To all whom it may concernI Be it known that I, WILLIAu A. Ives, of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in the Construction ct' Angers; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, tn he a full and exact description thereof'.

'lhi's invention relates to en improvement in doubletwist, squnre-lipped angers, the object being to so construct and shape tbe head and cutting-edges of the lips b b and a a that the tool will enter the wood without sliverng, and with a drawing cnt.

To this end my invention consists in bringing, by means of machinery adapted to the purpose, the pc l'iphery of the headupon which the side cutters a a are to he formed forward of the center of the point instead of leaving them even or at right angles therewith, asin the usual manner, in combination with the two floor-lips b b, which are made to slope upward from the center or screw in a straight line at any desimblc angie, but should not be less than twenty de y the gouge-lippcd auger, and can be made at much less cost.

lVhat I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Iatent, is-

A double-twist auger, when provided with curved edge, sloping floor-lips b b, and side lips or cutters :t a, in the manner shown and described.
