Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1918.
Application filed October 10, 1918. Serial No. 257,579.
To all whom may conocia/t."r4
Be it known that I, AUGUST F. WI'RsCH- ING, a citizen of the United lStates, residing at Los Angeles, inthe county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to al shoe or legging and more particularly to a ladys shoe.
The object of my invention is to provide a shoe or legging equipped with a conven-V ient and easily accessible purse.
With this and other objects in view my invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a view in perspective ofa shoe embodying the principles of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertlcal section through the shoe top taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 showing the method of fixing thel purse in the shoe top. y
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the shoe top in the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 and further showing the method of fixing the purse in the shoe top.
As indicated in Fig. 1, the shoe as awhole may be of any high topped pattern. rIhe purse is in the form of-a pouch 10 consisting of thin leather or other material and is made of two thicknesses 11k and 12 of the material sewed together and to the shoe top lining 13 around their lower and side edges and left open at the top. The upper edge 14 of the outer thickness 11 is sewed to the shoe top covering 15 so as to coincide with its upper edge. The inner thickness 12 is sewed to the upper edge ofthe lining 13. It has an extension 16 overlapping the pouch opening and the shoe top edge and forming a flap in which the snap part 17 of a snap button is fixed. The button part 18 ofthe snap button is fixed in the outerthickness 11 of the pouch material so that it projectsoutwardly through the outer covering 15 in position to engage the snap part 17. There is thus formed a purse between the leather i. and the lining in the shoe top with an up-L turned opening which is closed by a flap -secured by a snap button. The pouch being sewed to the outer leather 15 of the shoe top at its upper edge only and this being covered by the flap 16, it is evident that none of the stitching will show on the outside of the shoe top. The purse, therefore, presents a.
neat appearance and is easily accessible.
The operation is evident, it being necessary only to stoop or lift the foot slightly in order to gain access to the purse .which easily may be unbuttoned and money withdrawn or inserted andthe purse snapped shut again.
Manifestly my invention may be embodied in a legging or the likeas well as in a shoe.
While I have shown the preferred construction of my invention as now known to me, it will be understood that various changes ma be made by those skilled in the art wit out departing from thespirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. In combination with a shoe top, legging or the like having an outer coverin `and a lining, a purse comprising a pouch Xed between the outer covering and the lining of the shoe top; a flap adapted to overlap its opening and fasten to the shoe top; an d means for holding said flap in a closed posltion against the side of the shoe top. v
2. In combination with a shoe top, legging or the like having an outer covering and a lining a purse comprising a pouch ixed between the outer covering and the lining of the shoe top, said pouch being sewed to said lining and having its open upper edge coinciding with the upper edge of the shoeI top; a Hap extension integral with said pouch and adapted to overlap the opening of said pouch; and snap button parts fixed into saidflap and said pouch and shoe top covering, said snap button parts Vbeing adapted to coperate in holding said flap in a closed position against the outer side of the shoe top.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
AUGUST r. winscrmvo.
