Die Leiterplatte (4) weist in einem freibleibenden Streifenbereich (6) Kontaktpads (7) als Steuer- und Leistungsanschlüsse auf, mittels derer das Modul direkt in die schlitzartige Öffnung einer Systemleiterplatte (8) einlötbar ist.

Beschreibung
Intelligentes Leistungsmodul in Sandwich-Bauweise
Die Erfindung betrifft ein intelligentes Leistungsmodul mit Steuer- und Leistungsanschlüssen, bei dem parallel zu einem Substrat mit wenigstens einem Leistungshalbleiterbauelement in einer zweiten Ebene eine Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte angeordnet ist.
IPM(Intelligent-Power- odul) -Bauformen, also Module mit Leistungshalbleiterbauelementen und im Modul integrierten Logikbzw. Ansteuerungselementen, werden gegenwärtig beispielsweise bei Anwendungen im Zusammenhang mit Schweißgeräten, Stromver- sorgungen und in der Antriebstechnik eingesetzt. Insbesondere im Bereich der Asynchronmotoren werden zunehmend Frequenzumrichterlösungen zur DrehzahlSteuerung eingesetzt, wobei im Leistungsteil des Moduls insbesondere IGBT(Isolated-Gate- Bipolar-Transistor) -Leistungshalbleiter Verwendung finden.
Bei der Auswahl des Leistungssubstrats als Träger für die erforderlichen Leistungsbauelemente ist zu beachten, daß zur üblicherweise erforderlichen Kühlplatte hin einerseits eine hohe elektrische Isolation, andererseits aber auch ein guter Wärmeübergang gewährleistet ist. Letzteres ist mit den bekannten Leiterplatten aus Kunststoff nicht gegeben, so daß die Leistungsbauelemente derzeit je nach Applikationsanforderung auf relativ aufwendigen Substraten, beispielsweise DCB(Direct Copper Bonding) -Aluminiumoxid, IMS (Aluminium- Polyimid-Kupfer) oder Aluminiumnitrit aufgebaut werden. Die Logikelemente andererseits können ohne weiteres auf der Basis der bekannten Epoxi-Leiterplatten hergestellt werden.
Problematisch bei der herkömmlichen Modultechnik sind die Verbindungen zwischen den Logik- und den Leistungsbauelementen einerseits und vom Modul zu einer Systemleiterplatte andererseits. Diese Verbindungen, bei denen typischerweise L t- kontakte, Klemmen, Steckverbindungen oder Druckkontakte eingesetzt werden, sind oftmals eine qualitative Schwachstelle und verursachen hohe Kosten. Noch größer werden die Probleme mit der Verbindungstechnik, wenn aus Platzgründen vom Anwen- der ein Sandwich-Aufbau des Moduls gefordert wird, bei dem beispielsweise das Leistungssubstrat über Pins mit der darüber angeordneten Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte verbunden ist, wie es zum Beispiel aus der EP 0 463 589 A2 , vgl. dort Figur 1, bekannt ist. Im einzelnen wird bei diesem bekannten Modul das Bodensubstrat mit Leistungshalbleitern in den Rahmen des dortigen Modulgehäuses eingesetzt, es werden Verbindungslei- tungen angelötet und eine Vergußmasse eingebracht, woraufhin die Ansteuerplatine in das Modulgehäuse eingesetzt und mit den Verbindungsleitungen verlötet wird. Je nach Anwendung ra- gen verschiedene, an die Substrate extra angelötete Anschlußstifte aus dem Modulgehäuse heraus.
Nachteilig beim bekannten Sandwich-Modul ist neben der aufwendigen Verbindungstechnik vor allem, daß dieser Aufbau nur mit hohem Entwicklungs- bzw. Adaptierungsaufwand für kundenspezifische Module geeignet ist. So können insbesondere Änderungswünsche in der AnsteuerSchaltung eine veränderte Plazierung bzw. Gestaltung der Verbindungsleitungen bzw. der An- schlußstifte erforderlich machen, sich insofern also auf das Modul als Ganzes auswirken, das dann auch als Ganzes geändert werden muß.
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein intelligentes Leistungsmodul zu schaffen, das ohne aufwendige interne und externe Verbindungstechnik auskommt und deshalb mit geringem Aufwand herstellbar ist, und das hinsichtlich kundenspezifischer Ansteuerschaltungen leicht adaptierbar ist.
Erfindungsgemäß wird dies bei einem intelligenten Leistungs- odul der eingangs genannten Art dadurch erreicht, daß das Leistungssubstrat als Bodenplatte in ein Gehäuse aus elektrisch isolierendem Material eingesetzt ist und mit diesem zusammen ein Leistungsteil bildet, aus dessen der Ansteue- rungs-Leiterplatte zugewandten Oberseite wenigstens in einem Randbereich Anschlußstifte herausragen, die in Durchstecklö- tung mit Kontaktlöchern der Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte verlö- tet sind, wobei mindestens ein Streifenbereich entlang einer Seite der Leiterplatte von Kontaktlöchern und Ansteuerungs- Bauelementen frei bleibt, und daß die Leiterplatte an dieser Seite Kontaktpads als Steuer- und Leistungsanschlüsse aufweist, mittels derer das Modul direkt in die schlitzartige Öffnung einer Systemleiterplatte einlötbar ist.
Das erfindungsgemäße Modul besteht demnach prinzipiell aus einem Logikteil und einem konstruktiv eigenständigen bzw. unabhängigen und deshalb standardisierbaren Leistungsteil. Da die Anschlußstifte bereits Bestandteil des Leistungsteils sind, können die vom mechanischen Design her standardisierten Leistungsteile mittels Durchstecklötung auf einfache Weise mit einem einzigen Schwallötvorgang mit dem Ansteuerteil verbunden werden. Die Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte bietet dem Kun- den fast völlig freie Gestaltung der Ansteuerschaltung und durch die an der Leiterplatte selbst ausgebildeten Kontaktpads eine besonders einfache Verbindungsmöglichkeit zu einer weiteren Leiterplatte. Derartige direkt in eine Systemleiterplatte einlötbare Leiterplatten sind zwar an sich seit kurzem bekannt, sie wurden bisher jedoch nicht im Zusammenhang mit Power-Modulen verwendet, die typischerweise robustere konstruktive Gestaltungselemente wie Pins, Schrauben und Stecker einsetzen, insbesondere nicht im Zusammenhang mit IPM's.
Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche.
Die Erfindung wird im folgenden anhand eines Ausführungsbei- spiels unter Bezugnahme auf die Figuren der Zeichnung näher erläutert. Es zeigen: Figur 1 in perspektivischer Draufsicht ein erfindungsge- mäßes Modul im noch nicht in eine Systemleiter- platte eingelöteten Zustand;
Figur 2 in seitlicher Schnittdarstellung das gleiche Modul wie in Figur 1, jedoch im fertigen, eingelöteten Zustand.
Figur 1 zeigt beispielhalber ein Modul mit einem standardi- sierten Leistungsteil, bei dem beispielsweise ein Keramiksubstrat als Träger für Leistungsbauelemente 2 in ein Kunststoffgehäuse 1 als Bodenplatte eingesetzt ist. Üblicherweise wird an der Unterseite der Bodenplatte ein Kühlkörper 3 befestigt. Die Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte 4 ist in Figur 1 und Fi- gur 2 mit der Rückseite nach oben auf die oberen Enden der Anschlußsstifte 5 des Leistungsteils gesteckt, die auf der Rückseite der Leiterplatte 4 schwallgelötet werden. Der von Kontaktlöchern und Ansteuerungs-Bauelementen 12 frei bleibende Streifenbereich 6 der Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte 4 muß je- denfalls breit genug sein, um ein Ausbilden von Kontaktpads 7 an der Leiterplatte 4 selbst und ein Durchstecken durch den Öffnungsschlitz einer zweiten Leiterplatte, hier Systemleiterplatte 8 genannt, zu erlauben. Figur 2 zeigt ein in eine Systemleiterplatte 8 eingelötetes Modul mit den Lötstellen 9.
Es ist vorteilhaft, wenn, wie in den Figuren dargestellt, die Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte 4 möglichst zu allen Seiten hin größer als das Leistungsteil ist, dieses also überragt, da dann die Leiterplatte 4 im Nutzen mit den Leistungsteilen be- stückt und verlötet und erst anschließend in die einzelnen Module zerteilt werden kann. Die Leiterplatte 4 kann beispielsweise eine handelsübliche Kunststoffplatine, z. B. FR4, sein.
Besonders vorteilhaft ist die in den Figuren dargestellte
Ausführung, bei der die Ansteuerungs-Bauelemente 12 möglichst nur in einem Bereich der Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte 4 angeord- net sind, der der Oberseite 11 des Leistungsteils direkt gegenüber liegt. Daraus ergeben sich Schaltungs- und Platzvorteile. Insbesondere bei hohen Schaltfrequenzen im Bereich von 100 kHz sollten die elektronischen Ansteuerungs-Bauelemente 12 so nah wie möglich an den Gates der Leistungshalbleiterbauelemente 2 angeordnet sein. In Figur 1 sind im übrigen Abstandshalter 10 erkennbar, die integral am Gehäuse 1 angeformt sind und die die Leiterplatte 4 und das Leistungsteil gegenseitig abstützen. Die Anschlußstifte 5 des Leistungs- teils sind vorteilhaft, wie dargestellt, reihenförmig entlang der Außenränder der Oberseite des Leistungsteils angeordnet. Das Gehäuse 1 ist in Fig 1 nur verständnishalber mit einer seitlichen Öffnung 13 dargestellt.
Der erfindungsgemäße konstruktive Aufbau mit der Kombination einer kundenspezifischen Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte, die direkt in eine zweite Leiterplatte einlötbar ist, mit einem standardisierten Leistungsteil gewährleistet einerseits eine einfache Bestückung und geringe Montagekosten. Andererseits gewährleistet dieser Aufbau, daß sich wichtige Teile der An- steuerungsschaltung, wie beispielsweise Treiber, direkt über bzw. unter den im Leistungsteil gehäusten Bauelementen 2 befinden. Die Module sind in einem weiten Leistungsbereich einsetzbar, z.B.: 600 V /5-30 A, 1200 V /2,5-15 A.

Claims

Patentansprüche
1. Intelligentes Leistungsmodul, mit Steuer- und Leistungsanschlüssen, bei dem parallel zu einem Substrat mit wenigstens einem Leistungshalbleiterbauelement (2) in einer zweiten Ebene eine Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte (4) angeordnet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Leistungssubstrat als Bodenplatte in ein Gehäuse (1) aus elektrisch isolierendem Material eingesetzt ist und mit diesem zusammen ein Leistungsteil bildet, aus dessen der Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte (4) zugewandten Oberseite (11) wenigstens in einem Randbereich Anschlußstifte (5) herausragen, die in Durchstecklötung mit Kontaktlöchern der Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte (4) verlötet sind, wobei mindestens ein Streifenbereich (6) entlang einer Seite der Leiterplatte (4) von Kontaktlöchern und Ansteuerungs-Bauele enten (12) frei bleibt, und daß die Leiterplatte (4) an dieser Seite Kontaktpads (7) als Steuer- und Leistungsanschlüsse aufweist, mittels de- rer das Modul direkt in die schlitzartige Öffnung einer Systemleiterplatte (8) einlötbar ist.
2. Intelligentes Leistungsmodul nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Ansteuerungs-Bauelemente (12) in einem Bereich der Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte (4) angeordnet sind, der der Oberseite (11) des Leistungsteils direkt gegenüber liegt.
3. Intelligentes Leistungsmodul nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die im wesentlichen rechteckige Ansteuerungs-Leiterplatte (4) die Oberseite (11) des Leistungsteils zu allen Seiten hin überragt .
