nooners.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that l, @Swann lllnsnnn, a citizen ot the llnited States, residing at Dowagiac, li/lichigan, have invented certain new and useful .improvements in Stove liloors or lWindows, of which the following is a. specification.
rilhis invention relates to improvements in stove doors or windows.
Vlhe main objects of this invention are: lirst, to provide an improved stove door or window in which the panels are etlectively supported, and one in which the metal parts may be readily polished or finished without soiling the panels, and the panels washed uf'ithout spoiling the outer iinishing .met-al Darts.
Further oliijects, and objects relating to structural. details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to i'ollow.
lf accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following speciiication.
The invention is clearly deiined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this speciiication, in which:
Figure i is a iront view of a stove door embodying the features of my invention. Fig. H is aI front view of the outer facing or finishing irame removed. Fig. llli is a rear view. Fig. lV is a longitudinal section talren on a line corresponding to line L -(JC oi? Fig. lf. Fig. "i7 is a transverse section taken on a. line corresponding to line 5 ot Fig. l. Fig. Vl is a detail section taken on a line corresponding to line GWG of l? li.
in the drawings, similar reference characters roter to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are talren looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends ot the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, my improved stove door or window consists oiE the main trame l, comprising side, end and cross trame pieces. The cross frame pieces are preferably litshaped in cross section, as illustrated. The panels 2 are of isinglass or other suitable transparent material. rlihe main iframe is provided with panel support ing lugs 3, on it-s inner side. rlhe panels Specification of Letters Patent.

are clamped to the main frame by means oit the panel clamping irame 4. This clamp ing` trame comprises oit side, end and cross pieces arranged to correspond to the side, end and cross pieces of the main trame.
The clamping trame is secured to the main frame by means oi the bolts 5. The
Y 'liho main frame 1 is provided with seats G for the nuts. Bolts having screw heads are preferably used. The pieces of the panel clamping' vtrame are preferably longitudinally grooved, as shown in Fig. Vil, to receive the panel supporting lugs 3.
The tacing or finishing traine 7 comprises side, end and cross bars, ar `anged to correspend to and cover the side, end and cross bars of the main trame. The cross bars of the facing frame are adapted to embrace the cross bars of the main trame, as clearly appears in Fig. VI. By forming these main iframe cross bars rtl-shaped and providing longitudinal grooves oit' corresponding shape in the :facing iframe, the facing frame is when drawn into place by the nut 8, proporly centered and supported. rlhe facing or 'finishing frame may be removed and polished or finished, without soiling the panels, and can be quickly replaced. Or, il" it is desired to wash the panels, the finishing or i'acing frame can be removed so that it is not soiled.
'lihe structure illustrated is a stove door, and the main trame is provided with hinges 9, at one end, and a latch l() at the other, the latch spindle 11. being arranged through the end cross piece of the frame in a central posit-ion. The clamping frame d is oilset at 19, to accommodate the spindle. The -liaeing iii-ame is oiiset at 13 to accommodate the spindle. The facing frame is provided with projecting arm-like housings let for the hinge members 9. rlhe iframes are pre'teihably concave-convex in general form, which facilitates the fitting oi them together. My improvements greatly facilitate the cleaning or blacking ott a stove or if desired, the outer frame may be suitably ni ckeled or iinished otherwise.
li have illustrated and described my improvements in detail in a practical embodiment. l am aware that considerable structural variations are possible, but as such variations will no doubt be obvious to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates, I have not attempted to illustrate or describe the same herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a structure of the class described, the combination with the main frame comprising side, end and cross bars, the cross bars being A-shaped in cross section and having panel supporting lugs on their inner sides, the rear end bar being provided with projecting hinge members; a latch comprising a spindle arranged through the front end bar of said main frame; panels arranged on the rear side of said main frame between its panel supporting` lugs; a panel clamping frame comprising side, end and cross bars corresponding to said main frame, the cross bars of said clamping frame being grooved to receive said panel supporting lugs of said main frame, the front end bar thereof being offset to receive said latch spindle; a facing frame comprising side end and cross bars adapted to cover said main frame, the cross bars being adapted to embrace the cross bars of said main frame, the rear end bar being provided with proljecting housings for said main frame hinge members, the front end bar being offset to receive said latch spindle; clamping bolts arranged through said frames at the crossing points of the cross bars thereof; clamping nuts for said panel frame arranged on said bolts, said main frame being provided with seats for said nuts; and clamping nuts on said bolts for said facing frame.
2. In a struct-ure of the class described, the combination with the main frame comprising side, end and cross bars, the rear end bar being provided with projecting hinge members; a latch comprising a spindle arranged through the front end bar of said main frame; panels arranged on the rear side of said main frame; a panel clamping frame comprising side, end and cross bars corresponding to said main frame, the front end bar thereof being offset to receive said latch spindle; a facing frame comprising side, end and cross bars adapted to cover said main frame, the rear end bar being provided with projecting housings for said main frame hinge members, the front end bar being offset to receive said latch spindle; clamping bolts arranged through said frames at the crossing points of the cross bars thereof; clamping nuts for said panel frame arranged on said bolts, said main frame being provided with seats for said nuts; and clamping nuts on said bolts for said facing frame.
3. In a structure of the class described, the combination with the main fra-me comprising side, end and cross bars, the cross bars being A-shaped in cross section and having panel supporting lugs on their inner sides; panels arranged on the rear side of said main frame between its panel supporting lugs; a panel clamping frame comprising side, end and cross bars corresponding to said main frame, the cross bars of said clamping frame being adapted to receive said panel supporting lugs of said main frame; a facing frame comprising side, end and cross bars adapted to cover said main frame, the cross bars being adapted to embrace the cross bars of said main frame; clamping bolts arranged through said frames; clamping nuts for said panel frame arranged on said bolts; and clamping nuts on said bolts for said facing frame.
Li. In a structure of the class described, the combination with the main frame; panels arranged on the rear side of said main frame; a panel clamping frame arranged o-n the inside of said main frame; a facing frame having frame pieces disposed to correspond to said main frame and arranged on the outer side thereof t-o cover the same; a clamping bolt arranged through said frames; and nuts arranged on said bolt, there being a nut arranged between the main and the facing frame to permit the removal of the facing frame without loosening the panel clamping frame.
5. In a structure of the class described, the combination with the main frame; panels arranged on the rear side of said main frame; a panel clamping frame arranged on the inside of said main frame; a facing frame having frame pieces disposed to correspond to said main frame and arranged o-n the outer side thereof to cover the same, and means for securing said frames together adapted to permit the ready removal of the facing frame without disturbing the panel clamping frame, for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
