MEASURING-JACKET FOR READY-MADE CLOTHING.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ERNST LEVI, subject of the German Emperor, residing at Stuttgart, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Measuring-Jackets for Ready-Made Clotlr ing, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improved device for taking measure for clothing and is adapted particularly for fitting mens coats, jackets and the like.

The invention consists substantially in providing a complete jacket of fairly light material, and securing thereon measuring strips or tabs extending in the direction in which the principal measurements of the upper body are usually taken.

The preferred form of the invention is illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a rear elevational view of the device applied to the body of a human being; and

Fig. 2 is a front elevational view thereof.

In the drawing the numeral a denotes what may be termed a measuring jacket. This is made of any suitable fairly light material and is a substantially complete garment except that the sleeves may be omitted therefrom.

Attached to the jacket a are the measuring tapes Z) which extend along the lines which are ordinarily measured to determine the proper fit of a garment. In the example shown in the drawing, one of the measuring strips extends lengthwise from the collar of the garment down the middle of the back; a second strip extends about the bust; a third Specification of Letters Patent.

strip extends about the hip line; and a fourth strip extends lengthwise of the arm to give the measurement of the sleeve length.

The bands or tapes Z) are preferably provided with indications c to denote thepoints which are considered important in measuring, such as the middle of the back and normal sleeve length.

To measure abnormal sizes the ends of the bands Z) are preferably extended considerably beyond the respective measuring lines, thus as indicated in Fig. 2 the bust band 6 has its two ends extended considerably beyond the normal bust size shown in that figure and the same is true of the hip and sleeve bands.

I am aware that it has heretofore been proposed to provide measuring devices which comprise bands or tapes designed to encircle the principal lines of the body, and I do not claim such a construction as constitutin my invention, but what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A measuring device comprising a jacket adapted to fit a normal body, interconnected tapes or bands secured to said jacket about the principal lines of measurement of the upper body, said tapes or bands having their ends extended beyond points indicating normal size and indicating marks at given points on said tapes intermediate their ends.
