Abstract

An instrument (100) for measuring the medullary canal (20) of a long bone (10) in order to determine the proper size for a stem centralizer (102) is provided. The instrument (100) includes an elongated central portion (104) defining opposed first (106) and second (108) ends and a contact portion (110). The contact portion (110) extends from the first (106) end or the second (108) end of the elongated central portion (104). The contact portion (110) has a contact area (112) for contact with the medullary canal (20) and defines a relief area (114) for providing clearance between the instrument (100) and the medullary canal (20).
