To all whom t may concern:

Be it known thatI, vCHARLEY Tnnvo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mack, in the Vcounty ofltasco and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Staples; and' declare thefollowing to be a I do hereby description of the infull, clear, and exact vention, such as will enable others skilled in legstwisted to provide a head which is in the formation of an eye.

A further object of this invention is to provide V'the head located in a plane at right angles to the plane of the legs and projecting beyond the plane of the legs to provide shoulders by 'means of which the staple may be removed by a claw, by allowing the claw of the hammer to engage the shoulders,

' l/Vith these and other objects in view as will become morev apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. 1

Referring in detail to the dra-wing, the numeral i indicates as an entirety a staple constructed from a single length of wire being first bent into U-shape formation to prowhieh shall be simple, durablel i a head located perspective view of a wire,

vide a pair of legs 2 and then having the con-i necting portions of the legs twisted as illustrated at 3 toform a head 4 having an' eyelet 5. The head is located in a plane at right angles to the plane of the legs and projects beyond the plane of the legs shoulders 6 by means of which the staple may be removed by a claw hammer.

In operation, by 'gripping the head between the index finger and thumb, the legs will be vproperly positioned to straddle a strand of wire upon a "fence post as illustrated in Fig. l, whereby the staple may be readily driven into the post. To withdraw the staple from the post, the claws of a hammer are so positioned that they will engage the shoulders whereby the staple may be withdrawn' without the use of tools especially adapted for pulling staples and without the danger of cutting the wire or post and bending the staple. i

`lhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in -construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described f my invention, what I claim is 1. A staple comprising a pair of legs, and in a plane at i'ight angles to the plane of the legs, said head projecting beyond the plane of the legs to provide shoulders by means of which the staple may be removed by a claw4 hammer, and said staple being formed from a single length of wire' bent first into U-shape to provide said legs, and then 'having the connecting porto provide tions of said ylegs twisted to provide said v strand bent to providea central eye therein,

Shanks, and a twisted stem spaced vparallel to said eye,

portion connecting the Shanks said` eye' being disposed'at right angles tol the plane of the Shanks.
