Be it knownthat I, ERNEST SCHEEL, ot' the city of New York, in the county and State oi' New York, have invented a new'4 andimproved Whiting-Case vor Desk; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use tlic same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication.

Figure l represents a vertical transverse section of my improved writing-case, showing it closed.

Figure 2 is a similar view of the same, showing it opened.

,Y 'Thisinvention relates toa newwriting-case, which 'is provided with a flexible slat-covcr that is moved int-'o the case, for opening the same.

The invention consists iu connecting the Asaid cover with a drawer in such manner that, by openas iu iig. 1, or it is rolled .back into the deskbehind the shelves b of the same, as in fig. 2. In the latter case the desk is opened.

The back end ot' the liexible cover is, by means of straps, or by a continuation of the slats, connected with the back end of aidrawer, C, which is arranged in the desk.

The front end oi' the cover B is, when the desk is closed, locked to the front of the drawer C by means of suitable fastening devices. neet-ion is interrupted the drawer can be pulled out,

Aand will thereby draw the cover B into the desk, to

open the same, as is clearly shown in lig. 2. When the drawer is pushed back it will force the cover. forward again and close the desk.

The drawer may be made jointed, so that it can' be .folded apart, as in fig. 2, to constitute the writing surface of the desk.
