' and fastening small packages of papers such as envelops, checks, etcetera.
The invention has for its object to provide an improved fastening device of this kind constructed and used as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
Referring to the :uzcmnpanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a package of cnvelops held together by a fastening device constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 3. is a plan view of a roll of papers held together by means of the fastening device constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 3 is a side view of the fastening device partly in longitudinal section and broken away. and shown with its ends secured together. Fig. t is a detail view in perspective oi the two ends of a fastening device broken away.
The device constructed in accordance with this invention consists of a thin narrow strip ot' metal 1 ot a suitable length to he wound about a package of papers and formed with an enlarged broadened end 3 t'roul which projects a reduced end portion 3 teriuiuating in a tapering point -i. The other end ot' the fastening strip 1 is formed with a tapering end 5.. The enlarged end 2.
oi the strip 1 has a couple ottransverse slits iade therein which, when the end 3 is bent up to the shape shown in Fig; 4. tornl a couple of alined openings (3 oneither side of the transverse bridging portion't. When it is desired to use the fastening device it is wound abouta package of papers such as the bundle of euvelops 8 in Fig. lor the roll of papers 9 in Fig. 2 and the reduced projecting portion 3 is bent over upon the enlarged portion 2 with the projection 3 extending through the openings 6 leaving a space between the projection 3 and the bridging piece 7. The strip 1 having been wound about the package of papers its pointed end 5 is pushed through the openings 6. the. projection 23 serving as a guide on which the pointed end 5 slides when the latter is pushed through the opening (3 and covering. the opening 10 formed by the raised transverse portion 7. The pointed end 5 is then bent over the bridging portion i:-upon the strip 1. as shown in Figs. 1. 2, and 3. and is secured by pushing the end 5 through a hole 11 in the strip 1. the end 5 projecting beneath the strip 1. In order to hoid the projection' l in place its end 4. is pushed through a hole 4 in the strip 1 and beneath the latter, as shown in Fig. 3.
Y It will be seen that by means of this invention a simple and t('01l()llli(tll fastening device is providedwhich is readily and etfeetively secured at its ends so as to avoid becoming unfasteneth What I claim is:-
i. In a fastening device of the kind described. a thin narrow metallic strip formed with an enlarged broadened portion adjacent to one end and having a transverse raised bridging portion with alined slots. and a reduced portion projecting from the end ot' said broadened portion and bent over upon the latter and extending beneath and through said bridging portion. the other end oi the strip being mo 'able through said bridging portion and bentv over thesaine and adapted to be detachably secured to the Fastening strip.
2. in a fastening device of the kind described. a thin narrow metallic strip of a lengthto be wound about. a package and formed at one end with a broadened )0!- tion and with a raised bridging portion laving alined slots and with an opening adjacent to said bridging portion and a reduced narrow projection exteinting from the end of the broadened portion and bent over upon the same and extending through the bridging portion and secured at its end in the its end, said end overlapping the reduced opening in saidbroadened portion, the other In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my end of the strip having a hole adjacent no signature in. presence of two Witnesses.
portion at the other end of the strip and I PARLEY BRINK' extending from said bridging portion and "Witnesses:
bent over the same and detachebly engaging LEWIS WILLI, a a. hole adjacent the end of the strip. MEADE SHULER.
