GATAM NIAL BELT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented @ct. a ma.
Application filed July 11, 191i). Serial No. 571,447.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-I, EDWARD JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catamenial Belts for \Vomen, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective belt for holding the napkin or bandage for women, which shall be light and comfortable for wear and which shall not curl up or wrinkle when worn next to the skin; and the invention consists of a single strip of elastic webbing so folded in front as to drop down below the waist line to conform to the curve of the body in front, and provided with a suspension strip at the rear which may or may not be integral with the body of the belt, whereby the strain on the belt on front and rear in holding the'napkin will not cause the belt to curl or wrinkle, but in which the smoothness of fit will be always maintained.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved belt as in use. Fig. 2 is a side view of same. Fig; 3 is a detail view of the front portion of the belt. Fig. 4 is a detail View of the rear portion, and
- Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the rear supporting strlp when made in a separate piece.
The belt is formed from a single piece of suitable elastic Webbing 1 of the proper width for-comfort, and of proper length to extend around the waist and follow the contour of the body in front. The webbing is given a single fold 2 in front on a diagonal line 3, so that the two portions of the webbing are at substantially right angles to each other in front. V
For the rear of the belt, one end of the webbing as 4 is turned down at right angles to the body portion on a diagonal fold 5 and the other end 6 of the webbing is brought over the fold to the dotted line 7 and stitched, and the belt is ready for use. Safety pins 8, 9 are used to secure the napkin to the -belt or it may be secured to the belt in any other convenient way.
Instead of forming the entire belt of a single piece of webbing, the rear strip may be a separate strip 10, secured by the flap 11 {)oIthe ends of the main body portion of the e t. front is depressed so that when in place the belt will follow the contour of the body and the belt will always remain smooth and close fitting and will not wrinkle or curl up when in use;
To apply the belt the user merely steps into the belt and stretches it up over the hips to the waist line.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A catamenial belt comprising an integral strip of elastic webbing forming a permanent encircling band, and provided with a diagonal uncut fold in the front forming a front depression to follow the lines of the body, with the front folds permanently secured together whereby buckles and metal points are dispensed with, said band being in a uniform shape except at the above fold.
2. A catamenial belt comprising an integral strip of elastic webbing, forming a per- -manent encircling band, and provided with a diagonal uncut fold in the front forming a front depression to follow the lines of the body, with the front folds permanently secured together and having a depending strip of elastic webbing at the rear from the body of the belt of a length to correspond to the front'depression, with means for attaching the napkin directly to the diagonal fold in front, said band being of a uniform shape except as at the above fold.
3. A catamenial belt comprising an lntegral strip of elastic webbing forming a permanent encircling a diagonal uncut fold in the front, forming a front depression to follow the lines of the body, with the front folds permanently secured together, and having a depending \Vith this construction of belt the band and provided with I strip of elastic Webbing at the rear from the
