a mission. Sub-step E 5a1 consists in determining a conflict generated by the selected mission. Indeed, the same mission can generate a plurality of conflicts. This step can simply be summed up by taking the first conflict encountered following the direction of the mission.
Step E 5a2 consists in determining one or more resolution commands depending on the type of conflict and the resolution method.
Step E 5a3 consists in applying these resolution commands to the selected mission.
Si oui, on revient à l'étape E5a1. Step E 5a4 consists in testing whether the selected mission still generates a conflict. If yes, we return to step E 5a1 . It should be noted that step E 5a3 can generate new conflicts. For example, by delaying a mission in order to avoid a restriction, this can lead to an occupation conflict with another mission.
Sub-step E 5b1 consists in determining a mission which conflicts with the selected restriction. This step can simply be summed up by taking the first mission encountered by following a direction of restriction (that is, going up or down the time axis).
Step E 5b2 consists in determining one or more resolution commands depending on the mission and the resolution method.
Step E 5b3 consists in applying these resolution commands to the chosen mission.
Si oui, on revient à l'étape E5b1.Step E 5b4 consists in testing whether there are still missions which enter the selected restriction. If yes, we return to step E 5b1 .
Sub-step E 5c1 consists in determining one or more resolution commands as a function of the selected resolution method, and of the mission / conflict pair.
Sub-step E 5c2 consists, like sub-steps E 5a3 and E 5b3, of updating the mission by executing said resolution commands.
La sous-étape E5d1 consiste à déterminer une mission parmi l'ensemble des missions engendrant ledit conflit.FIG. 4d shows a flowchart illustrating the processing implemented by step E 5 , when the selected object is a conflict. Sub-step E 5d1 consists in determining a mission from among all of the missions generating said conflict.
- The mission can be selected according to the conflict and the resolution method chosen. For example, for a conflict of occupation, if the resolution method "advance" (respectively "delay") is chosen then the first (respectively the last) mission is selected.
- The mission can be selected according to the type of mission in conflict by assigning priorities to the different types of mission. For example, if an express type mission conflicts with a freight type mission, then the freight type mission is selected.
- The mission can be selected so that the resolution causes minimal modification.
It is possible to imagine other ways of selecting the mission, and the present invention can not be understood as being limited to one way particular.
Sub-step E 5d3 consists, like sub-steps E 5a3, E 5b3, and E 5c2, of updating the mission by executing said resolution commands.
The sub-steps E 5a2 , E 5b2 , E 5c1 and E 5d2 consisting in determining the set of execution commands, can be implemented using a table with two inputs. One entry is the type of conflict, the other entry is the chosen resolution method. The table then gives one or more resolution commands.
When several resolution commands exist for a single couple type of conflict / resolution method, the choice can be made at random or by a parameter of the resolution method, said parameter possibly be by default or selected by the network regulator.
- Reduce downtime at the station so that the mission leaves the restriction zone before its start date,
- Reduce the time between stations so that the mission leaves the restriction zone before its start date.
- Increase downtime at the station so that the mission enters the area after its end date,
- Increase the times between stations, so that the mission enters the restriction zone after its end date.
- Reduce downtime at the station so that the mission leaves the limitation zone before entering the next mission,
- Reduce the time between stations so that the mission leaves the limitation zone before entering the next mission.
- Increase the downtime at the station so that the mission enters the limitation zone after leaving the previous mission.
- Increase the times between stations so that the mission enters the limitation zone after leaving the previous mission.
The implementation of the different resolution commands does not pose no difficulty for the skilled person.
It can also be noted that in the examples above, the two resolution commands that are given can be combined to form a third example: rather than changing the time at the station, or the time between stations, it is indeed possible to modify both times.
Other examples are similarly within the reach of human profession, so that the present invention can not be understood as limiting to the examples of resolution commands given above.
