MARTIN JELALIAN, OF CRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND.
Y PROTECTION DEVICE FOR A PERSON AGAINST BULLETS 0R, EXPLO SIVES. I
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 13, 1917.
Application filed August 30, 1916. Serial No. 117,sss.-
T0 aZZ'to/wm 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN JELALIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Cranston, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protection Devices for a Person Against Bullets or Explosives, of which theranged construction will be sutlicient to serve as a defensive means for the person, when the latter is struck by a bullet or explosive.
The certain parts of the device are thus arranged that the same will have a limited amount of weight that will be easily carried by the person and at the same time will be a comparatively inexpensive structure to manufacture.
The invention contemplates special features of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts of the improved device, whereby important utilities are attained and the construction conveniently adapted for use as will be fully set forth.
In' the accompanying sheet of drawings,
wherein like reference characters indicate like parts, Figure 1, is a side view ofmy improved device and showing the same as applied to the body of a person. 2, 1s a front view of Fig. 1 and show-ing the parts of the device in their normal position. Fig. 3', is a side perspective view of one of the members of the main section. Fig, 4, IS a perspective view of one of the portions of the device which is substantially a semicylindrical metallic portion adapted to be secured to the upper leg parts of the person. Fig. 5 iso front view of a modified construction of the main section of the device.
Referring to Figs 1 and 2, the device com prises two members1"-, 1 which form a main section; said members are composed of a metallic bullet-proof structure extending from the top of the shoulders of the person 1, to the lower abdominal part of the same and surrounding the body of the latter. Thealike constructed members 1 l are inner face. It is to provided with hook connections 3 and 3 securing straps 2, 2 having one of their ends secured to the integral hooks 3 and: the other ends, attached to the pivotalhooks 3 3 The lower part of said metallic structure is also provided with integral hook connections 8, 8 to receive strap connections 8, 8- which are attached as at points 9, 9 Each of said members carrise a pad of suitable yielding material 17 upon the inner surface of the same asshown by Fig. 3.
Secured to the head part of the person 1' composed of a bullet;
is a masked device 6 proof metallic structure. which is secured thereto by means of straps 5- said straps are attached as at points 6 and 16 as shown in Fig. 1.
The masked device 6 is also provided with a pad of yielding material upon the inner surface of the same in the same manner as the alike constructed members or me tallic structure -1 1 The members 1 1 ofthe main section are provided with openings 16, for the arms of the person to pass through the same.
16 adapted Secured to the upper leg parts of the person 1 are semi-cylindrical bullet-probf Inatallic structures 11, 11- which are adapted to" be secured thereto by means of straps -11 11 and also by straps 8, 8'-,,said structures, 11, 11'- are also provided with pads of suitable yielding material 19 uponthe inner faces of the same and strap hooks pivotally connected upon their front faces' as at 9 9 In Fig. 5'is shown a IHOdi fiEd fOIm of the I members 1 1 -which consists of one por tion 16 and is adapted to be secured upon the front part of the person and extending from the top of the shoulders'to the lower abdominal part of the person. In this modified construction the latter is provided with securing straps 19 119 that are connected to the hooks 17, 17- along each side of the same, and also strapping means at the upper and lower part thereof, as, at points 19 and 16 carries a pad of yielding material upon its By this construction and arrangement. of
parts described a device is providedthat will this modified construction alsov be understood that either positively prevent dangerous efiects to a person when the latter is struck by bullets or'explosives.
Thus describing my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, a bullet-proof structure, the same consisting of two adjustably connectible alike-constructed metallic sections adapted to be supported by a person and surrounding the body of the latter from the top of the neck to the lower abdominal part thereof, a pair of bullet-proof guards, the same being of a semicylindri al shape, detachably secured to the upper leg parts of said person and located at the front part thereof, a pad of yielding material secured upon the inner face of each of said supports, integral and also pivotal strap-hooks carried by said guards and arranged upon each side of the same and having strap connections for attachment to the,
upper leg parts of the person, a pivotal strapliook arranged crntrally upon each of said leg-supports and strap connections extending from said hooks and connected to integral hooks carried by said sections and located at the lower parts thereof.
2. In a device of the character described a bullet-proof structure, said structure consisting of a pair of adjustably connectible metallic sections surrounding the body of a person and extending from the top of the shoulders to the lower abdominal part thereof, a mask device, made of a bullet-proof material, detaehahly secured to the head part of said person and provided with a pad of yielding: material upon its inne" face and also having integral strap hooks arrangec upon each side of the same, strap connections extending from said hooks to the upper end portions of said sections and attached thereto, and said strap connections adapted to keep said masked device in its position upon the head part of the person.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
