In carrying out my invention I form the holster as follows: a represents the rear wall which lies next to the body of the user, when in use and is preferably formed of strong stii'l leather and is provided at one end (which I term the attaching end) with la loop i of leather, or other suitable means for securing it to the belt, or person of the wearer. The opposite end of the rear Wall is narrowed-to form the rear wall of the barrel engaging portion.- The front portion of the holster which is also preferably formed of stiff leather, is of less length than thel rear wall, and is provided witha barrel receiving portion a8 secured at lts edges, to

the edges of the barrel portion of the rear vwidened from the barrel wall, and said front wall is continued in a direction toward the attaching end of the holster, in line with the barrel portion a to form the breech engaging portion a2 which covers lthe breech and /hamm'er portion of gun and is secured at its edge to the adjacent edge of the rear wall, but does not extend to the end of the rear wall, and is of course open adjacent to the attaching end of the holster as at a* to permit the` insertion of the gun. The extreme end of the barrel portions of the front andl rear walls is closed to protect the end of the barrel e2. The front wall is ortion a3 toward the attaching end, to con orm generally to the shape of the rear wall, and has a portion a to receive the trigger4 guard e3 of. the gun and trigger e4, which however, does not extend as far' toward-the attaching end of the holster as the breech engaging portion, in order to permit the stock or handlee of the gun to project on that side ofthe holster and the-rear wall a is ofsuch width that the stock or handle e of the gun projects well beyond the lateral edge of the -rear wall to vpermit the stock to be grasped by the hand,

while the gun is in the holster and facilitate its removal from and` insertion .in the holster. The trigger guarden aging portion of the front wall is provide with a U-shaped recess az extending longitudinally taching end of the holster for a urpose hereinafter described. This lug or. yblock 728 is located in of 'the holster and open at the end toward the atline with the recess d2 so as to be accessible to the user, who can depress the same with the iinger as he grasps the stock of the weapon, and by depressing it withdraw the gun. In this instance the rear wall a ofthe holster comprises a front piece f of leather orv other suitable material and a lining f2 (whichmay also be of leather) on the forward side of the same or on the inner face' gaging surface of the locking lug or block is inclined as shown at h4 and terminates in an abrupt shoulder, which is adapted to engage :the forward extremity of thenger guard v of the gun. The metal strip g is shown provided with a bent up portion g3 carrymg a projection which engagesthe end h2 of the spring It to limit the outward movement thereof. I also strengthen or stitfen the front wall of the holster adjacent to the U- shaped recess d2 by means of a metal brace j Y which is illustrated in detail in- Fig. 4. This at 'fone' end js a laterally projecting vpart j* which supports the portion a of the front brace comprises a metal strip `7"" and having -Wall on the outer side of the recess, and is appropriately formed and bent to conform to the shape of the leather wall.- The end 3'3 ofthe metal brace (which is the end toward the barrel lreceiving part of the holster) is also provided with a projection j on the side opposite the projection i4 and extends over the gun between the stock and the end of the barrel when the gunis inserted. This metal brace is secured in place and concealed by a layer ofleather stitched to the outer wall of the holster, and gives rigidity to the outer wall thereof on both sides of the recess dz. v y kl:When the gun vis inserted the trigger guard will riseover the inclined face It* of the lug la. before the end of the barrel reaches the end of the barrel portion of the holster depressing the spring actuated locking lug and passing the samewhen the lug will spring back' through vthe guard and lock the gun in the holster, against anyaccidental displacement, the lateral portions of the outer wall, on the exterior side of the U- shaped recess d2 'forming a trough which is engaged by the trigger guard, and which holds the gun against lateral movement as before stated, and prevents it from working laterally with respect to the locking lug ha. To withdraw the gun the user will grasp the portion of the stock projecting laterally from the holster and extend the foreinger into the recess d2 and upon the lug 71.3, and

depress the lug when the gun may fbe readily and quickly withdrawn.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A holster for magazine guns, comprising a body adapted to inclose the barrel, breech and trigger guard portions of the gun, and being of'less width than the distance from the end of the stock to the breech, to permit the stock to project laterally from 'the holster, the trigger guard inclosing portion of the holster being provided with a recess in its front wall disposed longitudinally of the holster, and a locking lug in line with said recess adapted to engage the finger guard, the lateral portions of the holster adjacent to said recess being adapted to engage the linger guard and hold the gun ,from lateral movement in the holster.

2. A holster for magazine guns, comprising a body adapted to inclose the barrel, breech and trigger guard portions of the gun, and being of less width than the distance from the end of the stock to the breech, to permit the stock to project laterally from the holster, the trigger guard inclosing portion of the holster being provided with a recess in its front wall disposed longitudinally of the holster, and a locking lug in line with said recess adapted to engage the linger guard, the lateral portions of the holster adjacent to said recess being adapted to engage the finger guard and hold the gun from lateral movement in the holster, and a brace for the said recessed front wall having portions extending around the edges thereof, and secured to the bolster.

3; A holster comprising portions for receiving the barrel, breech and trigger guard of a gun, the rear wall being extended beyond the front wall and provided with attaching means, the trigger guard inclosing portion ',of the holster having its front wall provided with a longitudinally disposed recess, open at the end nearer the attaching end of the holster, the portion of the holster lon the outer side of said recess forming a trough to receive the trigger guard and hold the gun from lateral movement in the holster, a spring secured to the rear wall of the holster and a locking lug carried by said spring, and located in line with said recess, for engagin thettrigger guard and loclnng the gun in tie holster.
