Be it known that I, EUGENE W. PEPPER, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Aberdeen, in the county of Brown and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Wading-Boots, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to an improved wading boot, and has for its primary object to provide a boot which is especially designed for use by autoists, which may be easily and quickly applied to entirely inclose the shoes and the trouser legs when it is necessary for the autoist to wade through a stream in order to extricate a stalled vehicle.

It is another important object of the invention to provide a protecting boot of the above character which may be readily folded into small compass and packed beneath the seat cushion or other part of the vehicle.

It is a further general object of the inven tion to provide a device of the above character which is simple and inexpensive in its construction and which may be readily applied to or removed from the leg of the wearer and is exceedingly convenient and serviceable in practical use.

With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating one of my improved boots applied;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation of the foot portion of the boot.

Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the body portion of the boot, which is of leather or other material which is water-proofed, and is of sufficient length to extend over and above the knee of the wearer. This body 5 has integrally formed On one end the foot inclosing portion 6 which is provided with a sole 7, preferably of raw hide, the edges of the foot portion 6 being stitched or otherwise securely fastened to said raw hide sole.

straps 9 are attached at one of their ends to the front side of the boot, and complementary buckles 10 are arranged in opposed relation to said straps, said buckles and straps extending on convergent lines downwhen open as shown in Fig.2, is drawn upwardly over the leg and above the knee of the wearer, the foot, of course, being inserted into the foot portion 6 of the boot. The body 5 of the boot is then folded upon itself at the front side thereof, to which the straps 9 are attached as shown at 11, so that the boot is contracted in diameter to tightly inclose the leg. The straps 9 are then connect ed to the buckles 10. By providing the fold 11 extending the entire length of the front side of the boot, it will be apparent that the entrance of water to the interior of the boot is efiiectually precluded, the folding of the boot in this manner eliminating the necessity of providing an opening in the body portion of the boot in order that the same may be readily applied or removed. Thus, the boot body, however, when open, is of sufficient diameter to readily receive the foot and leg of the wearer so that the boot may be easily drawn on or off without difliculty, and without requiring that the shoes or outer garments be removed. As the boot is entirely constructed of flexible material, it will readily fold into small compass so that it can be conveniently packed in a bag or disposed beneath the seat cushion of the automobile. The raw hide sole 7 is of great durability and, as the use of stiffening means in the heel counters is eliminated, the foot portion 6 of the boot will readily fit over shoes of various sizes.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the constructiommanner of use, and several advantages of the device will be fully and clearly understood. The device, while exceedingly simple, is highly serviceable and convenient in practical use and may be manufactured at relatively small cost. The body may be constructed of tanned leather, chrome leather, cow hide, or other tough, water-proof, flexible material. may, of course, be made in various sizes and other fastening means than the straps and buckles above referred to may be employed. Having thus fully described my invention, What I desire to claim and secure by Letters-Patent is: v

The hereindescribed Wadingboot having. a foot portion and a leg portion constructed from a single-pieceof fieXiblemateriaL-said leg; inclosing portiongradually increasing. in diameter from the footportion of the boot to its upper end, the foot inclosing portion of the boot being of sufficient fullness to permit afold to be-f'ornied in the front of the leg portion of the boot and in the top of thefoot portion thereof, fastening means on the leg and foot portions of the boot to retain the sanieiir its folded condition, and a flexible one-piece sole tothe outer edges of which the foot portion of the boot is secured.
