  7. The method according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the data of the particular counterfeit bank note are linked with an indication of time permitting conclusions to be drawn on the time of appearance of the particular counterfeit bank note.
  8. The method according to claim 6 or 7, characterized in that matches or similarities of the indication of place and/or time of the particular bank note with respect to the indications of place and/or time already stored in the database are ascertained.
  9. The method according to any of claims 2 to 8, characterized in that data stored in the database from counterfeit bank notes are made available for the monitoring of bank notes for the presence of counterfeit bank notes.
  10. The method according to any of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the processing of the data from counterfeit bank notes is effected in dependence on the type of bank note, in particular the currency and/or denomination of the bank notes.
  11. A system for monitoring bank notes for the presence of counterfeit bank notes, comprising:
    a plurality of external locations each having a sensor device (91) and a control device (92), whereby
    the particular sensor device (91) detects data of each bank note to be monitored, said detected data permitting an assessment of the authenticity of the bank note, and
    the particular control device (90) assesses the authenticity of the particular bank note on the basis of the data detected by the particular sensor device, characterized by an interface (92) at each of the plurality of external locations which, under the control of the control device (90), sets up a connection via a communications network (10) from the particular external location to a database (23) disposed at a central location in the event that the assessment of the authenticity of the particular bank note by the particular control device (90) leads to the conclusion that a counterfeit and/or suspect bank note is present, and the data of the particular bank note detected by the particular sensor device are transferred to the database (23).
  12. The system according to claim 11, characterized in that the database (23) stores the data of the particular counterfeit bank note.
  13. The system according to claim 12, characterized in that the database (23) is connected to a control unit (20, 21) which compares the data of each counterfeit bank note to data already stored in the database (23).
  14. The system according to any of claims 11 to 13, characterized in that the particular control device (90) links the data of the particular counterfeit bank note with an indication of place.
  15. The system according to any of claims 11 to 14, characterized in that the particular control device (90) links the data of the particular counterfeit bank note with an indication of time.
  16. The system according to claim 14 or 15, characterized in that the control unit (20, 21) compares the indications of place and/or time of the particular counterfeit bank note to the indications of place and/or time stored in the database (23).
  17. The system according to claim 12 or 16, characterized in that the control unit (20, 21) transfers the data stored in the database (23) from counterfeit bank notes via the communications network (10) to the control devices (90), and the control devices (90) utilize the transferred data for the monitoring of bank notes for the presence of counterfeit bank notes.
  18. The system according to claim 17, characterized in that the data of the database (23) are stored in the control device (90).
