MULTIPLE coNNEoroE. p
To all whom t may concern: l
Beit known that I, ANDREW L. FLINT', of East lleymouth, in the county of Norfolk andfSta'te of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Multiple Connectors, of which the follow'-v ing is a specification.
rIhis invention relates toan improvement in devices for connecting a multiplicity of circuits.
The object of the invention' is to provide Y a device wherebyy a` multiplicity of electric conductors -may be simultaneously and quickly connected and disconnected. The device is primarily intended for use in electric musical. instruments wherein the sonorousbodies are electromagnetically actuated,
although'obviously it is not limited to such Theinvention will'be lreadily understood drawing,- iny whichfrom an inspection of the accompanying Figure 1 is a side elevationcf one form of the invention with one of the' removable blocks' in position; Fig.` 2 is a view looking upward at .the same; V Fig. 3 is a side eleva'- tion offene of theremovable blocks; Fig. v4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectionon the line of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is asection on the line 5'-'-5'of`Fig;`2",showing the detachable blockfin engaging position; FigQ isfa similar view showing the-'block detached;` Fig'.v 7 is a'ffragmentarysectional view, Aon an enlarged scale, showing how'` the conductors aregsecured in place ;"'Fig. 8 is a fragmentary side elevation of a modified form of connector; and Fig. 9 is aV trans verse verticalsection 'of aV portion of the connector. f`
As illustrated in Figs. 1 to 6 the device includes a barlO, preferably' of'wood, having pairs of elongatedprotective flanges or guiding lips 12, 13 and 1415 at intervals. Two such pairs of guides are shown, but` one or more may be employed. The' bar 10 also.
has a ribor ledge16 extending along its en-4 bodylportions or Shanks 20, which are tire length on lthe faceopposite thatfrom which theL Hanges 12 to 15 project."
Y Secured infthebar 10 are two rows of pins vork plugs '18, comprising cylindrical Vplugiis provided with a recess or cavity 26 ,Specification of Iietters Patent.- Ptented Feb, 22, 1916. i

driven into-the bar, and reduced necks 22,V which are split at 24, and .taperedat theirl endsynThe outer end of the shank of each in which ,onel end of a conductor28 can be secured.l A series of holes 30 are Vdrilled into the'ledge 16,'and through one side of thel Shanks of the plugs 20finto the recesses 26'." TheseV holes Varev of lsuch a diameter as to enable vthe insulation 29 Y of the conductors- 28 Vto enter, and the end'of. said conductor is preferably bent as shown and secured to the plug by solder'32. Y. Y
The detachable portion fof the connector comprises a relatively short bar 34, also of wood, having itsv body "portion of such a width asrto fit between the flanges 12, 13 on the `bar 10. The bar 34 has' a pair of laterally projecting flanges 36,". 38 adapted Vto engage the flanges 12,713', and a ledge 40 extends alongsaid body-portion beyond the flanges 36,v 38. Two rows ofsocketmem# and are located the samefas the plug-memiductors 28 to'entelzandthe'ends of saidm' conductors are bent `as` 'shown' and secured to theftubes by vsolder'46.'l`he'spike ends of ,the plugs onthe bar'lO are preferably spread apart, slightly or bent outward in orderto insure aV good lfrictional and electrical lcontact between saidV plugs and the socket-members'on the bar 34.V VJALlthough only one bar 34' is shown,` it will b e under-L ployed. as thereV are groups ofv conducting plugs or pairs'of vflanges 12, 13,k said flanges acting to protect the plugs from injury and also guide'the bars 34'as theyV are' pressed'v975,A Vinconductingposition.
In order, .toV detach vthe "socket-member from the"plugmember,a pair of levers 50,1l
51' are provided for each socket-member. As shown 'the levers 50, 51, are provided 1C0 with'intermediate pivotal portions 52, which .y
are preferably square and yieldinglyl held" f stood that `asmany such bars may beem-` Y 1,172,694 Y f3'V combination with one or more blocks pro- "In testimony whereof I haveaixed my vdedfwth socket contact-members adapted signature inthepresence'of two Witnesses.
