IMPROVEMENT AIN BUTCHERS KNIVES.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and' making part of the lame To all whomitt may concern Beit known that we, PETER HoUsEMAN and 0.1- LIB O. CAMPBELL, of Rural Retreat, in the county of Henry, and State of Virginia, have invented a new and improved Knife; and we do hereby declare lthat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of' this specitication, in which- Figure 1 represent-s a side view of our improved knife.

Our invention relates to butcher and tobacco-knives, and our 'object is to protect the workmen who employ them constantly from injury to their thumbs..A

Theinventiou consists in the application to a knife, A, of a hinged or rigid spoon-shaped t-hun1bsupporter or plate, B. This plate rests against the back edge of the knife, and serves to receive the thumb, as indicated in g. 1.

Knives, when constantly used, especially when pressnre is required, will gradually wear or injure the thumb of the operator.
