Toall whom/it may concern I Be it known thatI, GUsTAvPALCsda subject of the King of I-Iungary, and ,resident of Bridgeport,in the county of Fairfield and State ofyConnecticuu l have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combinedl Tables and Chairs, is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful of which the following `in'iproveinents in a combined table andy seas to occupy a small space; to provide a form of device whereby a series of chairs maybe employed and adjusted by the operation of a single lever arranged in a convenient yet obscure position; further so that the several chairs will at all times occupy like positions around the table andk be equally spaced apart and positioned at a uniform distance from the table.
Viith these and other objects in view the invention resides and consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departure from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invenl tion.
Similar characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughoutv the several figures of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and upon which,
Figure 1 shows a side view of my novel form of combined table and series of chairs the latter'being positioned beneath the table. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1 the chairs being arranged in their outer or spread position 'around the table, and Fig. 3 shows a sectionalplan view of the device taken online Sf of Fig. 2. 'i
fl'Referring in detail to the characters of reference marked upon the drawings 5 rep- `resents the pedestal which may obviouslybe of any. suitable or ornamental design, but
ywould preferably be formed heavy enough so as to insure the table resting firm upon the floor. This pedestal includes a central vertical bearing post 6 upon which a rotatable sleeve 7 is mounted. The table top 8 is secured to the upper end of this pedestal and is thus firmly supported inV position against rotation.
A The rotatable sleeve 7 before mentioned is provided with an outwardly extended oper* ating handle 9 which is adapted to be moved V`backward and forward, within the guide 10 secured to the underside of the table, for the purpose of moving the sleeve in its operation of the chairs 11 connected therewith.
v In the drawings I have shown a series of siX chairs each ofwhich is provided with la suitable number of legs for supporting the same upon ythe floor 12. These' chairs as well as their operative connections with the pedestal and sleeve are alike in construction and not only operate in the4 same manner,
but all yoperate simultaneouslyr and with the movement of the sleeve when actuated by the arm 9 before mentioned. Each of these to carries upon its periphery a series of ears 15 to which one end of the link 16 is `pivotally connected, the other end of the said link being similarly connected to the arm pivoted to the base carrying the chair.
It will thus be seen that as the sleeve is moved backward or to the left as shown in Fig. 3 its connection of the link with the arm of the stool will serve to swing the arm upon its pivot in a manner to throw the chair out to the position indicated in dotted lines and further that when so extended a reverse movement will draw the stools in under the table as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patpost and having a table top secured thereto; of a sleeve rotatably mounted upon the post of thebase, means forl rotating the sleeve, a series of chairs, an arm attached to each chair and pivotally connectedto the base,
links connecting the sleeve and chairs and whereby the latter may be moved to and from the base by the turning of the sleeve.,
2. combined table and series of chairsvv comprising a pedestal forming a base and y post and having a tabletop secured thereto,
`of a sleeve rotatably mounted upon the post of the base and provided vWith an extended operating arm, a series of ,chair-"s1 pivotaliy' connected to the base, links'one end of Whichv is pivotally connected to the sleeve and the other end to the chairs whereby the latter may be VmovedV With respect to the base by C. NEWMAN, ANDRO GALZA. p
`Copies of this patent may Vbe obtained for ve 'cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of :Patents Washington, D. C.
