To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRIETTA Rooonns, a citizenof the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Head- Protectors, of which the following is a specification? My invention relates to caps and has for its primary objectthe provision of a sanitary cap which shall be extremely cheap to manufacture and shall also be adjustable to heads of various sizes.

Other objects and'advantages of my invention will appear from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of the unfolded p? Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lobes showing the band folded at a right angle with re spect to the plane of the lobes;

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the folded cap. Reference numeral 10 indicates a band preferably somewhat broaderjthan the ordinary sweat-band in a mans hat. This band is of arcuate shape when flattened out in. order that it may substantially conform to the shape of a persons head when its ends are brought together. At one end a plurality of transverse parallel slits 11 are provided in the band 10 while at the opposite end an undercut tongue 12 is formed, the shank 13 'of which substantially fits the slits 11, the tongue12'being flexible enough to pass through the slits but of greater width than the slits when flattened out so that it will practicably secure the ends of the band together, as seen in Fig. 3. By employing as man slits '11 as nece$ary the band ma be ma e adjustable to fit large or smal heads. Formed integrally with the band 10 are two lobes 14 and 15 which are ovalescent in shape and connect with the band at points substantially a quarter of the length of the band from each end of the band, the band itself lying substantially tangent to one of the long sides of each lobe. The cap may be constructed of linen or other suitable cloth, of paper, or of any other convenient cheap flexible material which will prevent grease and other insanitary. matter from passing through it. 'The object of my -invention is to provide for dealers in hats a sanitary cover for the heads'of customers who try on various hats, many of which hats remain in the store to be sold to other persons after having been tried on one customer. From the fact that the sanitary cap is very cheap in construction it follows that the storekeeper can afford to throw away each one the first bending, has been itself bent into an annulus with the tongue 12' slipped through one of the slits 11 and flattened out to lock the ends of the band together. The lobes 14.- and 15 overlap each other in the folded condition of the cap and may be of the proportion illustrated in Fig. 3, with reference to the length of the band, or they may be formed in somewhatlarger relative proportion in order to completely cover the head of the wearer.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is obvious that one skilledin the art may make modifications thereof without departing from the spirit of the invention. I Wish, therefore, not to be restricted to the precise embodiment shown, except in so far as the same is. limited in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a sanitary cap the combination with a band, of means for securing the ends of said band together, and cover lobes, both formed on the same side of said band and of a size sufiicient to substantially close one side of the annulus formed by said band.

2. In a sanitafy cap the combination of a band provided with slits at one of its ends, an undercut tongue adapted to engage said slits to hold the band in annular formation, and a pair of lobes secured each to the same side of said band and of-a size sufficient to substantially close one side of said annulus.

3. In a sanitary cap the combination with from the i an arcuate band formed with interlocking ends, of a pair of lobes secured to the concave edge of said band and of a size sufficient to. cover substantially one side of the annulus formed by said band.

4. In a sanitary cap the combination with an arcuate band formed with interlocking ends, of a pair of lobes protruding from the concave edge of said band and connected to the band at points removed substantially one-quarter the length of the band from the respective ends of said band, said lobes being of a size to substantially cover one side of the annulus formed from said band.

5. A sanitary ca formed of a single piece of fibrous m-ateria and comprising in combination a band having interlockmg ends, and a pair of cover lobes each formed on the same side of said band, said lobes being of a'size to substantially cover one side of the annulus formed from said band.
