FOLDING POULTRY-COOP.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR D. HU'r'ro, a citizen of the United States, residing at Okahumpka, in the county of Lake and State ofFlorida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Poultry-Coops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

.My invention relates to new and useful improvements in folding poultry coops and my object is to provide a device of this character which may be readily folded into compact form and which may be readily and quickly set up for operation.

A further object of the invention resides in providing an improved means for the retention of the walls of the device in upright position.

Still another object of the invention resides in providing a device of this character which is extremely simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efficient and useful in operation.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in thcnovel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as willbe hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device set up for operation. Fig. 2 is a transverse section there.

In describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which 1 indicates a bottom section, to the side edges of which are formed or otherwise secured thereon the upwardly extending flanges or strips 2 and hingedly secured to these strips by means of the hinges 3 are the side wall sections 1, said hinges having the sections thereof engaged with the upper faces of the strips 2 and the lower rails of "-1f" I Specification of Letters Patent.

said side wall sections. I-Iingedly secured to the end edgesof the bottom section 1 are the inwardly foldable end wall sections 5 and hingedly secured by means of the hinges (i to the top rails of the side wall sections arc the outwardly folding top wall sections 7 and 8 which are adapted to rest on the upper edges of the end wall sections, when set in upright position. Each of the end, side and top wall sections is formed of a frame over which is spread a screening or woven wire covering 9 and a spring held door 10 is formed in the top section 8, whereby entrance may be had to the inclosure formed by the various wall sections, when in upright position.

.I have provided means for the retention of the wall sections in upright position and to this end, the upper faces of the top rails of the side wall sections have secured thereto at the ends of the same, the metallic strips 11, which strips are provided with the openings 12. The upper faces of the top rails of said end wall sections have also secured thereto at the ends thereof, the additional strips 13 which have secured thereto the spring strips 1 which spring strips extend beyond the side edges of the side rails of said end walls and are adapted to contact with the strips 11 on the side wall sections. The spring strips are provided with a pair of depending studs 15 and 16, one of which is adapted to enter the openings 12 in the strips 11, while the other enter openings 17 in the strips 13. From this construction it will be seen that when the end walls and the side wall sections are in upright position and the spring strips locked in engagement with the respective strips of the side and end wall sections, the latter will be securely retained in upright position until such time as removed by manual operation. I have also provided a safety latch for the securing of the top wall sections together and to the end wall sections, and to this end, I providea pair of spring strips 18 which are substantially T-shaped and secured to the top rails of the end wall sections 5. The heads of these T-shaped strips project slightly above the top rails thereof and are provided on their inner faces with studs 19, while the adjacent end rails of the top wall sections are provided with sockets 20 adapted to receive said studs 1.9. It will be seen therefore, that as the studs 19 are entered in the respective openings of the top wall sections 7 and 8, said latter sections will be securely held to the end wall sections.

Assuming that the device is set in upright position, and it is desired to fold the same, the safety latch members 18 are removed from their engagement with the top wall sections 7 and 8, whereupon said sec tions are folded outwardly over the outer faces of the side wall sections 4:. The spring latch members 14c carried on the end wall sections are then disengaged from the strips 11 on the side wall sections, whereupon said end wall sections are folded inwardly to rest flatly upon the bottom wall section 1, and the side wall sections, together with the top wall sections folded thereagainst, are then folded inwardly to rest upon the end wall section and upon one another, as shown in Fig. 3.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention and while I have particularly described the elements most well adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.

Having thus described this invention, what I claim is I 1. A. folding coop of the class described comprising a bottom section, folding side and end wall sections, folding top wall sections hingedly carried on the side wallsections and adapted to rest on the upper edge of the end wall sections when the coop is in set up position, plates secured to the upper face of the side wall sections immediately adjacent the ends thereof, said plates having sockets formed therein, plates also secured to the top faces of the end wall sections adjacent the ends thereof and in alinement with the first-mentioned plates, said latter plates being also formed with sockets therein, spring strips secured at one end to the plates on said end wall sections, the opposite end of said strips projecting beyond said last mentioned plate, each of said strips being provided with a pair of depending studs adapted to enter the sockets in the plates on said side and end walls to retain said walls in upright position, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A folding coop of the class described ,comprising a bottom section, folding side and end wall sections, folding top wall 7 sections immediately adjacent the ends thereof, said plates being provided with sockets therein, additional plates countersunk in the top faces of the end wall sections adjacent the ends thereof and in alinement with the first-mentioned plates, said latter plates being also provided with sockets, spring strips secured to the last mentioned plates on said end wall sections, the upper face of said strips being in the same plane as the upper face of said end wall sections, said spring strips being provided with depending studs adapted to enter the sockets in the plates on said side'and end walls to retain the latter in upright position, said top wall sections when in effective position being adapted to cover said'spring strips whereby accidental disengagement of the studs from said sockets is prevented, as and for the purpose described.

3. In a coop of the class described, comprising a bottom section, inwardly folding side and end wall sections, outwardly folding top wall sections hingedly carried on the side wall sections, interlocking means between the end'and side wall sections to retain the same in upright position, the end edges of said top wall sections being'provided with sockets adjacent their meeting edges, and T-shaped spring strips carried on the end wall sections, the heads of said strips being provided with inwardly disposed studs adapted to enter the sockets of said top wall sections to retain the latter in closed position on the end wall sections.
