UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN WILLIAM MEINECKE, 0F JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR '10 v WHI'TALL-TATUM COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
SURGICAL BASIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 29, 1910. Serial No. 540,893.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN WV. ltlEIN- noKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Surgical Basins, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a basin which is serviceable for use in hospitals or as a sickroom appliance for use by physicians and nurses in treatment of patients, and the like.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective View of a basin embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view of the basin. Fig. at is a section along the line w 00 Fig. 1.
The basin comprises a bottom a. The basinhas a rim 6 which is provided with suitable curves so as to fit or sit close to various parts of the face and body. At the front the rim Z) is shown with a concave curve so that this portion of the basin can be brought to sit close under the chin, or close to various parts of the body.
The front wall of the basin is shown at a, and the rear wall of the basin as indicated at o is somewhat elevated above the height of the front wall. When the basin is held close to a patient as for example in an attack of vomiting the elevated rear wall will prevent the vomit or contents of the basin from passing out or discharging over the rear wall. Soiling of the bed or surroundings will thus be prevented.
The elevated rear wall a in joining the lower front wall a extends in an ogee shape on the upper edge as shown in the end view in Fig. 3. The elevated rear portion also prevents the nurses hand from becoming soiled when holding, and diminishes danger of spilling. The curved portions of the rim enable the basin or receptacle to be held close to the face or body when performing operations, dressing a wound, or washing the various parts, such for example as the ear, nose, mouth or other parts of the body.
I claim 1. A surgical basin comprising a bottom convexed at the rear and concaved at the front; a convexed rear wall slanting backwardly, and outwardly curved from the bottom to the top; a concaved front wall slanting outwardly from the bottom; the said rear wall extending to a height largely in excess of the height of the front wall to form a relatively high protecting back to the basin; and end sections sloping downwardly at an angle from the high rear wall to the lower front wall.
2. A one-piece surgical basin comprising a solid bottom convexed at the rear and concaved at the front; an integral convexed rear wall slanting backwardly, and outwardly curved from the bottom to the top; an integral concaved front wall slanting outwardly from the bottom; the said rear wall extending to a height largely in excess of the height of the front wall to form a relatively high protecting back to the basin; and integral curved end sections sloping downwardly at an angle from the high rear wall to the lower front wall.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CII RISTIAN WILLIAM MEINECKE.
