Description

A. MARCELLL TROUSERS PROTECTOR. APPLICATION FILED res. 25. IeIs.
l ,21 1,472; Patented l Jan. 9, 1917.
@NITE ANTHONY MARCELLI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 9, it?.
Application filed February 25, 1916. Serial N o. 80,375.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ANTHONY MARCELLI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Protectors, of which t-he following is a full, clear, and eX- act specification.
This invention relates to trousers protectors, and has for its object to provide means for preventing the bottoms of trousers from becoming splashed and soiled by water and mud in wet weather. As the rear portions of the bottoms of the legs of the trousers are the parts most apt to become splashed, special provision is made in the formation of the invention to protect such parts.
Another object is to produce protectors of this kind which may be easily attached to the bottoms of the trousers and quickly detached when their use is no longer required.
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this specification, and then more specifically defined in the cla-im at the end of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a side view of the bottom of one leg of a pair of trousers, showing a protector made substantially in accordance with this invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a section on the line II-II of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a detailed inner face view of the protector as it appears when spread out flat.
Referring more particularly to the draw'- ings, 1 designates the bottom portion of one leg of a pair of trousers having the usual culi'I 2.y If the trousers are not finished with cuffs at the bottom, they may be temporarily formed by turning up the bottom of each leg for the purpose of attaching the protectors.
The protector is formed with an upwardly extending rear portion 3 and forwardly extending portions 4 adapted to meet at the front crease of the trousers. Said protector may be made of mercerized or rubber coated material thick enough or stift enough to make the upwardly extending portion 3 stand up in the position shown when in use. Along the bottom of the protector there is an inwardly and upwardly turned fold 5 of the material adapted to be arranged inside the bottom edge of the cuff 2.
The protector is supported in proper p0- sition by a number of hooks 6 secured to the inner face of the protector and adapted to be engaged with the upper edge of the cuff as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It will be noted Y that the inwardly turned fold 5 prevents the protector from working up out of proper position.
rIhe front ends of the portions 4 are secured together by a hook 7 attached to one of said portions and an eye 8 attached to the other of said portions 4. It will be understood of course that other suitable fastening means may be employed instead of the hooks and eye.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with trousers having cuffs on their bottoms, of a protector to envelop said cuHed bottoms, and hooks on the inner face of the protector for engaging the upper edge of the cuff to support said protector in proper position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication.
ANTHONY MARCELLI.
