HAT SWEAT BAND.
APPLICATmN man ma. u, 191e.'
Patente "Dem 19, 19H5.
iNVENTOR WITNESS z ATTORNEY 7 HAT SWEAT-BAND.
Specication of lctters Patent.`
Application filed January 11, 1916.V Y Serial No. 71,530.
To MZ/whom# mag/concern.' Be it known that I, SAMUEL C. lVHrrnow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Balmville, near Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iat Sweat-Bands, of which the following is a speciiication. n This invention relates to wearing apparel and has particular reference to an improved form 0f sweat band for hats. Y
The principal objects of the invention are to provide a band whi-ch will permit of a free circulation of air within the hat, thus keeping the head cool and dry, and preventing undue perspiration; which will be light, pliable, and formed in such a manner that the same will not irritate the head of the wearer; which may be made of a plurality of designs and attached to various Y kinds of hats, and which is inexpensive to manufacture and' durablein use.
With theforegoing 'and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and V arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and claimed. f
In the drawings, Figure ll is a vertical sectional view of a hat, showing the improved sweat band applied thereto. Fig. 2. is a fragmentary elevational viewl of the bandV with the parts thereof arranged in disassembled relation. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the parts ofthe band, showing the same arranged in disassembled relation; and Fig. t is a transverse'sectional view of a slightly modified form of sweat band.
. Referring to the drawings by numeralsr and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 3,-'inelusive, wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention,v l designates a hat of any usual construction, which is adapted to have secured therein, in the usual manner, a sweat band 2.
The sweat band 2 of the present invention, is formed from a circular band 3 of leather or like material, which is adapted to be se-V cured to the hat in the usual manner. This band of leather is provided with a plurality of staggered openings 4 to receive plugsv 5 projecting beyond the surface of the sweat band and composed of pliable material such as cork, rubber or the like. 'These `plugs 5 are of slightly greater thiclmess than the 'Patented Deels, 1ere; j
thickness ofthe band 3 sovv that 'when one.-
face of the plugs is in alinement with 'the *rearf'face ofthe' band, the 'opposite face of the Aplugs will project slightly beyond the outer face of the band.
A second band'G of la suitable fabric or any other desirable material, is made of a size to snugly fit the outer face Aof the band 3, and this second band is adapted to have an adhesive 7 appliedthereto 'for engage- Y ment Vwith the plugs 5 toy hold the same within the openings of the band 3. In the drawings, I have illustrated the. adhesive 7 as being arranged upon the bandr 6' in staggered relation so'as to vengage only with the plugs `5. '-I-Iowever, I wish it to kbeunderstood that the` entireinner face of the band 6 maybe covered with an adhesive material which lWill engager the outer face of the band 3 as well as the' the band?) and plugs 5, thereto.
By constructing a hat band as shown and described, itrwill benoted that a free passage for air is provided between the plugs 5, as the plugs are arranged in spaced staggered relation and holdthe band 3 in spaced relation with the head of the wearer of the plugs 5, tosecure both hat with which the band is associated. It
.is thought that the advantages of the improved band will be apparent and, there'- fore, a detailed enumeration of the same will not be gone into.
y In Fig. l of the drawings, I have Shown a slightly modified Vform of band which is of a construction similar to the preferred embodiment of my invention. This form of From the foregoing description takenI in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought thatthe construction and operation of my improved hat band will be Y readily understoodand while I have herein shown and described one preferred embodiment of my inventiomI do not wish tobe limited thereto except for such limitations Vasthe claims may impart. j
Y I claim l. A device of, the character described comprisingv a band having a plurality of fopenings therein, plugs arranged within lsaid openings, a second band arranged upon said first band, and an adhesive material carried by said Second band for engagement; 011s vrowsV arranged in oset I'elaton, plugs with said yplugs to seoulje `the same Within positioned n 4saidD196,nrulge, and means for the openings.
