raaaaa.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ALBERT BAUMANN, a citizen-of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Garter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to garters andhas for an object the. provision of an improved garter which may readily act as an elastic band around the leg, or as a suspending member.
A still further object in view is to provide a garter which may be left on the leg when not in use, and held in position without discomfort.
A .further object of the invention is to 3 provide a garter with a connecting button to and a clip arranged with a pair of slots or notches for receiving the button when the garter is in difl'erent positions, so as to connect the garter together for producing a band when in one position, and to connect thegarter to a hose when in another position.
In the accompanying drawing: I Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garter I embodying the invention shown applied; {W Fig. 2is a perspective view of the garter shown applied and arranged as a band; v Fig. 3 is a plan view of the garter spread out; and
Fig. 4: is a sectional view through Fig. 3,
$5 on the line 4.4.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a body, which is preferably an elastic member and which is provided with a fold 2, the end thereof 'tltl being connected with a suitable buckle 3, which buckle is provided with teeth 3' for preventing slipping after the fold 2 has been adjusted as occasion may demand. One end of the body 1 is preferably turned over e5 and stitched at 4 for producing what may be termed a compartment or inclosure 5, in
which the large end of a button 6 is arranged, the stem 7 projecting through a suitable aperture 8, so that the head 9 .may be in position for engaging the hose 10 when in use, as shown in Fig. 1, or for engaging the .clip 11 arranged at the opposite end of the garter to the button 6. The clip 11 is provided with an opening 12 merging 5 5 into an-elongatednotch'13, the construction b being very similar to clips of this-kind now Specification of Letters Patent.

on the market. However, in addition to this opening, an opening 14 is provided, whereby a-bar 15 is produced over which the looped end 2 passes. The opening 14: also merges into a notch ltiwhich is very similar to the notch 13,these notches being provided for receiving the stem 7 of the button 6, the head 9 of said button overlapping the parts of the clip adjacent these notches, as shown in Figs. 1 and When the device is used to support mens hose, as shown in Fig. 1, the button 9 is pressed against the hose to raise apart thereof, which part, together with the neck 9, is squeezed into the notch 13, the head 9 and part of the hose overlapping the adjacent parts of the clip. When it is desired to remove the hose without removing the garter, the parts are disconnected and the button is placed into notch 16, as shown in Fig. 2. If desired, the buckle 3 may be adjusted so as to produce a proper fit. In this way garters may be worn continually while in use or while not in use. Also, in case it is desired to use a garter as a band for supporting hose, the parts may be arranged as shown in Fig. 2, and a band placed at any point along the leg. v
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and method of operation will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation, .together'with the article which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, ll desire to have it understood that the articie shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In an article of the character described,
a body, a button arranged at one end, and a clip arranged at the opposite end, said
clip being provided with a pair of openings therethrough, each opening merging. into a button-receiving notch.
- In an article of the character described, a body, a clip connected with said body, said clip having a pair of openingstherein merging into separate notches, and means arranged on the said body co-acting with said notches for holding the body in position as a band and in position as a suspending member, respectively.
Q 3. In an article of the character described,
a body, a clip connected with said body and provided with a pair-of openings merging into a pair of notches, and a button con nected with said 1 body and provided with a stem adapted to extend through either of said notches, according to the position of the body, for holding the-body in its different positions when in use.
a body provided with a button adjacent one 4. In anarticle of the character described,
ALBERT BAUMANN.
