To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN J. ZARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wiconisco, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in game apparatus of the type embodying a board and counter or movable pieces, and the invention has for its object to provide a game apparatus by which one or more players may find entertainment by the representation of a trip or race around the world.

Another object is the provision of a game apparatus embodying means for guiding the movement of the counters or movable pieces and for insuring against loss of the latter when the apparatus is not in use.

l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring to. the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a boxlike receptacle including the body 6 and cover 7 which is hingedly secured at 8 to one end of the body 6 and is foldable thereover to protect the game board 9 supported in the body 6. I

The game board 9 is formed with a plurality of longitudinal rows of rectangular openings 10 adapted to receive the correspondingly shaped stems 11 of the movable piece or counters 12. Elastic members 13 are secured at their opposite ends to the end walls of the body 6 and extend across each row of the openings 10 and through openings 14 formed in the stems 11, whereby the latter may be guided during movement from one opening 10 to another, during the progress of the game.

A plate or board 15 is hingedly secured at 16 to the inner surface of the cover 7 and is adapted, when said cover is swung to open position, as shown in Fig. 1, to be sup ported in an inclined position by a hinged brace 17 which latter may be folded back to permit the board 15 to be swung back into the cover 7. A rotatable disk 18 is secured to the board 15 by a pin 19 and is adapted to co-act with a pointer 20 in a manner which will hereinafter appear.

A space at the top of the board 9 is reserved for markings representing the names of several cities, the name of one city being arranged opposite or above each opening in the several rows. In the accompanying drawings there is indicated the names of twelve cities, beginning with New York, appearing at the left of the board 9, and including San Francisco, Manila, Pekin and sev eral other cities which might be visited during a trip around the world. Characters, representative of the nations in which the several cities appearing on the board are located, are preferably printed or otherwise marked in the spaces under the names of the cities as suggested in Fig. 1.

The front face of the disk 18 is divided by radial lines 21 into a plurality of spaces 22 in which are printed the names of cities corresponding to the names appearing on the game board 9. As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the words Advance are marked in two of the spaces 22, while in other of the spaces are marked the words Return.

The game may be played by one or as many persons as there are counters 12, and each player is assigned one of the counters 12. The player twirls the disk 18 and should the disk stop in such position that the pointer 20 overlies the name of one of the cities printed on the disk that player moves his counter 12 and inserts the stem 11 thereof in the opening opposite the corresponding city marked on the game board 11. Should the disk 18 stop at a point where the pointer 20 overlies the word Advance, the player advances the counter 12 one opening 10. However, should the word Return lie opposite the pointer 20 when the disk 18 stops, the player is compelled to return his counter to the starting point or the opening at the left end of the row. The player who first passes London, the city marked at the right end of the board 9, and returns his counter to the opening represented by the words New York wins the game.

lVhat I claim is:'

1. A game apparatus including a body, a game board supported in said body, a cover hinged to said bony and adapted to close the latter, a relatively narrow boa-rd hinged in said cover, a pointer carried by said board, means for supporting said board in inclined position, and a disk rotatably secured to said board,

2. A game apparatus including a game board ha 'ing rows of openings therein, a flexible member extending across the open ings of each row, and counters adapted for insertion in said openings and slidable longitudinally of said flexible members.v

3. A game apparatus including a game board having rows of openings therein, an elastic member extending across the openings of each row, a counter, and a stem car ried by said counter slidabl'y secured to said elastic member and adapted for insertion in any one of the several openings in each row.

4. A game apparatus including a body, a cover hinged thereto, a relatively narrow board hinged to the cover, means for supporting said board in inclined position, a pointer carried by said board, a disk rotatably secured to said board and associated with said pointer and having markings thereon, a game board supported in said body and having markings thereon corresponding to certain of the markings on said disk and having a plurality of rows of open-' ings therein, an elastic member extending across the openings in each row, counters corresponding in number to thenumber of rows, and a stem carried by each counter adapted for insertion in any one of the openings in said row and slidably mounted upon said elastic member. 7
