If the opposite is the case, the sequence returns to step 304, so that the first and second partial sequences are reproduced repeatedly in succession via the display device.

Description

The invention relates to a value or security document, in particular an ID document, with a display device and a method for reproducing an image sequence on the display device of a value or security document and a corresponding computer program product.

Documents with an integrated electronic circuit are known in the art in various forms per se. For example, there are value and security documents in predominantly paper-based form, such as a banknote, as an electronic passport, or as a plastic-based chip card, in particular as a so-called smart card, in contact-based, contactless or dual-interface design.

In particular, various radio detection systems are known for such prior art documents, also referred to as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems. Previously known RFID systems generally include at least one transponder and a transceiver unit. The transponder is also referred to as an RFID tag, RFID chip, RFID tag, RFID tag or radio tag; the transceiver unit is also referred to as a reader, reader or reader. Furthermore, integration with servers, services and other systems, such as cash register systems or merchandise management systems via a so-called middle goods, is often provided.

The data stored on a contactless, such as an RFID transponder data are made available via radio waves. At low frequencies, this is done inductively via a near field, at higher frequencies via an electromagnetic far field. The distance over which a transponder can be addressed and read varies due to the design (passive / active), the frequency band used, the transmission strength and other environmental influences between a few centimeters and more than one kilometer.

An RFID transponder typically includes a microchip and an antenna housed in a carrier or housing or printed on a substrate. Active RFID transponders also have an energy source, such as a battery, in contrast to passive transponders.

Desweiteren werden diese in Papier oder Kunststoff, wie zum Beispiel in Wert- und Sicherheitsdokumenten, insbesondere Geldscheinen und Ausweisdokumenten, integriert.RFID transponders can be used for various documents, in particular in chip cards, for example for the realization of an electronic wallet or for electronic ticketing. Furthermore, these are integrated in paper or plastic, such as in value and security documents, especially banknotes and identity documents.

From the DE 201 00 158 U1 For example, an identification and security card of laminated and / or molded plastics is known, which includes an integrated semiconductor with an antenna for performing an RFID method. From the DE 10 2004 008 841 A1 Furthermore, a book-like value document, such as a passport has become known, which includes a transponder unit.

Out US 2005/0211784 A1 a smart card is known in which a user can store various information and data. The smart card has a display device, a processor and an electronic memory.

Security or value documents can be equipped with a contact-type or contactless interface, for example an RFID interface, or with an interface that permits both wired and wireless communication with a chip card terminal. In the latter case, one speaks of so-called dual-interface smart cards. Smart card communication protocols and methods are specified, for example, in the ISO 14443 standard.

Ein Schutzmechanismus für Reisedokumente zum Schutz gegen unbefugtes Auslesen der Daten aus einem solchen Dokument ist als "Basic Access Control" bekannt, vgl. hierzu "Machine Readable Travel Document", Technical Report, PKI for Machine Readable Travel Documents Offering ICC Read-OnlyA disadvantage of such documents with RFID functionality is that the RFID interface is addressed without the consent of the document bearer can be. From the unpublished patent application at the time of filing DE 10 2006 031 422.0-53 The same applicant is a value or security document with a display device for outputting a machine-readable optical signal, which is not cognitively detectable by a user known. The disclosure of this patent application is hereby made in its entirety the disclosure content of the present patent application.

The invention is based on the object to provide an improved value or security document and a method for reproducing an image sequence on a display device of a value or security document and a corresponding computer program product.

According to embodiments of the invention, a value or security document with an electronic display device is provided, which can be controlled to reproduce a picture sequence. The image sequence includes at least two different two-dimensional images of a holder of the value or security document. For example, the first and second images are facial images of the owner from different views, in particular a face image in frontal view and a facial image in side view.

The reproduction of an image sequence with images of the owner of the value or security document from different views has the advantage over a static display of a single two-dimensional image that makes the verification of the value or security document more secure. It has in fact been found that often the frontal face image usually contained in a passport is not sufficient for a secure verification. To increase the security both in the visual verification, for example by a border officer or police officers, as well as the machine verification by means of a reading device according to the invention, therefore, at least two images of the owner in a sequence of images played back on the display device sequentially. In particular, low False Rejection Rates (FRR) and False Acceptance Rates (FAR) can be achieved during machine verification.

A further advantage compared to the representation of a three-dimensional image is that the data volume required for storing the image sequence is only proportional to the number of images, so that, for example, an image sequence consisting of two images stores only twice as much data as for a single image have to. It is a further particular advantage that the images of the image sequence can each be displayed on the display device with the same high resolution ratio. For the reproduction of a three-dimensional image, however, the storage of a correspondingly large volume of data on the value or security document would be required, which is relatively expensive, or the reduction of the image resolution and thus the brilliance of the presentation.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document has an electronic circuit for driving the display device. The electronic circuit may be designed so that the image sequence is displayed repeatedly. The repetitive display of the image sequence is particularly advantageous for the visual verification of the value or security document.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the image sequence includes an enlarged partial image of one of the other images of the image sequence. For example, the enlarged partial image shows a particularly characteristic feature of the owner of the value or security document.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document has an operating element for activating a zoom function for an enlarged representation of an image reproduced on the display device.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document has an operating element for starting the reproduction of the image sequence. This has the advantage that the reproduction of the image sequence, in particular the repetitive reproduction of the image sequence, does not take place continuously, but only after actuation of the operating element. By operating the same or another operating element, the reproduction in embodiments of the invention can be stopped again.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document has an operating element for navigation in the image sequence. This allows a user of the value or security document to selectively select a particular image of the image sequence for display on the display device.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document contains a manipuland by which a user interface is realized. The manipulandum allows the user, for example, to start and / or stop the playback of the image sequence, to activate and / or deactivate the zooming function and / or to navigate within the image sequence. The manipulandum may be formed, for example, as a slider or wheel.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the display of the value or security document is designed as a bistable display, in particular as electrophoretic display or rotary element display, as electrochromic display, liquid crystal display, LED display, in particular inorganic LED or organic LED display, bar graph or a display based on the electrowetting effect. It can also be a hybrid ad that connects different display technologies.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document has an interface for supplying power to the display device and / or the electronic circuit. The interface may be contact-based, wireless or designed as a so-called dual-interface interface or as a combination thereof.

Bevorzugt erfolgt die Kommunikation über eine induktive Kopplung beispielweise in Anlehnung an die ISO 14443.According to one embodiment of the invention, the interface for contactless communication is formed with a reading device, for example by means of electrical, capacitive, inductive, magnetic, optical or another physical coupling method. The communication preferably takes place via an inductive coupling, for example in accordance with ISO 14443.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the interface of the value or security document has an antenna for energetic of a mobile frequency, such as in the range of 900 MHz, 1800 MHz or 1900 MHz. For example, if the owner of the value or security document carries a mobile telephone, in particular a so-called mobile phone, the fields emitted by the mobile device can be received by the antenna of the security or security document and used for the energy supply of the security document ,

In particular, for this purpose, the signals which are usually also transmitted in the standby mode of such a mobile radio device can be used for this purpose. This is advantageous, in particular, when the value or security document has a rechargeable energy store which is charged via the mobile radio signals or fields received by the antenna of the value or security document.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the energy store is designed as a capacitor or as a rechargeable battery. The capacity of the energy store is preferably selected such that sufficient energy is available for the reproduction of the image sequence on the display device at least over a period of time required for a security verification.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the image sequence includes at least one image for reproducing a biometric feature of the owner, such as one, several or all fingerprints, an iris scan, or the like. The reproduction of such a biometric feature via the display device may be used to visually or mechanically verify the corresponding feature.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the image sequence includes at least one image for reproducing plain text information such as the name, address, date of birth, and the like of the owner of the asset or security document.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the image sequence includes at least one image of a child assigned to the owner of the security or value document. Preferably, the image sequence includes at least two facial images of the child from different views. Alternatively or additionally, the image sequence may also include one or more images of one or more persons associated with the owner of the security or value document, such as family members, in particular the wife and / or siblings.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the image sequence includes at least one image for outputting a visually and / or cognitively imperceptible machine-readable signal. This makes it possible for a user of the value or security document to secretly and / or unrecognized issue confidential information that can be automatically captured by a reading device and further processed. This may be, for example, a cryptographic key, encrypted and / or signed information, transaction numbers, bar codes, a period of validity, authorization information, personalization data or the like.

For example, the subject image is a 2D bar code that is visually perceptible, but not cognitively detectable by a user. The image may also include a digital watermark that includes the machine-collectable information. Furthermore, the output of the image can take place in an optical frequency range outside the visible spectrum, in particular in the IR, NIR or in the UV range. A display device suitable for this purpose is, in particular, a photoluminescence erasure display (Field Quenching Photoluminescence Emission Device - FQPED). Furthermore, one or more pixels of the image can display temporally variable intensity, gray and / or color values, so that a machine-readable signal can be output with the aid of amplitude, pulse width, phase and / or frequency modulation.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the value or security document has means for access protection to at least a subsequence of the image sequence, wherein the subsequence is only reproduced if an access condition is fulfilled.

For example, the image sequence is not played back until the access condition is met. Without previous fulfillment of the access condition, therefore, no image of the image sequence is output on the display device. Alternatively, the image sequence in divided first and second subsequences, each containing at least one image. The pictures of the first subsequence are reproduced on the display even if the access condition is not satisfied. In contrast, the reproduction of the images of the second subsequence only takes place if the access condition is fulfilled. This is advantageous if the images of the second subsequence include sensitive data, such as biometric features, transaction numbers, cryptographic keys, or the like.

According to one embodiment of the invention, a so-called basic access control or an extended access control is realized by the means for access protection of the value or security document.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the reading device must first acquire information from the value or security document. This can be done by optical detection of printed data on the document, for example by reading the data from the so-called machine readable zone (MRZ), which is also referred to as ICAO line. The detection of the information may also be performed by optically reading the display device to detect a machine-readable signal transmitted by the display device before the access condition is met.

By means of the reading device, the information captured by the value or security document is then processed further, for example by generating a cryptographic key with the aid of the acquired information and a master key. With the help of this cryptographic key, an access command of the reading device is encrypted and the access signal is transmitted in the encrypted form to the value or security document. The value or security document then attempts to decrypt the access command using its known cryptographic key. Since this can only be achieved if the cryptographic key generated by the reading device is correct, this gives an access condition. Instead of a symmetric encryption method, an asymmetric encryption method or another cryptographic method can also be used.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the various data to be sequentially repetitively stored in an electronic memory of an electronic circuit of the document, wherein the electronic circuit is designed for contactless communication. Also, the data to be displayed can be stored in another circuit or in the display device itself. The one or more display drivers required to display the images on the display device may be integrated directly into the integrated electronic circuit or implemented as separate discrete components or implemented as an integral part of the display device.

Elements of the following embodiments that correspond to each other are identified by the same reference numerals.

The FIG. 1 10 shows a schematic block diagram of an embodiment of a document 100 according to the invention. The document 100 is a value or security document, such as an ID document, a passport, an identity card, a driver's license, an admission card, an authorization card, a bank card, a credit card or the like.

The document 100 has a display device 102 integrated into the document body. This can be an electronic display device based on a Do not act illuminated, backlit, frontlit, or preferably self-luminous display. Preferably, the display device 102 is a bistable display device; Namely, in a bistable display device, an image can be reproduced permanently even without power supply. For example, if the value or security document is not energized or deactivated, then on a bistable display device, for example, the owner's facial image may be displayed in frontal view.

In particular, the display device 102 can be an electrophoretic or electrochromic display, a rotary element display, an LED display, in particular an inorganic, organic or hybrid LED display, an LCD display in various embodiments (for example twisted nematic, super twisted Nematic, cholesteric, nematic), a ferroelectric display, a display based on the electrowetting effect, a hybrid display or a display based on a flexible display, as commercially available, for example, from Citala (www.citala.com) ( compare US 2006/0250535 A1 and WO 2007/054944 ).

The display device 102 is preferably actively lit, as is the case, for example, with an OLED display unit. If the display device 102 is designed to be actively lit, for example as an OLED display, then this has the advantages of a high angle observation possibility, a good luminous intensity and a good contrast ratio, so that an image reproduced on the display device 102 can be read well even under unfavorable lighting conditions.
The document 100 has an electronic circuit 104. The circuit 104 includes a driver 106 for driving the display device 102. Furthermore, the circuit 104 is designed to execute program instructions 108. The circuit 104 includes an electronic memory 110 for storing an image sequence. In the embodiment considered here, the image sequence consists of the images B1 to Bn, wherein a corresponding image data record is stored in the electronic memory 110 for each of the images.

The document 100 has an antenna 112 connected to the circuit 104. The antenna 112 serves to supply the circuit 104 and the display 102 with electrical energy.

For example, the circuit 104 is formed as an RFID chip. In this case, the antenna 112 serves both for power supply and for communication with a reading device (cf. the embodiment of FIG FIG. 8 ).

The circuit 104 for executing the program instructions 108, the electronic memory 110, the driver 106, and the display device 102 may be implemented as separate electrically active elements, such as discrete devices, or may be implemented in whole or in part as a single integrated circuit.

The image sequence stored in the memory 110 includes at least a first image data set B1 for displaying a first image of the owner of the document 100, such as a facial image in frontal view. Furthermore, the image sequence includes at least a second image data set B2 for reproducing a second image of the owner, such as a face image in a side view.

For example, if energy is injected into the document 100 via the antenna 112, the execution of the program instructions 108 is automatically started. The program instructions 108 then control the driver 106 so that the image data sets B1 and B2 are successively reproduced in this order via the display device 102. For example, the reproduction of each of the images of the image sequence is performed for a predetermined period of, for example, 0.5 to 2 seconds before switching to the next image of the image sequence. The reproduction of the image sequence can be performed repeatedly as long as energy is coupled into the antenna 112. The duration of the reproduction of each image of the image sequence may be fixed or selectable via a user interface.

The image sequence may include more images than the face image in frontal and side view. For example, the owner's face is taken from several different views, from one view to the next Shooting angle is varied. The resulting sequential image data sets can be output via the display device 102 in the form of a film sequence. Since the acceptance angle varies from one image data set to the next, this enables rapid verification of the document 100 with a high recognition probability.

In addition to the pictorial representation of a person or persons, the image data sets may include biometric features, such as individual fingerprints, or all of the owner's fingerprints, an iris image, or a signature of the owner. Furthermore, the sequence stored in the electronic memory 110 may also include one or more image data sets with visually plain text information and / or only machine-detectable information.

This may be, for example, an indication in plain text, such as the name, address and date of birth of the owner of the document 100, and / or only a machine-detectable signal, such as a bar code, in particular a 2D bar code, or an image signal in a visually imperceptible spectral range, an unrecognizable to the human eye repetition frequency, an integrated digital watermark or the like.

The FIGS. 2 to 5 show by way of example the reproduction of such an image sequence on the display device 102 of a document 100. After the start of the reproduction, the image B1 is reproduced first, which is a face image in a frontal view of the holder. Thereafter, the next image B2 of the image sequence is automatically changed, showing a face image in a side view. The following image B3 of the image sequence contains information in clear text to the owner of the document 100, that is to say, for example, his name, date of birth, an identification number and, in addition, a 1D or 2D bar code. The subsequent image Bn of the image sequence may contain further information in plain text or in machine-readable form, such as a transaction number or a cryptographic key.

The FIG. 6 FIG. 12 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of an embodiment of the document 100. In step 200, a power supply of the document 100 is turned on. This can be done by placing the document 100 in a field through which energy for supplying power to the display device and / or the circuit of the document is coupled into the document. If the document has its own power supply, such as a rechargeable battery, then step 200 may also be implemented by operating an operating element to turn on power to a user.

After coupling or switching on the power supply, the program start automatically takes place in step 202 for executing the program instructions by the electronic circuit of the document 100. For this purpose, first an index i of the image sequence to be reproduced is initialized in step 204. In step 206, the image data of the image data set Bi of the first image of the image sequence is read from the electronic memory of the document, and in step 208 the driver for displaying the image Bi is correspondingly driven.

In step 210 it is checked whether the index i has already reached the maximum number n of pictures of the picture sequence. If this is not the case, the index i is incremented in step 212 and the flow returns to step 206, so that the subsequent image data set Bi is read and reproduced via the display device. If the opposite is the case, the flow returns to step 204, so that the reproduction of the image sequence starts all over again.

The FIG. 7 shows a further embodiment of a document according to the invention 100. In the embodiment of the FIG. 7 Document 100 has an energy storage 114 connected between antenna 112 and circuit 104. The energy storage 114 may be, for example, a capacitor or a rechargeable battery.

The antenna 112 may be tuned to a mobile frequency in the range of, for example, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz or 1900 MHz. If the owner of the document 100 carries a mobile device 116, such as a conventional GSM mobile phone, so does the mobile device 116 in standby mode at intervals from a mobile signal 118 from. This mobile radio signal 118 is directed to the base station associated with the mobile device 116, but is also received by the antenna 112 because it is in the vicinity of the mobile device 116, for example in the same jacket pocket of the owner of the document 100 in which also Document 100 is located. Due to the reception of the mobile radio signal 118 by the antenna 112, electrical energy is coupled into the document 100, which can be stored in the energy storage 114. For example, this will charge the capacitor or rechargeable battery of energy storage 114.

The document 100 may include a user interface 120 having one or more controls. For example, the user interface 120 has a control element 122. When the control element 122 is actuated, the power supply is switched on so that the reproduction of the image sequence starts with the images B1 to Bn. By repeated actuation of the operating element 122, the power supply and thus the reproduction of the image sequence can be switched off.

If the display device 102 is designed as a bistable display device, preferably after receipt of a switch-off signal from the operating element 122, a specific image of the image sequence, such as the image B1, is reproduced on the display device, and then the power supply is switched off. This has the advantage that even when the power supply is switched off, this image B1 remains visible on the display device.

The user interface 122 may include another operating element 124 with a zoom function. By operating the operating element 124, a user of the document can enlarge the image currently displayed on the display device 102. For this purpose, the program instructions 108 have corresponding program instructions 126 for realizing the zoom function.

Alternatively or additionally, at least one of the image data sets of the image sequence may include an enlarged detail view of one of the other images of the image sequence.

The user interface 120 may further include controls 128 and 130 for navigating the user in the image sequence. By repeatedly operating the control element 128 or 130, the user may select a particular image within the image sequence so that this desired image is displayed on the display device 102.

For example, by operating the power supply control element 122, an operating mode is selected in which the image sequence is repetitively displayed, each image of the image sequence being displayed for a certain period of time of, for example, 0.5 to 2 seconds before moving to the next image Picture sequence is transferred. This corresponds to the flowchart of FIG. 6 , On the other hand, if one of the controls 124, 128 or 130 is operated, this repeating playback mode of the image sequence is interrupted. The image currently being reproduced on the display device 102 remains there until the user either returns to the repeating playback mode by renewed actuation of the operating element 122 or selects another image of the image sequence by operating one of the operating elements 128 or 130.

The operating elements 122, 124, 128 and / or 130 can also be realized by a single manipuland, such as a slide switch with different locking positions, a rotary knob, a touch-sensitive input panel or another multi-function switch. The manipulandum can be superimposed on the display.

The operating elements 122, 124, 128 and / or 130 or a corresponding manipulandum can also be used in an external device, such as an external device. a reader that can communicate with the document 100 to transmit corresponding user commands.

The FIG. 8 Fig. 12 shows a block diagram of another embodiment of a document 100 according to the invention with a reading device 132. The reading device 132 may be a stationary or mobile reading device or a reading system consisting of a reading unit connected to a computer.

In the embodiment considered here, an image sequence consisting of a first subsequence of n image data sets B1 to Bn and a second subsequence consisting of m image data sets b1 to bm is stored in the electronic memory 110 of the document 100. The first subsequence with the image data sets B1 to Bn contains images which do not contain information that is particularly in need of protection, for example facial images of the owner of the document 100. The images of the second subsequence with the image data sets b1 to bm contain information that is particularly worthy of protection, such as Example biometric features, cryptographic keys, transaction numbers or other confidential information.

The program instructions 108 include program instructions 134 for implementing access control on the pictures of the second subsequence. This is to ensure that the images of the second subsequence are reproduced on the display device 102 only on the basis of a request by a location authorized for this purpose. By program instructions 134, for example, a so-called access control, which may be designed as a basic access control and / or extended access control implemented.

The reader 132 is for executing program instructions 136 that include program instructions 138 that correspond to the program instructions 134 for implementing the access control. The reading device 132 has, for example, a contactless interface 140 for supplying energy to the document 100 by coupling energy into its antenna 112 and for communication with the document 100.

The reading device 132 has access to a master key 142 and a user interface 144.

When energy is injected via the antenna 112 of the document 100, as in the embodiment of FIG FIG. 1 , automatically the execution of the program instructions 108. In this case, initially only the first subsequence with the images B1 to Bn is reproduced on the display device 102. Even if the second subsequence is to be reproduced with the images b1 to bn, the fulfillment of an access condition is required first.

For this purpose, the reading device 132 reads information from the document 100. This can be done, for example, optically by recording data printed on the document 100 or by recording data displayed on the display device 102. These data acquired by the reader 132 are processed by the program instructions 138. For example, these data are linked to the master key 142, so that a symmetric cryptographic key is generated, which is also present in the program instructions 108.

The program instructions 138 then generate an access command which is encrypted with this symmetric cryptographic key. This access command is transmitted via the data interface, in particular contactless interface 140 to the document 100. The program instructions 108 attempt to decrypt the access command with the symmetric cryptographic key present there. If successful, the access condition is met and the reader 132 is deemed authorized to access the second subsequence. Thereafter, the images of both the first and second subsequences are successively displayed on the display device 102.

The FIG. 9 shows a corresponding method, wherein the steps 300 to 312 the steps 200 to 212 of FIG. 6 correspond. If the check in step 310 shows that the index i is equal to the number of pictures n of the first subsequence, then the flow goes to step 311, where it is checked whether the access condition for accessing the picture data of the second subsequence already exists is satisfied. If this is not the case, the flow returns to step 304, so that the first subsequence of image data B1 to Bn is reproduced again.

If the opposite is the case, the flow proceeds to step 314, in which the index j of the second subsequence is initialized. In step 316, the image data set bj of the second subsequence is read and output in step 318 by corresponding driving of the driver on the display device. In step 320 it is checked whether the end of the second subsequence has already been reached, namely by comparing the index j with the number of images of the second subsequence m. If not, then in step 322 the index j is incremented and flow returns to step 316. If the opposite is the case, the sequence returns to step 304, so that the first and second partial sequences are reproduced repeatedly in succession via the display device.
