Description

N. BULAT.
I CARRIER. APPLICATION man NOV. 2. 191a.
Patented Mar. 11,1919.
.1 1K A TTORN E Y Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
Application filed November 2, 1918. Serial No. 260,785.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, NIG'OLAI BULAT, a citizen of Russia, residing at Lawrence, county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for supporting sick or wounded individuals upon the back of carriers and has as its special object the provision of means which may be readily attached to the carrier, the apparatus being provided upon its outer side with devices for securing an invalided person thereto so as to be carried without jar or jolt.
A further object is to provide such devices in a form which can be readily folded into a compact compass for transportation and storage.
his a further object to provide an apparatus which, when in use, does not interfere with the full and free movements of the carriers limbs or impede his action in walking.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combinatlon of arts hereinafter described and shown in t e accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing.
of two substantially similar plates 10 and 11, preferably made of wood and joined together at one of their ends by hinges 12 in such manner that they may be folded closely upon themselves the plates being rectangular and of such length as to extend from a point above the shouldersto theknees of the carrier when extended.
Attached to the front or outer side of both plates are pairs of straps, respectively 14 straps so that a person or object may be held securely upon the outerside of the plates in an obvious manner.
Upon the opposite or inner side of the upper plate 10, adjacent to the edges thereof, are firmly secured metallic bars 18, terminating in arcuate hook-like elements 20 adapted to engage over the shoulders of the carrier in such manner as to be comfortably i worn and to support the weight of the plates.
The plates may be folded along their .median line upon the .hinges 12 when not in similar to the hooks 20, the rods having fixed upon their lower ends collars 31 against which the lower ends of the springs a ut thus interposing flexible elements which absorb the shock and jar of the carriers ste'ps, making it easy for the person carried as well as the carrier.
These hook rods may be turned, when the device is not in use, so as' to engage with the edge of the bottom plate, when in a folded position, thereby holding the apparatus in a compact compass.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a very convenient device has been disclosed whereby woundedor sick people may be.
transported from place to place upon t e back of the carrier in an easy manner, and that the operation of the device is relatively easy, both to the carrier and carried.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In devices of the class described, the combination with a air of rectangular plates hingedly engaged together at one end, of straps secured to each of said plates upon one side thereof, means for adjustably engaging the free ends of said straps, brackets fixed on the opposite side of one of said plates, hooks having stems slidably and rotatably engaged in said brackets, and resilient elements adapted to retract the stems of said hooks.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a pair of rectangular plates hingedly engaged together at one end, of straps secured to each of said plates upon one side thereof, means for adjustably engaging the free ends of said straps, brackets fixed on the opposite side of one of said plates, hooks having stems slidably and totatably engaged in said brackets and compression springs in said brackets adapted to move said hooks normally downward in said brackets, said springs acting to absorb signature.
