TOOTHPICK- VENDING MACHINE.

Be it known that I, FRANK MEszARos, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved A Toothpick-Vending Machine, of which the4 following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to vvending machines and particularly to toothpick vending machines, and has for an object to provide an improved construction which will vend one toothpick at a time.
Another object in view is to provide an improved constructionl for vending toothpicks which will vend a certain quantity of toothpicks on each operation.
A still further obj ect of the invention is to provide a toothpick vending machine which is formed with an arrangement whereby the toothpicks are agitated von each operation and directed in a single line to the discharge point so that only a predetermined number may be vended on each successive operation.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by'numerals, 1 indicates a base of any7 desired kind and 2"a standard which may be formed from a tubular member and a clamping screw, as shown in Fig. 2, if desired, so as to rigidly hold the bracket 3 in position. Rigidly secured to the bracket 3 is a case 4 which may be held in place by any suitable means, as for instance screw 5. The bracket 3 is provided with an aperture 6 and with a vertical extension 7 journal pin 8 extending through lever 9.

A spring 17 causes the leverand associated partsto move in the opposite direction, said spring having one end bearing against the bearing of case 4 and the opposite end against a feeding bar 18,-which bar is provided with a plurality of fingers 19, each of which is formed with a beveled face 20. The fingers 19 are spaced a predetermined distance from the side of the case 4, as for'instance, ya sufficient distance to allow the passage of one toothpick, though this distance could be increased, if desired, so as to yallow two or more to pass. The case 4 is provided with a front plate 21 of an appreciable thickness, which plate acts as a support for the lowermost toothpick in case 4, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. A slot 22 is provided in the plate 2l so as to allow the pin 23 to move up and down, said pin being mounted in the bar 18 and carrying a sliding door 24. When lever 9 is moved downwardly, as shown in Fig. 6, the bar 18,A together with door 24, is moved downwardly, whereby a doorway is providedr through which the toothpicks' may pass to the supports 25. As the bar 18 moves downwardly the rod 15 is moved longitudinally and consequently moves the transverse discharge bar 26 toward the door 24, said movement being suflicient to cause the fingers v27 of bar 26 to force the lowerlmost toothpick in the case outwardly through the opening or doorway 28 and at the same time raise the remaining toothpicks so that none of the same can pass out of the case. The fingers 27 are each formed with a beveled portion 29 for raisingthe toothpicks remaining in the CaSe, and with a flat portion 30 for forcing the lowermost toothpick out of the casing on to the supports 25. The fingers 19 of bar 18 and the side of the casing present a guideway 31 for a single row the beveled surface is in alinement with the bevel of the filling block 32. Upon releasing the lever 9 from the position shown in Fig. 6 the same will automatically move the parts to the position shown in Fig. 2 and will thus agitate the toothpicks so that there will always be supplied a row of toothpicks in the guideway 3l ready to be forced out one at a time on to the supports 25. 1
It is evident that any desired number of toothpicks may be secured from'the device by successively working the same, but in any case the toothpicks are placed in the device so that each person operating the same may secure a clean toothpick. This is very desirable in public eating houses, as each pa-l tron is assured of a clean toothpick and the proprietor is reasonably assured that none of the toothpicks will be wasted.
When it is desired to refill the case 4 the lid 33 is removed and a new supply is provided, said lid being telescopically fitted on the case so that it may be removed at any time. Lid 33 preferably carries cup- shaped members 34 and 35 for receiving various articles as desired, as for instance, condie ment holders. rfhese members, Iof course, may be changed without departing from the spirit of the invention, and in fact,`variousv parts of the device may be changed some-.

What l claim is 1. In a toothpick vending machine of the character described, a casing provided with a doorway, a door for normally closing said doorway, a reciprocating member for movrand with a doorway arranged adjacent the bottom of said guideway, a door for normally closing said doorway, a pivotally mounted lever for actuating ysaid door, a sliding ej ecting member, and means for connecting said sliding ejecting member with said lever, whereby Vsaid ejecting member is moved simultaneously with the movement of said door for forcing a toothpiclr from said guideway through said doorway immediately after the door is moved to an open. position. -v
3. ln a vending machine for toothpiclrs, a casing for receiving a quantity of loose tooth-picks, a reciprocating member arranged on said casing and projecting into the space I. occupied by the said toothpicks, said reciproeating member being arranged adjacent one side of the casing-so as to provide a guideway for the toothpicks, a transversely movable ejector, a door, means for simultaneously opening said door for lowering said reciprocating member and moving said ejector so as to force the lowermost toothpick in said guideway from the casing, and means for restoring all of said members to their original position, whereby said reciprocating member will agitate the toothpicks in the casing so as to cause some of the same 'each movement of said lever.

A toothpick vending machine, "comprising a casing, a bottom member arranged therein inclined so as to direct toothpicks in the casing to one side of the casing, a stirring member arranged adjacent the side of the casing to which the tobthpicks are directed by said bottom member, said stirring member and said casing forming a guideway for receiving a single line of toothpicks, said casing being formed with an opening adjacentl the bottom of said guideway, a door normally closing Said opening, an ejector arranged opposite said opening, and a lever connected with said door and said ejector for simultaneously 'opening said door and moving said ejector ing a casing for receiving toothpicks, a
stirring member. arranged in said casing adapted to stir and to aline the toothpiclrs, an ejecting member arranged opposite the lowermost alined toothpicks, a lever for actuating said ejector, and means for operating said stirring member simultaneously j with the operation of said ejector.
7. A toothpiclr vending machine, comprising a casing, a stirring member for the toothpicks in the casing, said stirring member being formed with a plurality` of spaced fingers arranged adjacent one side or the casing so as to present a restricted portion delining a passageway for the toothpiclrs, whereby the toothpicks are alined, an ejecting member1 formed with a plurality ci? spaced fingers arranged to extend between the fingers of said stirring member, means simultaneously therewith, and a spring for returningsaid stirring member and said v ejecting member.
